The liberal media’s desperation to undercut Donald Trump’s economic success has hit a new low. With no real scandals to hang their hats on, they’ve resorted to inventing narratives out of thin air — ones that collapse the moment they’re exposed to daylight. Wall Street analysts, presumably still bitter about Trump's successful presidency, claim that Trump has been chickening out on his tariff threats. But like most left-wing narratives, this one crumbles when confronted with facts.
At a press conference on Wednesday, a reporter pressed President Trump for his reaction to reports that Wall Street analysts had coined a new phrase: the “TACO trade.”
“They’re saying Trump Always Chickens Out on your tariff threats, and that’s why markets are higher this week,” the reporter said. “What’s your response to that?”
President Trump forcefully dismantled this false narrative during today's press conference, demonstrating why his negotiation tactics have consistently delivered results for America. When confronted with this accusation, Trump's response was characteristically direct and backed by concrete achievements.
“Oh, isn’t that nice?” Trump said. “Chicken out. I’ve never heard that. You mean because I reduced China from 145% — that I set — down to 100, and then down to another number? And I said, ‘You have to open up your whole country.’ And because, uh, I — I gave the European Union a 50% […] tariff, and they called up and they said, ‘Please, let’s meet right now. Please, let’s meet right now.’ And I said, ‘Okay, I’ll give you till July 9th.’”
Trump then asked, “You call that chickening out?”
He then laid out the impressive economic gains under his leadership. "We have $14 trillion now invested, committed to investing when Biden didn't have practically anything."
The president's strategic approach to tariffs has always been about securing better deals for America, not backing down. This was evident in his handling of China, where he masterfully employed escalating pressure to force negotiations.
As Trump explained, "It's called negotiation. You set a number […] You know, if I set a number at a ridiculous high number and I go down a little bit, they want me to hold that number, 145% tariff."

The results speak for themselves. Under Trump's leadership, America has reclaimed its position as the world's economic powerhouse. As he noted during the press conference, even foreign leaders acknowledge this reality: "I went to Saudi Arabia. The king told me, he said, 'You got the hottest co—' we have the hottest country in the world right now."
This success stands in stark contrast to the economic malaise of the previous administration. "Six months ago, this country was stone-cold dead," Trump reminded reporters. "We had a country — people didn't think it was gonna survive."
Trump's approach to the European Union further demonstrates his effective use of tariffs as a negotiating tool. After he implemented a 50% tariff, European leaders quickly changed their tune. "They called up and they said, 'Please, let's meet right now," Trump related. "Please, let's meet right now.'" The result? A July 9 meeting that could lead to more favorable trade terms for American workers.
Trump's tariff strategy isn't about "chickening out"; it's about leveraging America's economic might to secure better deals. The liberal media can coin all the cute acronyms it wants, but it can't change the fact that Trump's approach continues to deliver results for the American people.
If this is what the left calls "chickening out," perhaps they should spend less time creating stupid acronyms and more time studying how real negotiation works. Trump's record speaks for itself: America is back on top, and no amount of media spin can change that reality.
