This Is Why You Shouldn’t Trust the Media: The Santa Ana Arrest They Got Completely Wrong

Here’s your daily reminder that you don’t loathe the mainstream media enough. A report came from Santa Ana, Calif., of what appears to be masked federal agents violently detaining a man and placing him in an unmarked vehicle on Sunday.

GAAAAAASP! It’s like something out of a dystopian movie or a third-world hellhole. At least that’s how local social media and mainstream news would have you believe it.

We’ll start with the video from an Instagram account called “Santa Ana Problems." I can't embed it because of the "violent content" filter on it, but the caption reads:

A Day laborer and neighbor of Santa Ana was detained by unidentified agents in the Home Depot parking lot located at Edinger and Grand. The incident took place within the last hour.

As you can see, the caption makes the story sound like agents took down a defenseless man in an act of injustice. KTLA picked up the story and ran with it:

In a graphic video that has since gone viral on social media, about seven or more masked men wearing U.S. Border Patrol vests are seen violently detaining a father in Santa Ana before forcing him into the back of an unmarked car on Saturday.

The violent incident sparked protests in the following hours, and an online fundraiser was started through GoFundMe, where family members identified the victim as Tustin resident Narciso Barranco, a father to three sons who are all U.S. Marines.

Naturally, somebody started a GoFundMe. And as admirable as it is that his sons are Marines, authorities wouldn’t have done what they did unprovoked, right?

“KTLA has reached out to city and state officials and is awaiting a response,” the report continues. “A Santa Ana Police spokesperson said they are aware of the video circulating on social media, but had no further details. No local or federal officials have confirmed to KTLA whether the masked men were federal officers.”

But wouldn’t you know that there’s more to the story? Homeland Security chimed in on X with more context than “Santa Ana Problems” or KTLA cared to give.

Here's a little more footage:

This guy went running at law enforcement brandishing a landscaping tool, so how should officers (from any level) respond? At the absolute least, authorities should detain him for attempting to assault officers.

But the mainstream media coverage makes him sound like an innocent who wouldn’t hurt a flea. KTLA called him a “Santa Ana father.” To Fox 11, he’s just a “gardener” — picture some quiet, peaceful man enjoying the tranquility of a garden while he talks to his plants. The Santanero called him a “landscaper.” And don’t forget that his sons are Marines; apparently, in the eyes of the mainstream media, that gives him license to do whatever he wants.

As we've seen countless times, the facts of a story don't matter to the media when there's a narrative to push. This is why we can't trust the legacy press.
