I've been to New York City a handful of times in my life, but not in years. The last time was 13 years ago, for a wedding. Before that, I went for a protest, a quick day trip, the 2004 Republican National Convention. It was always a liberal city, and maybe as a conservative, I didn’t feel completely welcome there, but it was New York City, you know? But now, after Tuesday night, something has shifted. The last lingering hope I had for that city was gone in an instant.
When Mamdani was sworn in as mayor, I figured that was it for at least four years, maybe longer. After Tuesday's primaries, I don't think "maybe longer" is even a question anymore. It just feels like going back isn't in my future. New Yorkers had a chance to prove me wrong.
I genuinely hoped the voters of that city would look at what they'd done, recognize the mistake, and course correct. Instead, they doubled down. Mamdani's handpicked candidates ran on the same failed promises of socialism and the ugly hatred of antisemitism, and those have already made the city worse, more dangerous, more expensive, and more dysfunctional. Yet voters rewarded them anyway. Sure, Mamdani has only been in office for six months, but that should have been ample time for them to get the message. Clearly, they haven’t, and they’re not going to.
Jesse Watters laid out on Fox News exactly why that should terrify everyone, not just New Yorkers. "Hips is cooked," Watters said of Hakeem Jeffries. “Schumer, they have no clout. They got rocked on their home turf. So bye-bye." The old guard got steamrolled by the base, and Watters argued that nobody should be naive about where that machine is headed next.
ICYMI: One Question Exposed the Democrats’ Socialism Problem
"You guys run your little power centers in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York," Watters said. "All of a sudden, you guys just populated all the higher offices in those states. And you guys are just going to sit back and do nothing with that power? You're coming for us. You're coming for our money. You're coming for our people. You're coming for our way of life. It's not socialism, guys. This is communism."
He didn't stop there. Watters pointed to the women Mamdani endorsed in down-ballot races. "These three women who Mamdani endorsed weren't even born in New York City, weren't even raised in New York City," he said. "They're carpetbaggers." He warned against treating Mamdani himself as some harmless novelty candidate riding a hot streak. "This guy is trouble," Watters said. "This guy is a Trojan horse."
Watters also flagged comments from New York Attorney General Letitia James (D-N.Y.), who he said admitted these candidates are "crazy," including one who wants to "destroy Western civilization" and another pushing to empty the prisons. "I take that as a threat," Watters said.

This is what New York chose… again. So, yeah, I’m not holding my breath for a course correction now.
