For some people, getting arrested for possessing firearms (due to a criminal record) would not necessarily be news. It would just amount to a pretty bad day and a boat-load of legal issues. But for one South Carolina man, such an arrest is certainly newsworthy — but only because the circumstances are pretty darned stupid.
24-year-old Michael Vines crashed his Toyota into a power pole over the weekend. Greenville police charged him “with driving under a suspended license, driving too fast for conditions and unlawful carrying of a firearm,” according to WYFF Channel 4. Witnesses at the scene observed Vines tossing a loaded Smith and Wesson .38-caliber revolver into nearby grass after the car wreck. The weapon was recovered by the police, and it was discovered that the suspect was legally prohibited from possessing firearms.
The worst part about the story is that Vines has made the excellent decision in his short life to have a handgun permanently tattooed right in the center of his own forehead. Some might call it body art. Others might say it reveals one of his true passions in life. But it might have behooved Vines to steer clear of legal trouble so that he could legally possess a real firearm and not just one dyed into the skin of his face.
