Pakistan is described by some as a “frenemy” of the United States, a country that’s neither a friend nor an enemy but in some ways is both. Some people in Pakistan’s establishment are sort of friendly. Others are not. Some of those who are not are now agitating for charges of conspiracy against the state of Pakistan and high treason to be filed against a doctor there who helped the U.S. track down Osama bin Laden. If he is charged, and especially if he’s convicted, at least it will clarify where we stand with each other.
