Purer Than the Driven Snow
With the announcement on Monday that Cory Booker would be leaving the race, the Democratic primary field became decidedly more melanin-challenged. It’s worth mentioning and mocking, of course, because the Democrats never, ever stop talking about diversity.
The other things that they have difficulty shutting up about are the evils of wealth and their party’s appeal to younger voters in America.
So it is beyond entertaining that the Democratic candidates will be hitting the stage at Drake University with a group that’s mostly rich, white, male, and older.
They had a get out of jail free card for the last debate, when Andrew Yang’s eleventh hour qualification for the debate lent it a smidgeon of ethnic/racial flare.
Now their diversity street cred is a seventy-year-old patrician northeastern grandma who was once a Native American in her mind.
OK, there’s Mayor Pete too, but nobody over there likes him.
This past weekend, my colleague Rick Moran wrote a post noting that there will be more billionaires than black people in this debate.
Given the ad nauseam diversity and wealth equality rhetoric we hear from the Democrats, it is very fair to call into question the party’s sincerity on such things when looking at the way their historic field has been bleached to an almost pristine lily white.
The part of the field that has any traction with their base voters, that is.
The Democrats don’t care about people, they care about power over specific voting blocs that they can make beholden to them with unfulfilled promises. Diversity and wealth equality are merely rhetorical cudgels they like using to hit Republicans with, especially during election years. They standard Dem dig against the Republican party is that it’s just a bunch of old white rich guys.
Good thing they’ll have an old white rich woman (net worth: $12 million) on the stage so they can really differentiate themselves.
