We’ve seen this play out so many times before. Mainstream media outlets are are shielding Democrats from being exposed for their true agenda, this time over the party’s push to provide taxpayer-funded healthcare to illegal immigrants.
Rather than report the facts, reporters and pundits often spin or outright deny what is happening, protecting Democrats from accountability. Attempts to expose the truth are met with dismissal or misdirection.
As we’ve pointed out here at PJ Media plenty of times, there’s no doubt Democrats shut down the government because they want to restore giving illegal immigrants taxpayer-funded health care.
It’s a fact. Republicans like House Speaker Mike Johnson have done multiple media hits explaining how, despite Democrat denials, this very much is the case, yet the mainstream media keeps pushing the Democrat talking points. It’s not like it’s a secret that Democrats want this. During the 2020 Democratic presidential primary, every candidate publicly pledged to provide government healthcare to illegal immigrants. The media’s unwillingness to report this truth reveals a pattern: protecting the Democratic Party from accountability takes priority over informing the public.
On Thursday, House Republican Leaders held a press conference about the Schumer Shutdown, which CNN covered live…
…until they wanted to cover up the facts.
“The House Republicans received our largest popular vote total in the history of this institution,” said Speaker Johnson, adding that they “passed the One Big Beautiful Bill, the working families tax cut, and we fulfilled all the promises that we made.” Johnson emphasized that part of that bill included health provisions and accused Democrats of trying to restore taxpayer-funded benefits for illegal immigrants: “Why are we saying that they want to return and restore taxpayer-funded benefits to illegal aliens? Because that’s exactly what they did. When they rejected the clean C.R. that we sent over, the Senate filed — the Senate Democrats, Chuck Schumer —”
And that’s when CNN cut away from Johnson — just as he was about to elaborate on how Democrats plan to fund healthcare for illegal immigrants.
But anchor Pamela Brown didn’t just cut away from Johnson’s press conference; she covered for the Democrats by pushing their talking points. “All right. You're listening here to Speaker Johnson. He's trying to frame the shutdown as a Democratic shutdown. He also falsely claimed the Democrats want to give healthcare, extend healthcare to illegal immigrants. That is not true. Illegal immigrants are not eligible for federal healthcare programs.”

What Brown didn’t mention is that while it’s technically “illegal” for non-citizens to receive taxpayer-funded healthcare, Democrats have a workaround. Fourteen states already provide coverage to illegal immigrants, and federal dollars cover 50–75% of that cost, so federal tax money is indeed still funding it. The One Big Beautiful Bill closed that loophole, yet every Democratic government funding bill has included measures to reopen it.
