The liberal media sure is fickle. Once upon a time in the not-so-distant past, they were obsessed with a certain type of “milestone.” Now, not so much. Ace of Spades explains:
Bush, obviously, did not want the press to highlight the number of casualties in the Iraq War, but the press did not oblige his wishes, and reported each day’s “Grim Milestone.”
Obama also does not want his bodycount to dominate the news — but, get this, the press is is more than willing to pretend these stories away.
Indeed. Thanks to the media’s studious avoidance of Obama-era global war on terror bodycount stories, most Americans are not aware that 75% of the casualties in the 13-year Afghanistan war have been under Obama. A stunning 92% of Marine casualties in the Afghan war have occurred under Obama.
The MSM isn’t interested in talking about a whole host of other Obama failures, either.
Where Bush was asked every day if he regretted invading Iraq, Obama is never asked if he thinks leaving Iraq had something to do with the chaos engulfing the region, or the vulnerability of citizens here and in Europe to Islamic State-inspired attacks.
And while Bush was held responsible for every last casualty that occurred anywhere while he held office, Obama is absolved from responsibility for the massacres, rapes and enslavement of innocents that have followed his numerous foreign policy blunders — given a pass as the victim of forces he did not enable and disasters he didn’t create.
This doesn’t mean the media has given up on “grim milestone” stories in the age of Obama. Oh no. They’ve just altered the type of “milestone” to keep track of.
Now we tabulate the number of days it’s taken for the GOP to investigate an Obama-era debacle that led to American casualties in Benghazi. Whereas before — during the Bush era — they kept count of the casualties, now they keep count of the days it’s taking Republicans to investigate the casualties.
From MSNBC’s “GOP’s Benghazi Committee passes ignominious milestone”:
McClatchy reported this morning on the partisan exercise passing an ignominious milestone. As of Wednesday, the House Select Committee on Benghazi has been in existence for 609 days, surpassing the length of time the 9/11 Commission took to investigate the terrorist attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people on Sept. 11, 2001.“Instead of following the bipartisan model set by the 9/11 Commission, which brought our entire nation together after we were attacked by terrorists, Republicans created a highly partisan Select Committee with an unlimited budget to attack their political opponents,” said Rep. Elijah Cummings of Maryland, the committee’s top Democrat. “Republicans continue to drag out this political charade closer to the 2016 presidential election, and the American taxpayers continue to pay the price.”
The AP also took the Democrats’ dubious talking points as gospel.
Democrats note that the probe, begun in May 2014, has gone on longer than the 9/11 Commission took to investigate the terrorist attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people on Sept. 11, 2001.
But get this: the Democrats are wrong. Again. The 9/11 Commission was established on November 27, 2002, and closed August 21, 2004. That’s 634 days not 609 days as stated in the Democrats’ press release today. They’re off by more than three weeks.
And the reason the House Select Committee on Benghazi is dragging on so long? Because the White House, the State Department, and Democrats on the committee — chief among them Rep. Cummings — have not been cooperating with the investigation. They’re putting politics ahead of the search for answers for the Benghazi families. How’s that for “ignominious”?
Benghazi committee spokesman Matt Wolking issued the following statement on Wednesday:
“Democrats on the Benghazi Committee continue to waste taxpayer dollars playing politics and issuing stupid, meaningless press releases that are inaccurate to boot. Their complete lack of interest in getting answers for the families of the four Americans who died because they were left without adequate security on September 11 in one of the most dangerous places in the world is grotesque. If Democrats would actually assist with the investigation instead of undermining it – and stop acting as a full-fledged arm of the Clinton campaign – perhaps the committee wouldn’t still be waiting for crucial documents and witnesses to be produced by the administration.”
The Democrats on the Benghazi committee have engaged in shameful behavior since its onset, but this latest nonsense is a new low for them.
