The Democratic Party Keeps Showing Us They Are Rotten to the Core

Whether it was after the attempted assassination of President Trump or in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s tragic murder, Democrats have repeatedly failed to meet the moment. It’s not enough to offer half-hearted words of condemnation—they refuse to confront the culture of hatred their own rhetoric fuels. Time and again, as left-wing violence spreads like a cancer through our political discourse, Democrat leaders choose silence and calculation over courage and principle. Their inaction makes one thing unmistakably clear: when it comes to condemning violence from within their own ranks, partisan loyalty outweighs the very values they pretend to champion.

As PJ Media previously reported, Jay Jones, the Democratic nominee for attorney general in Virginia, sent text messages to Republican House Delegate Carrie Coyner on August 8, 2022, that were nothing short of appalling. Jones texted a hypothetical scenario involving two bullets and the choice of shooting former Virginia House Speaker Todd Gilbert, Adolf Hitler, or Pol Pot. Jones said he would shoot Gilbert "every time" and that "Gilbert gets two bullets to the head."

Coyner was disturbed enough to push back, telling Jones directly that it bothered her when he talked about hurting people or wishing death on them. She told him it wasn't okay, no matter who they were. But Jones escalated further, telling Coyner he wished Gilbert's wife could watch her own child die in her arms, hoping it would change Gilbert's political views.

This isn't just heated political rhetoric or venting frustration. Jones crossed a line that should be non-negotiable in American politics by wishing death and tragedy on a political opponent and his children simply because of their political positions.

Jones has acknowledged the texts, expressing regret and saying that "violent rhetoric has no place in our politics." He even admitted the words made him "sick to my stomach" and that he was "embarrassed, ashamed, and sorry." But here's the thing: that's not really an apology. That's a shameful attempt at damage control.

How can we tell? In the same breath, Jones attacked his Republican opponent, current Attorney General Jason Miyares, for publicizing the issue through "Trump-controlled media organizations" and accused the media of political smears.

That is not a man who is sorry about what he said. That's a man who is sorry he got caught.

Jones, naturally, is continuing his campaign, though Republican leaders have called on him to drop out, including Miyares, gubernatorial candidate Winsome Earle-Sears, and President Donald Trump and Vice President Vance.

But this is where Democratic “principles” slam headfirst into reality: not a single Virginia Democrat has called on Jones to withdraw from the race. Some Virginia Democrats have condemned the language, but they’re still standing behind him. Senator Mark Warner called the comments "appalling" and "inconsistent with the person I've known." Abigail Spanberger, the Democrat nominee for governor, described the texts as "disgusting" and said she made clear to Jones that he must fully take responsibility for his words, adding that she will "always condemn violent language in our politics." But she didn’t disavow him.

Not one Democrat on Capitol Hill has called on him to drop out, either. These are the same people who demand Republican resignations over every contrived controversy imaginable, yet they’re perfectly comfortable standing by a man who publicly fantasized about killing his political opponent—and his opponent’s children.

The hypocrisy couldn’t be clearer. Democrats know that forcing Jones out would jeopardize a key statewide race they can’t afford to lose, so, as usual, politics trumps principle. Party loyalty and raw ambition outweigh their endless sermons about “civility” and “rejecting political violence.” The Democratic Party loves to lecture the rest of America about “decency,” “unity,” and “democracy,” yet when one of their own openly fantasizes about murdering a political rival—and his family—they look the other way. Moral outrage vanishes if it’s politically inconvenient for them. This isn’t an isolated incident; it’s a stark reflection of what the modern Democratic Party has become: a movement so consumed by power that it can no longer distinguish right from wrong, and so willing to sacrifice principle for political expediency that it has shown the country exactly who they really are.

And they’re rotten to the core.
