I knew it. You knew it. We all knew it. Joe Biden was always going to pardon his son, Hunter Biden. It was inevitable. It was just a question of when. Honestly, I’m surprised he didn’t wait until January. On Sunday, mere weeks left in his presidency, Joe Biden officially pardoned Hunter, proving his denials were just more hollow rhetoric.
"Today, I signed a pardon for my son Hunter," Biden said in a statement. "From the day I took office, I said I would not interfere with the Justice Department’s decision-making, and I kept my word even as I have watched my son being selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted."
"Without aggravating factors like use in a crime, multiple purchases, or buying a weapon as a straw purchaser, people are almost never brought to trial on felony charges solely for how they filled out a gun form," he continued. "Those who were late paying their taxes because of serious addictions, but paid them back subsequently with interest and penalties, are typically given non-criminal resolutions. It is clear that Hunter was treated differently."
Flashback: Of Course, Joe Biden Will Pardon Hunter
"The charges in his cases came about only after several of my political opponents in Congress instigated them to attack me and oppose my election," Biden continued. "Then, a carefully negotiated plea deal, agreed to by the Department of Justice, unraveled in the court room – with a number of my political opponents in Congress taking credit for bringing political pressure on the process." Had the plea deal held, it would have been a fair, reasonable resolution of Hunter’s cases.
This is hardly the first time Joe Biden has made such claims, yet he’s continually promised not to pardon Hunter or give him some other form of clemency. This turn of events is nothing short of a slap in the face to Americans who still believe in equal justice under the law. From the moment Hunter Biden’s shady business dealings came under scrutiny, the Biden White House’s strategy has been one of denial, obfuscation, and outright lies. The president repeatedly shielded his son from accountability, and now, with this pardon, he’s cemented his legacy as a protector of privilege for the politically connected.
Let’s be honest, Hunter Biden’s legal troubles have been building for years, with accusations including drug-related crimes, tax evasion and illegally possessing a firearm, and, of course, allegations of selling access to his father. The evidence of wrongdoing has been overwhelming. Yet, the Justice Department slow-walked investigations, let statutes of limitations expire, and coordinated with Hunter’s defense team in ways that most people in a similar position could only dream of.
And what about that plea deal that Joe Biden spoke of? Hunter’s legal team reportedly leveraged Joe Biden’s influence to orchestrate the deal with DOJ prosecutors who, according to reports, treated him like an old friend in the courtroom. The arrangement fell apart when Judge Maryellen Noreika rejected the plea deal as absurd and unconstitutional.
Biden’s decision to pardon Hunter isn’t just an act of nepotism—it’s an outright admission that he was always lying when he claimed (repeatedly) he wouldn’t pardon Hunter or give him any form of clemency. To that point, this is the same Joe Biden who has claimed he wasn’t involved in Hunter’s business dealings, despite mounting evidence to the contrary.
Clearly, his word as a Biden doesn’t mean a damn thing, and it's obvious he's been lying about a lot of things relating to his son. That's what make this pardon so much worse.
