For years, the left demanded total submission to its narratives. Dissent was dangerous, the “experts” were infallible, and the science was always “settled.” But the moment they set their sights on children, everything began to unravel.
Nowhere is the shift more apparent than in the collapse of the so-called “gender-affirming care” movement. Backed by activists, media, and medical elites, this crusade pushed puberty blockers, hormones, and irreversible surgeries on kids—all under the guise of compassion and science. Questioning it? That made you a bigot.
But the illusion is cracking. Even some on the left are now admitting what critics have said all along: the evidence is flimsy, the risks are devastating, and the entire movement rests on ideological quicksand.
A liberal MIT professor revealed in a Washington Post op-ed that a recent HHS review—authored mainly by left-leaning experts—found that the evidence supporting “gender-affirming” procedures for minors is extremely weak. Alex Byrne, who contributed to the review, emphasized that it wasn’t driven by ideology but by a clear-eyed look at the science, and that even fellow liberals are now acknowledging the lack of solid evidence behind these treatments.
“The review was prompted by an executive order signed by President Donald Trump at the end of January, which set for us a May 1 deadline,” Byrne wrote. “The order’s inflammatory and tendentious language understandably roused suspicions among liberals. But the review wasn’t written by zealots busily grinding axes. In fact, liberals were in the majority. Some of us were paranoid that the White House would try to control the content of the review or even alter it pre-publication; that worry proved unfounded.”
Byrne also wrote that after thoroughly reviewing the evidence, he and his mostly liberal co-authors concluded that child sex changes are neither scientifically nor ethically justified.

“The review adds to the work of Hilary Cass, a respected British pediatrician, who concluded in a report commissioned by health authorities in Britain that this ‘is an area of remarkably weak evidence,'” Byrne wrote. “Cass was chosen because she is not a gender clinician and can thus assess the field impartially. Subsequently, Britain’s (left-wing) Labour government banned puberty blockers for the treatment of gender dysphoria outside clinical trials indefinitely. The government’s health secretary is considering similar restrictions on cross-sex hormones for patients under 18.”
At the heart of this is a simple, damning truth: these are children. Minors who can’t buy alcohol, vote, or get a tattoo—yet have been encouraged to make permanent decisions about their bodies they cannot begin to comprehend. The growing wave of detransitioners speaks volumes, as do the risks: infertility, cognitive damage, cardiovascular disease, painful side effects, various cancers, psychiatric disorders, and irreversible regret.
Still, the pressure campaign rages on. Whistleblowing doctors are blacklisted. Concerned parents are smeared. Lawmakers who fight to protect children are painted as villains. But the narrative is collapsing. More Americans are waking up to the truth: this was never about health—it was about control, politics, and profit. The science was never there. The left knew it, and they counted on silence. But targeting children was their fatal mistake. They crossed a line that can’t be uncrossed—and now the reckoning is coming.
