I've been thinking a lot about how the modern left got so radical that it now argues against basic human nature. Somewhere along the way, tolerance stopped meaning "live and let live" and started meaning "approve of everything we say, no matter how insane, or get branded a bigot." That got me thinking about a South Park episode that's nearly 24 years old now — almost a quarter century. It's hard to believe how precisely it predicted the radical, woke Left we're dealing with today.
The episode is called "The Death Camp of Tolerance." It's the 14th episode of season six, and it originally aired on Nov. 20, 2002, if you want to look it up. I don’t think any clips would be appropriate to post here.
In the episode, Mr. Garrison, newly hired as the fourth-grade teacher at South Park Elementary, hatches a plan to get himself fired. His strategy is being overtly and explicitly homosexual in front of his students so he can sue the school district and pocket $25 million in damages.
The plan backfires spectacularly.
The rest of the faculty and the kids' parents are so desperate to appear tolerant that they won't lift a finger to stop him, no matter how inappropriate his behavior gets. The only people to speak up about it are the kids. For the crime of refusing to tolerate Garrison's outrageous conduct, which no decent person would approve of, they get shipped off to a Nazi-style "tolerance camp."

The episode builds up to Garrison receiving the "Courageous Teacher Award" for overcoming adversity, all while he's still trying desperately to get canned with blatantly inappropriate behavior in front of the kids. At the ceremony, he goes full spectacle. I’m not going to describe what he does, but when it happens, the parents finally see what their kids were trying to tell them all along, and they're horrified. But they still can't bring themselves to say a word against it, because criticizing Garrison means risking the label "intolerant."
That's when Garrison finally snaps.
As the crowd keeps calling him courageous, he turns on them. "Tolerating something does not mean that you have to like it," he says. He goes further, arguing that tolerating his homosexuality never meant the school had to accept him doing something obviously inappropriate in front of his students. For that outburst, he’s shipped off to the camp himself, punished for being intolerant of his own behavior.
Sound familiar? In 2023, Hillary Clinton called for the "formal deprogramming" of Trump supporters.

This is modern leftists in a nutshell. They tolerate genuinely harmful ideas because they always need to prove how tolerant they are. They are terrified of being called a bigot. That fear is exactly why they defend pornographic material in school libraries, why Drag Queen Happy Hours get treated as family entertainment, and why butchering children's bodies gets rebranded as compassion.
South Park called it 24 years ago. Creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone made it funny in 2002, but in 2026, it’s terrifyingly accurate.
