I haven't been to Washington in a few years, but I've visited under presidents from both parties, and the experience always felt the same. The capital belongs to all of us, no matter who sits in the Oval Office. Apparently, that's not how the radical left sees it anymore. The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool just got a multimillion-dollar makeover, and now it's under guard, vandalized, and at the center of a criminal investigation. What exactly are leftists trying to destroy, and why?
The Reflecting Pool was renovated as part of the Trump administration's effort to clean up and beautify our nation's capital, which had fallen into disrepair under Democrat administrations. Left-wing activists have decided that a freshly restored pool sitting in front of one of America's most revered monuments is somehow a target worth destroying to help treat their Trump Derangement Syndrome.
It doesn't stop at the pool. Vandals also took to the grass on the National Mall and carved "86 47" into it, a not-too-subtle reference to assassinating the president. U.S. Park Police are investigating, and the National Guard and Park Police have since stepped up patrols around the reflecting pool after credible threats from leftists vowing to finish the job and destroy the landmark altogether.
President Donald Trump confirmed the damage himself in a Friday Truth Social post, pointing to his administration's broader record of restoring monuments, memorials, statues, and fountains across the district. "We've had some real problems with vandalism at the beautiful reflecting pool," Trump wrote. "Just like three days ago, they destroyed the grass outside of the pool; they've also done everything possible to hurt the inside surface that was just installed."
Let's be honest here: this isn't about policy disagreements. This is Trump Derangement Syndrome. These are leftists who can't stand the idea that Trump might get credit for making their city beautiful again, so they'd rather see it trashed.
U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro isn't playing along. She has vowed to prosecute anyone who vandalizes the Reflecting Pool to the fullest extent of the law, and several people have already been arrested or cited for trying to do so.
"Anyone who is in a position of vandalizing or attempting to vandalize the Reflecting Pool will face the criminal justice system in D.C.," Pirro said. "Look, the president has made it a priority to make D.C. not only safe, but beautiful. And there are several citations that have been handed out to individuals. And these are cases that will be prosecuted to the full extent."
She didn't stop there: "If there are more serious products that are put into the reflecting pool to create more algae or a bigger problem, then we'll consider more serious charges. But make no mistake, making D.C. beautiful is a priority. And if you damage, vandalize, or do anything to impact something like the Reflecting Pool, you can be prosecuted."

It really is sad that leftists have to destroy everything over politics. A reflecting pool shouldn’t be a partisan issue. A clean, working fountain shouldn’t be a partisan issue. Not inscribing death threats on the National Mall grass shouldn’t be a partisan issue. But this is what the radical left has become: a movement that would rather vandalize our nation’s capital than let a Republican president get credit for cleaning it up.
Policy disagreements are one thing. We expect to disagree with Democrats on the issues. But they’ve gone so far off the deep end that they’ll sabotage the reflecting pool or damage national monuments? What is wrong with these people?
