Eight Memorable Things I Saw at the NRA 2015 Convention

There were many items of note and interesting happenings at the NRA annual convention. After spending the weekend in Nashville, I selected eight of the most memorable things from the convention (that I could safely reprint here) to share with PJ readers.

8. We were all told by the New York Times that there would be no guns allowed at the NRA convention. Charles Cooke wrote, “This is completely and utterly wrong. In fact, anyone with a permit valid in Tennessee can come armed with guns that actually shoot.”

Here’s a picture of my friend and Breitbart writer A.W.R. Hawkins showing me what he had in his backpack … and it wasn’t a copy of the New York Times.

7. Moms Demand Attendance. Moms Demand Action showed up to “protest” outside the NRA convention. Although promises of 400 angry gun-grabbing ladies were made, here’s the picture so you can make your own decision. Photo from Bob Owens.

6. Nashville has numerous stores close to the convention center that sell boots, but you could also buy some boots while in the NRA exhibit hall. I found this sign displayed at one of the booths rather amusing.

5. Desert Eagle .50 cal. in various “colors.” If you are a .50 cal. enthusiast looking for a Desert Eagle with something special, fear not: Cheetah printer and a shiny gold zebra color are available for you.

4. Gun bags that look like Pepto-Bismol was spilled all over them.  The gun industry is pretty hip to the fact that women are buying and shooting guns more than ever. But their way of marketing to women leaves something to be desired: pink guns, pink camo, and pink gun bags were everywhere. I’d rather see guns with smaller grips or shorter stocks designed for women.

3. The Crazy Quail Live Bird Shooting Simulator. This is a target throwing machine with some amazing features. It’s portable and can attach to your ATV; it can throw clays with 360 degree of rotation, including 40 degrees of vertical, and 60 degrees of horizontal tilt. You can control the machine with your iPhone from a distance of a 1/2 mile away. Pretty neat!

2. The NRA has a program for your pets. “NRA for Pets” is a new program that provides certain endorsed products for sale to the membership. You can even buy gear for your pet so they can sport the NRA logo along side you.

1. The Taurus Curve. Taurus has a new firearm called the Curve and it looks really… different. Taurus describes the gun: “The world’s first and only curved firearm engineered to fit the unique contours of your body, Taurus Curve™ is one ultra-comfortable, ultra-reliable personal defense handgun.” It comes with or without sights.

I expect this gun to sell really well, but I won’t be one of the buyers. I didn’t think it fit my hand any better than a regular Taurus or any other gun.

Here is the front view, where you can see the sights.

All in all I had a fantastic time. This was my first NRA convention. I usually go to the SHOT show since I am a sport shooter, but the NRA event was great. According Cam Edwards, attendance was the second highest level of attendance with 78.8K. Next year will be in Louisville, KY so mark your calendars.
