The confirmation hearings of Brett Kavanaugh for the United States Supreme Court seem like just a bad memory now. Senate Democrats shamefully exploited Christine Blasey Ford in an effort to thwart Kavanaugh’s nomination and destroy an innocent man’s life. Had they succeeded, it would have been the #MeToo Movement’s crowning achievement. But her lack of credibility, the lack of corroboration (even from alleged witnesses she named), the exculpatory evidence provided by Kavanaugh, and the problems with her testimony made it clear to any reasonable person that whatever might have happened to her as a teenager, Brett Kavanaugh was not in any way involved. Despite this, the left has tried hard to maintain the illusion that Kavanaugh is a predator and Christine Blasey Ford was his victim.
TIME magazine continues to elevate Ford by including her in their list of the 100 most influential people of 2019. Ford is listed in the “icons” category alongside Taylor Swift, Michelle Obama, Lady Gaga, Spike Lee, and others. Kamala Harris, the Democrat Senator from California who used the Kavanaugh hearings as a springboard for launching her eventual campaign for president, wrote this about Ford for TIME:
Her story, spoken while holding back tears, shook Washington and the country. Her courage, in the face of those who wished to silence her, galvanized Americans. And her unfathomable sacrifice, out of a sense of civic duty, shined a spotlight on the way we treat survivors of sexual violence.
Christine Blasey Ford’s ambition wasn’t to become a household name or make it onto this list. She had a good life and a successful career—and risked everything to send a warning in a moment of grave consequence.
At her core, she is a teacher. And through her courage, she forced the country to reckon with an issue that has too often been ignored and kept in the dark.
The only issue Ford has forced me to reckon with is the risk of false accusations of sexual assault. I don’t believe nothing happened to Ford, but based on the available evidence, it’s quite clear that Brett Kavanaugh never assaulted her, and Senate Democrats were so desperate to stall and ultimately prevent Kavanaugh’s confirmation that they were willing to force Ford into the spotlight despite her wishes not to be. She wasn’t a victim of Brett Kavanaugh, but a victim of Senate Democrats. Yet, as Ford has disappeared from the public eye, there are clearly efforts by the left to keep her and her bogus story alive.
Kamala Harris never mentioned Brett Kavanaugh or the specific circumstances that put her story on the front pages of newspapers across the country, but she deliberately perpetuated various myths to maintain the illusion that Christine Blasey Ford is a hero, including the insinuation that the GOP was trying to silence her, despite their going to extreme lengths to accommodate her and allow her to testify, even offering to go out to California because of her alleged fear of flying (which turned out to be a complete fabrication) and repeatedly extending deadlines for a response to come in and testify.
Christine Blasey Ford deserves to return to obscurity and it’s about time the left let her. Putting her on TIME magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people by perpetuating the myth that Brett Kavanaugh assaulted her can only be for nefarious purposes. There are still calls within the left to find a way to remove Kavanaugh from the bench. In many ways, Ford’s inclusion on the TIME list is more proof that the fight over Kavanaugh’s confirmation is far from over.
