Rolling Over in Their Graves

The last two weeks have created great disturbances in the force.

Willie with saddlebags

First, our late dog, Willie (pictured above) must be jumping up and down in Doggie Heaven saying “DAMN, I left too early!” He would have adored Texas.  16 acres of stuff to smell and pee on?  At least his mini-me, Harold, the golden retriever owned by our tenants, who is Willie’s spitting image,  can enjoy it.

But also Willie was named after Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas, and in particular his broad reading of the first amendment.  Which brings me to my other grave disturbance.  Ed and I are the managers of Full Digital Jacket, LLC which organizes programs about the 1st and 2nd Amendments.  My mother was a proponent of the 1st amendment… to a point. She was at odds with the ACLU over their support of the rights of Nazi organizations to say stupid things, and while, like the Blues Brothers, I hate Illinois Nazis as much as the next person, I thought the 1st amendment was intended to protect unpopular opinions, as the popular ones rarely need protecting.

But she was not, a proponent of the 2nd amendment… or at least not to the extent it has anything to do with guns. So when we were in Texas last week, meeting with the Wildlife sales manager from Rough Creek to … well honestly to have dinner, but we did discuss the hunting schedule for Bullets and Bourbon, Full Digital Jacket’s first event, I am certain my mother was rolling over in her grave screaming Nooooooooooooooo!!!

Which means I didn’t have to worry about her accidentally listening in to the Michael Graham Show in Atlanta last week, where I talked about the event. Click here to listen:

For much more on Bullets and Bourbon, stop by the event’s Website for all the details, and to sign up. We’d love to see you there.
