A longtime Clintonite withdrew his support for Hillary Clinton Sunday, citing “the very real possibility of a constitutional crisis” should she be elected as his rationale.
During his Sunday appearance on the “Fox Report” hosted by Harris Faulkner with Pat Caddell and John LeBoutillier, Democrat consultant and pollster Doug Schoen said that it would be “very difficult, if not impossible” for him to vote for Hillary Clinton on November 8.
“As you know, I have been a supporter of Secretary Clinton,” Schoen began. “Given that this investigation is going to go on for many months after the election — if the secretary of state wins, we will have a president under criminal investigation….”
He said that under these circumstances he would have to reassess his support.
“I’m deeply concerned that we will have a constitutional crisis if she’s elected,” Schoen said. He added, “I want to learn more this week, [and] see what we see, but as of today, I am not a supporter of the secretary of state for the for the nation’s highest office.”
Republican John LeBoutillier chimed in, saying that it was up to Trump to frame the following message for the voters: “If she wins, we’re going to have the following things — we’re going to have the House of Representatives investigating this Justice Department, the FBI investigation is going to be investigated, the president elect will be investigated, there will be complete gridlock, mayhem…. You want a dysfunctional government? You’re going to get it even more.”
In The Hill this morning, Schoen wrote with “extreme sadness” that he is “now convinced that we will be facing the very real possibility of a constitutional crisis with many dimensions and deleterious consequences should Secretary Clinton win the election.”
FBI Director James Comey’s decision to make public the fact that more emails potentially pertinent to the Clinton probe had been found on Anthony Weiner’s computer changes the impact of this election on the future of the country.
I say this because regardless of what Secretary Clinton did or didn’t do or what her aide, Huma Abedin, did or didn’t do or even what Anthony Weiner did or didn’t do, I am now convinced that we will be facing the very real possibility of a constitutional crisis with many dimensions and deleterious consequences should Secretary Clinton win the election.
In the best case scenario, there will be at the very least a criminal investigation of president-elect Clinton. And there will be a criminal investigation of Huma Abedin, which is apparently ongoing. Furthermore, there will be potential investigations into the actions of the Justice Department and most of all the FBI and its director, James Comey.
After the past eight years wherein America has become progressively more and more divided and a campaign season that has magnified these divisions, I fear for that we will not be able to withstand this kind of continued scandal.
Schoen says he has known the Clintons since 1994. He worked on Bill Clinton’s reelection campaign in 1996 as well as Senator Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign in 2008. The Democrat pollster has never been a fan of Barack Obama’s divisive, Alinskyite style of politics, however. Following Clinton’s defeat, he became associated with “People United Means Action” — a movement of disaffected Clinton supporters who refused to support Obama.
