I Challenge Conservative Media to Ditch ‘Preferred Pronouns'

Imagine my surprise when I came across a post on X/Twitter about Dylan Mulvaney from the New York Post, in which the conservative-leaning newspaper, referred to him with feminine pronouns.

"Dylan Mulvaney says she tried to ‘fix’ the Bud Light boycott by pitching [an] ad where a cowboy and trans person share a beer,” the post read.

The post prompted a slew of replies calling on the paper to correct the post’s use of Mulvaney’s preferred pronouns instead of acknowledging his biological sex.

The premise of the article is almost comical, and I didn’t even bother reading it, save for a quick perusal to confirm that business reporter Shannon Thaler repeatedly referred to Mulvaney with feminine pronouns, even though Mulvaney is a man.

I’ve never been shy about my opposition to transgenderism and my refusal to legitimize it by referring to transgender-identifying people by their “preferred pronouns.” As far as I’m concerned, even straight people who include their pronouns in their social media profiles or email signatures don’t deserve to be taken seriously.

With leftists dominating the media, it is up to conservative media to unite against the use of preferred pronouns and only refer to people by their biological sex. Referring to individuals based on biological sex is not just a matter of language but a reaffirmation of objective reality. In a world increasingly grappling with blurred boundaries, conservative media must position itself as a beacon of truth that values objective reality, not subjective reinterpretation of norms.

A couple of years ago, I detailed how various conservative outlets were handling the issue of preferred pronouns and found mixed results. Some would use female pronouns for biological males; others would not. Some tried to avoid using pronouns altogether, including the Daily Wire, which I found quite odd.

This week, The Daily Wire reported on Lady Gaga promoting Mulvaney in honor of International Women’s Day, calling Mulvaney "a man who identifies as a transgender woman” yet the article avoids using pronouns in reference to Mulvaney as much as possible — only once when noting that Mulvaney "became famous after creating the TikTok series 'Days of Girlhood' to document his ‘transition' from a man to a woman."

I will never dance around the issue of preferred pronouns. I’ve written about trans-identifying people and I call them who they really are.

Bruce “Caitlyn” Jenner is a man. Richard “Rachel” Levine is a man. Will “Lia” Thomas is a man. Ellen “Eliot” Page is a woman. I don’t care how any of them have mutilated their bodies. I’m not pointing this out to be mean or disrespectful, but because facts matter, and I won’t be bullied into “affirming” someone else’s delusion.

Consumers of conservative media should know that they can count on us to not cave to leftist narratives — particularly ones as absurd as the belief that people can be born in the wrong body and that we should "affirm" those who identify as the opposite sex. If conservative media caves to this nonsense, we lose. If conservative media tries to avoid it, we lose. We have to stand firm against this evil, subversive movement.
