Senate democrat Herb Kohl, who chairs the subcommittee on anti-trust and consumer rights, has asked the big 4 wireless providers to justify “sharply rising rates” being charged for text messaging. Kohl is concerned the rising rates signal decreasing competition in the wireless industry. The Senator’s query comes at a time when EU regulators are considering a cap on text rates for travelers outside their home nation, in an effort to drive prices down.
