Last week, President Trump announced a permanent pause on immigration from third-world countries. Naturally, the left immediately jumped in with their favorite accusation: racism. It’s déjà vu all over again with the “Muslim ban” claims. Remember that? Early in his first term Trump signed an executive order blocking entry for 90 days for individuals from Iraq, Iran, Syria, Yemen, Sudan, Libya, and Somalia—and Democrats lost their minds, even though Obama had done the same thing.
Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.), fresh off of calling out our troops to defy their commander-in-chief, hit the Sunday morning shows on Sunday to offer his expert analysis on what Trump really meant. "When he says things like Third World countries, what is he really saying? I think what he's saying is, he doesn't want brown people in our country. And that is disturbing and it's un-American," Kelly said.
It's the same tired playbook Democrats always run when they're trying to shut down any honest conversation about immigration policy.
The reality is that America doesn't have to be the world's sanctuary nation, and Trump's proposal recognizes something Democrats refuse to acknowledge: not all immigration is created equal. Trump stated he would "permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries to allow the US system to fully recover" and "deport any foreign national who is a public charge, security risk, or non-compatible with Western Civilization.” This isn't about skin color, as Kelly and his allies want you to believe. It's about recognizing that importing massive numbers of people from dysfunctional societies has consequences.
A Third World country is defined by low trust, high corruption, and political and cultural dysfunction. These countries are Third World precisely because their political and social cultures undermine the prerequisites for development and prosperity. Why should we be importing these people?
Kelly is gaslighting the public by pretending not to understand what a Third World country is or why importing large numbers of people from those countries creates problems. This is deliberate. Democrats frame everything around race because they're emotionally manipulating the public into supporting policies designed to import new left-wing voters.

The Somali fraud problem in Minnesota offers a perfect case study of what happens when you import dysfunction without proper vetting or assimilation. Federal prosecutors have charged 75 individuals so far in a massive $1 billion fraud scandal that unfolded on Gov. Tim Walz's watch, which is now threatening his political career.
The scheme exploited Minnesota's generous social safety net, with fraudsters creating companies that billed the state for services never delivered. One homelessness program that received $2.6 million in 2021 saw its expenses balloon to $104 million the following year due to rampant fraud. Minnesota Department of Human Services employees representing more than 480 staff members went public, stating that Walz is "100% responsible for massive fraud" and that when they reported the fraudulent activities, "instead of cooperation, we experienced severe retaliation.” They were silenced, reassigned, and instructed to remain quiet because "leadership was reluctant to take action that might negatively impact their public image and did not want to appear discriminatory toward specific communities.”
This is what happens when political correctness trumps common sense. There’s no doubt that Trump is right to hit pause and reassess. The notion that America must accept unlimited immigration from anywhere in the world, regardless of their ability to contribute positively to society, is a recipe for the kind of dysfunction we're seeing in Minnesota and elsewhere. The United States has every right to be selective about who enters the country, and framing that selectivity as racism is nothing more than a cynical attempt to prevent Americans from having an honest debate about their nation's future.
