Pelosi: Comey 'Just Couldn't Take the Heat from the Republicans'

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Huma Abedin indeed showed a lapse in judgment — in her choice of husband.

Pelosi told CNN today that she’s an admirer of FBI Director James Comey, who announced Friday a probe into new emails connected to Hillary Clinton’s private server, “in terms of what he has done in the past.”

“I think he made a mistake on this. And he clearly has a double standard when it comes to Donald Trump and — or the — or just keep him out of it, just when it came to the hacking by the Russians that the highest confidence of our intelligence community says the Russians did this. I know it privately because of being hacked by the Russians,” Pelosi said. “And he says, well, it’s too close to the elections to talk about that. And yet it’s not too close to the election to talk about the emails that he says may not be significant.”

“I think he’s made a mistake and these jobs, if you’re not in it for a while, you can’t take the heat. And I think he just couldn’t take the heat from the Republicans.”

Pelosi said she’s not calling for Comey to step down, though.

“I’m not going to that point. I think that we have to just get through this election and just see what the casualties are along the way,” she said.

The emails being reviewed by the FBI to ascertain if they contain any classified information were reportedly found on devices of her longtime aide Huma Abedin and her estranged husband, former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.), and were discovered during a separate FBI investigation into Weiner sexting a 15-year-old girl.

Asked if Hillary Clinton exercised bad in having Abedin as a close aide, Pelosi replied that “the relationships that people have is something that I’m not going to comment on.”

“Huma is a lovely person. She has the confidence of Hillary Clinton. They’re friends. I think Huma Abedin used bad judgment in marrying Anthony Weiner, so if you wanted to ask about questions like that,” she added. “But I think that Hillary’s respect for Huma Abedin goes back a long way and their friendship is important.”
