Is the Media About to Throw Biden Under the Bus to Save the Dems in 2024?

For the longest time, the mainstream has been more than willing to come to Joe Biden’s defense. Polls have been showing that voters on both sides of the aisle think he’s too old, frail, and mentally unfit to be president. Naturally, the mainstream media has been more than willing to publish stories to alter the public’s perception of reality. The latest example is an Axios story published this week insisting that Biden’s aides think he is "extraordinarily energetic for his age."

Another issue on which the media has been desperately defending Joe Biden is his family corruption. We’ve all heard the reports and read the headlines insisting that there is no evidence of Joe Biden being corrupt. The only thing he’s guilty of, we’re told, is that he loves his son.

But as polls show the public still isn’t buying the messaging, The Washington Post appears to have taken a different strategy. This week, the paper published a rather extensive exposé into the Biden family's corruption, starting with the recent revelation that Joe Biden’s brother had been caught on tape in an FBI bribery sting. It’s as if, all of a sudden, they have a newfound interest in the Biden crime family.

The report was so out of character for the paper that Andrew McCarthy was amazed the Post published the story.

"Sunday’s eye-popping 4,000-word Washington Post report on Biden corruption ties is, to my mind, more indication that a serious move is under way within the top ranks of the Democratic Party establishment to nudge President Joe Biden into bowing out of the 2024 presidential race,” McCarthy mused in an article at National Review.

The timing of the Post’s report is thus intriguing. For the president, it will sting for several reasons. First, it’s the Post, a pillar of the Democratic administration’s Praetorian Guard — this is not just more brickbats hurled by House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R., Ky.) and the other Republicans investigating Biden-family influence-peddling. Second, the subject matter of the report goes back to the start of Joe Biden’s Senate career in the early Seventies (yes, the family business goes back decades), meaning the Post has intentionally dredged up unseemly details about Biden’s past that have been vaguely known for decades but that Biden must have figured were long forgotten. Third, the length of the report shows that the Post had to have spent weeks reporting its story; the paper could have dropped this report at any time, but it chose to do so now, when the president and his campaign are reeling.

That a liberal paper would cover this with such detail is quite shocking. When you add to the mix the stories about Biden’s poor numbers — which we’ve covered extensively at PJ Media — one can’t help but wonder if the media is making it clear that they actually think Joe Biden needs to get out of the race. Remember how Biden’s classified documents scandal broke shortly after reports suggested he was on the verge of announcing his 2024 presidential campaign?

Few people expected Biden to serve as long as he has, let alone run again. Heck, the media was openly speculating who would top the ticket in 2024 if Joe Biden wasn’t running. Now that his presence in the race has become an undeniable liability, it might just be that they’re not-so-subtly telling Biden that he’s damaged goods and needs to get out before it’s too late.
