If you head down to a Walt Disney World hotel in Orlando, Fla., chances are you’ll notice something missing. The company has removed the “Do Not Disturb” signs from a few of its locations and replaced them with “Room Occupied” tags.
A recent guest took a picture of the sign and posted it to Twitter:

It reads, “The Disney Resort hotel and its staff reserve the right to enter your room, even when this sign is displayed, for maintenance, safety, security or any other purpose.”
With this move, the hotels will allow housekeeping and other staff to enter guest rooms after knocking and announcing their presence, according to Disney.
In a similar move in late 2017, Hilton Hotels and Resorts changed their “Do Not Disturb” sign policy, recommending that staff alert hotel management in the event that the sign is on a room’s doorknob consistently for 24 hours. Both companies cite safety as a reason for the change.
There is speculation that these changes have been put in place because of the massacre at the Mandalay Bay hotel in Las Vegas last year, when a gunman holed up in his room, turning it into a sniper’s nest. He ended up killing 58 people at a concert that was going on below.
