Maybe He Means 9/11 was like a Giant Wine Glass Breaking

Wow, critics of Proposition #8 we’re right: overturn it, and anything can happen — including America and al-Qaida getting hitched!

Now playing at the The Blaze, the new Website by Glenn Beck and co-run by Scott Baker of the B-Cast videoblog, Naked Emperor News spots this bizarre marriage analogy by Feisal Abdul Rauf, the in-house imam of now infamous planned Ground Zero Mosque:

I’ve tried to transcribe Rauf’s utterances through repeated listening to the above clip. Here goes:

In the aftermath of 9/11, when you try to bridge relationships between any two sides where there has been tensions reaching such a level, one of the things you have to do is to explain to each side why the other side feels angry. Whether it’s, you know, marital counseling between the husband and the wife, you have to explain to the husband, actions that he has done, which in the perception of the wife has offended her, and vice-versa. When there is pain on each side, you have to explain to each side what has caused the pain of the other. And part of my role has been to explain to the each side, you know, the position of the other, so that people can understand it. That is how you are able to bring about an understanding to change the reality. [Heavy sigh.] I have taken upon myself the role of bridge-builder. To be a bridge-builder, Joseph, you have to have a foot on each side of the divide if you are going to become a bridge.

The 9/11-meets-Oprah analogy isn’t new; recall the left’s freakout when Karl Rove noted in 2005:

Conservatives saw the savagery of 9/11 in the attacks and prepared for war; liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers.

Understanding is one thing, but it’s rare when someone who is trying to portray his proposed mosque as outside of the events of 9/11 that he has “a foot on each side of the divide.”

Clearly, this is a case of a bridge-builder too far; if the Cordoba House is proffering therapy to bridge the gap between religions, this merely the latest example of their failing rather badly.
