FLASHBACK: Governor Cuomo Told Conservatives They Weren’t Welcome in New York

While it appears that the faux outrage regarding Trump telling four left-wing congresswomen to “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime-infested places from which they came” is starting to die down, it’s still worth pointing out just how hypocritical the left is. In recent days, a state legislator from Georgia literally lied about being told to “got back to where she came from” in order to get her fifteen minutes of fame, and Twitchy uncovered the once viral hashtag #DeportMelania being used by Democrats and the media.

Of course, the hypocrisy of the left runs deeper than those examples. In 2014, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo infamously declared that conservatives weren’t welcome in his state.

Gov. Cuomo has a message for conservative Republicans — you don’t belong in New York.

Cuomo said Friday that members of the GOP with “extreme” views are creating an identity crisis for their party and represent a bigger worry than Democrats such as himself.

“Their problem isn’t me and the Democrats; their problem is themselves,” the governor said on Albany’s The Capitol Pressroom radio show.

“Who are they? Right to life, pro-assault weapons, anti-gay — if that’s who they are, they have no place in the state of New York because that’s not who New Yorkers are.”

As a conservative resident of New York State, my own governor was telling me I have no business being here… that anyone who opposes abortion, and believes in the First and Second Amendments have no place in the Empire State. By any standard, Cuomo’s comments were the epitome of bigotry, not Trump’s.

Cuomo wasn’t the only governor to suggest that people of a certain political persuasion didn’t belong in their state. In 2011, then-Governor Jerry Brown told California conservatives to leave the state if they don’t like the far-left policies coming out of Sacramento.

What Democrats considered a bigoted statement by Trump is actually a sentiment shared by many Democrats. Of course, the truth is many conservatives have taken their advice. Both California and New York State are losing population. California has been seeing people move to the red state of Texas, and New York has seen people leaving for Florida, Texas, and the northwest.

Gee, I wonder why.
