Megan Rapinoe and her teammates may be planning on boycotting the White House, but that doesn’t mean that the White House is boycotting them. In a show of support for the U.S. Women’s National Team and in honor of their third consecutive World Cup Final, President Trump is sending a delegation of White House officials to France. What’s more, the president is sending an all-female delegation in a show of solidarity with the success that some of America’s greatest female athletes are having.
The Hill reports that the delegation will be led by Karen Dunn Kelley, the Deputy Commerce Secretary. The website adds:
Other administration officials who will attend Sunday’s match in Lyon are U.S. Ambassador to France Jamie McCourt, Director of the Peace Corps Josephine Olsen, Health and Human Services official Seema Verma and State Department official Marie Royce.
Shauna Rohbock, a former professional soccer player and member of Trump’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition will also join, as will Kelly Loeffler, co-owner of the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream.
Their Finals opponent remains to be determined, depending on the outcome of the semi-final match between Sweden and the Netherlands. Favored to win no matter which team they face, the USWNT has an outstanding invitation to visit the White House, win or lose. USWNT co-captain Rapinoe, who has famously protested the national anthem, calling it, “a good F you” to President Trump, has led her teammates in a boycott of the traditional visit to the White House. Instead, the team is planning on visiting with Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
It’s going to be a lot harder for leftists to accuse President Trump of pettiness when he honors a team that has proven to be very disrespectful toward him in the past. Hopefully, Trump’s actions will spur a change of heart in Rapinoe and her teammates. It’s not too late for the USWNT to change their minds about visiting the White House. Regardless, following President Trump’s example, all Americans should be cheering our national team on to victory.
