Alec Baldwin on Cruel 2007 Voicemail to Daughter: 'It's a Scab That Never Heals'

Alec Baldwin seems to be everywhere these days. He notoriously appears on Saturday Night Live from time to time to play Donald Trump, and he is currently starring in the animated feature film Boss Baby. To top it off, he just released his memoir, “Nevertheless,” and stopped by “Good Morning America” to chat about it with George Stephanopoulos. But despite all of his success, the infamous voicemail that the actor left his 11-year-old daughter, Ireland, ten years ago won’t stop haunting him. And it has damaged his relationship with the now 21-year-old.

According to the NY Daily News:

“It’s thrown in your face every day,” Baldwin said of the message he left for his then-11-year-old daughter that was picked up by the media in 2007 and quickly spread. “There are people who admonish me or attack me, and use that as a constant spearhead to do that. It’s a scab that never heals, because it’s being picked up all the time by other people. And my daughter, that’s hurt her in a permanent way.”

In the voicemail, Baldwin can be heard hurling insults at his preteen daughter, whom he shares with ex-wife Kim Basinger, for apparently missing a phone call they had scheduled.

Baldwin went on to marry wife Hilaria in 2012 and has since had three children with her.

“You talk about in the business, you have to be lucky, and I have been lucky in some degree, but I’m luckier in my personal life,” Baldwin said. “And I’m glad that I’m luckier in my personal life. If I had to choose, I’d pick that.”
