Is This the Worst Precedent Joe Biden Has Set?

Lacking anything substantive to run on, Democrats have chosen to portray themselves as champions of "our democracy." It's a terrible joke because their actions prove how they view the Constitution, the rule of law, and established precedents as obstacles in their ever-continuing quest for power.

Under Barack Obama, we saw presidential powers expand because Democrats were too blinded by their desire to impose their agenda to care about the abuse of executive power, whether it was blatantly unconstitutional executive action or the weaponization extended to key institutions like the Justice Department and the Internal Revenue Service.

Democrats in Congress weaponized the filibuster, which they claimed was an important tool to protect the rights of the minority party, only to abolish it once Republicans were in the minority because they started to use it the way Democrats had. Democrats went on to weaponize committee assignments, impeachment, and even ballot access.

The very essence of a nation of laws is under attack from the political left, as leftists believe that rules and laws they don't like simply don't apply to them. And perhaps one of the worst examples is Joe Biden's defiance of the Supreme Court.

In 2022, Biden infamously implemented student loan debt forgiveness via executive pen, and the Supreme Court rightfully blocked it. Ever since, he has sought any possible workaround to defy the court. Last week, he even had the audacity to brag about it.

"Early in my term, I announced a major plan to provide millions of working families with debt relief for their college student debt," Biden said. "Tens of millions of people in debt were literally about to be canceled in debts. But my MAGA Republican friends in the Congress, elected officials and special interests stepped in and sued us. And the Supreme Court blocked it. But that didn’t stop me."

Just last week, he unilaterally canceled $1.2 billion in student debt.

During the Obama years, we sat and watched as he repeatedly defied the law of the land, insisting that if Congress didn't do what he wanted, he had "a pen and a phone," entitling him to do whatever he wanted. Obama essentially declared that checks and balances didn't apply to him. He essentially declared himself a dictator.

Imagine for just one second if any Republican president similarly defied the Supreme Court like this.

The actions of the Supreme Court have always been controversial. Whether it was the court's ruling in Bush v. Gore, Citizens United v. FEC, Obergefell v. Hodges, Biden v. Nebraska, or Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, there's always a side that isn't happy, but all parties accepted the rulings as the final say.

We're all afforded the right to criticize the outcomes we don't like, but imagine if, for example, states that opposed same-sex marriage simply ignored the Supreme Court's ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges and found a workaround to not legalize same-sex marriage. Biden essentially did just that by defying the Supreme Court's ruling in Biden v. Nebraska.

Biden's defiance of the Supreme Court has established a new precedent where the executive branch can ignore rulings, and the president can simply assert the power to do something for which he has no constitutional authority.
