Has the GOP Finally Grown a Backbone After the Sham Trial Verdict?

In the wake of the guilty verdicts in the sham trial against Donald Trump, it appears that Senate Republicans have finally realized that they can't keep playing nice when the Democrats are doing everything in their power to destroy this country and anyone who gets in their way.

On Friday, ten Republican senators signed a letter stating their refusal to cooperate with Democrats on various business matters.

"Strongly worded statements are not enough.," Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) said in a post on X/Twitter. "Those who turned our judicial system into a political cudgel must be held accountable. We are no longer cooperating with any Democrat legislative priorities or nominations, and we invite all concerned Senators to join our stand."

Here's the letter in full.

The White House has made a mockery of the rule of law and fundamentally altered our politics in un-American ways. As a Senate Republican conference, we are unwilling to aid and abet this White House in its project to tear this country apart. To that end, we will not 1) allow any increase to non-security related funding for this administration, or any appropriations bill which funds partisan lawfare; 2) vote to confirm this administration's political and judicial appointees; and 3) allow expedited consideration and passage of Democrat legislation or authorities that are not directly related to the safety of the American people.

In addition to Sen. Lee, Sens. JD Vance (R-Ohio), Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), Eric Schmitt (R-Mont), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn), Rick Scott (R-Fla) Roger Marshall (R-Kans.), and Marco Rubio (R-FL) signed on as well, and Sens. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) and Ron Johnson (R-Wisc.) have since signed on to the letter as well.  Yet, that's still not enough. There are 39 more Republican senators who need to sign onto it, and Lee wants to get them all.

Now, of course, until we see some action on this, the letter is just another "strongly worded statement." So the question is: do they really mean it this time? Have Republicans finally figured out that playing nice with Democrats is a losing strategy because there is literally no low they won't stoop to? Democrats play by their own set of rules; for whatever reason, the GOP has let them get away with it.

I hope they mean it, but what happened to the outrage over the unprecedented at Mar-a-Lago? Why did House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) wait until after the verdict to demand Bragg testify before Congress  Why didn't this happen when Bragg first indicted Trump by taking a misdemeanor charge that was out of the statute of limitations and twisting the law to turn it into a felony and stacking the charge 34 times?

If Republicans are finally realizing they have to play hardball, I'm all for it, but what have they been waiting for? Our republic is hanging by a thread, and Repubiicans have been all talk for too long.
