The Democrat Party’s elite has completely lost touch with reality, and nothing proves it more than its habit of siding with the most radical fringe on every major issue. Whether it’s pushing transgender procedures for minors, embracing open borders, or championing soft-on-crime policies, Democrats have staked out positions that are wildly out of step with mainstream America. Even now, as they are struggling to strategize how to regain power, they appear unwilling to moderate their radicalism.
Their latest folly is their stubborn opposition to extending Donald Trump's tax cuts. Once again, they're about to learn a painful lesson about what happens when you ignore what the American people actually want.
A new poll from Public Opinion Strategies shows overwhelming support for extending President Trump’s 2017 tax cuts, with 84% of likely voters saying they would keep the current tax rates rather than raise them. That includes 95% of Republicans, 81% of independents, and even 74% of Democrats, which underscores broad, bipartisan backing as Congress works to make the cuts permanent before they expire at year’s end.
“Likely senior voters, moderates and suburbanites — key demographics for next year’s midterms — were all in favor of extending the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act by margins of more than 60% each,” reports the New York Post. “At the same time, 80% of potential voters said it was not ideal to increase taxes — up four percentage points from September — and a mere 3% said it was a good time for an increase, with 17% saying they were indifferent.”
So even Democrat voters want to keep Trump's tax cuts. But the Democrat leadership, safely ensconced in its swamp bubble, is ready to let them expire, which would trigger the largest tax increase in American history.
This isn't the first time the Democrats have been catastrophically wrong about Trump's economic policies. Back in 2017, they predicted "Armageddon" when the tax cuts passed. Instead, every income group saw relief, the economy boomed, unemployment hit record lows, and federal revenues increased. But facts don't penetrate the bubble.
Naturally, none of this matters to Democrats, who are so consumed by their Trump Derangement Syndrome that they'd rather see American families suffer than admit that Trump did something right. And suffer they will; the poll shows that roughly three-quarters of voters believe that not extending the tax cuts would hurt middle-class families, small business owners, and consumers the most.

The Democrats' bubble mentality is so severe that they're willing to die on this hill even when their own voters disagree with them. Support for extending the tax cuts crosses every demographic line, with overwhelming majorities of Republicans, independents, and, yes, even Democrats supporting extension. Seniors, moderates, and suburbanites — key voting blocs — all strongly favor keeping the cuts in place.
After years of Biden-era inflation and ongoing economic uncertainty, the last thing American families and businesses need is a massive tax hike. But Democrats, safely insulated from the economic realities facing average Americans, seem determined to make exactly that happen.
This is becoming a pattern with Democrats, from supporting illegal immigrants over American citizens to backing biological males in women's sports, and now supporting the largest tax hike in history. They keep choosing the wrong side of 80-20 issues because they can't see beyond their bubble.
Bubbles eventually burst. And when this one does, it's going to be spectacular. The choice couldn't be clearer: either extend the tax cuts and keep America's economy strong, or let them expire and punish American families and businesses. The Democrats have made their choice. In 2026, voters will make theirs.
