Every four years, we hear people from both parties make their case in part by invoking again and again that this is ”the most important election of our lifetime.” It often rings true, but it’s become so cliché that I usually laugh when I hear it. But, I don’t think it’s hyperbole to say that the 2026 midterms may be the most important of our lifetime. Frankly, I think they will decide the future of the republic.
In a theoretical sense, divided government can be a good thing, but the problem is that when Democrats have any power at all, they don’t merely wield it; they abuse it. And the thing is, they’re not exactly being hush-hush about their plans.
Law professor Jonathan Turley recently pointed out that Democrats and their media allies are laying out what they intend to do if they win big this year: pack the Supreme Court, prosecute leading conservatives, and rewrite the rules of the game to make sure they never lose again.
Again, that isn’t speculation. It’s their plan.
Former CNN correspondent Jim Acosta was unambiguous about this during a recent conversation with left-wing podcaster Jennifer Welch. They treated Supreme Court expansion not as a hypothetical, but as step one. Welch called it the “key” to enacting a sweeping agenda. Acosta didn’t challenge her. Why would he? Joe Biden nearly tried to do just that. Just because that effort didn’t come to pass doesn’t mean the issue was dead and buried.
They talked about putting people on trial, from DOGE staffers to, of course, Donald Trump.
But what does it matter what some left-wing influencers say? Right? Oh, trust me, it matters. This is whom the party panders to, the activist class. The people who want Trump impeached a third and fourth time, who put Trump on trial over bogus accusations, so they could put him in prison and prevent his return to office. Trump may not be able to run for a third term, but make no mistake about it, they’ll want to put him in prison when he leaves office as payback.

And no, this isn’t just fringe chatter. Former Attorney General Eric Holder has already endorsed court packing. Harvard’s Michael Klarman wrote about how Democrats should do it before they make “structural reforms” that a conservative Supreme Court might strike down.
The message couldn’t be clearer. The takeover plan isn’t only about winning elections. It’s about making sure elections no longer matter once they’ve won. Welch put a finer point on it when she said Democrats have to stop listening to “integrity Democrats” and stick with what she called “F*** you Democrats.” Her proposed mission: investigate, prosecute, and destroy opponents without restraint.
It goes without saying that when Democrats tell us what their plans are, we should listen. The influencers and activists who control the party aren’t afraid to say what they really want. Much of their agenda they won’t be able to accomplish without the presidency, but we can’t give them the chance to hold up Trump’s America First agenda either. They want Trump to fail. They want America to fail. And we have to stop them. I don’t think it’s hyperbole at all to say that the coming midterm elections won’t just shape the next Congress. The left openly admits that it wants to tear down the last walls protecting the republic. The question in 2026 is simple: will we let them?
