Jew-hating, Commie New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani recently raised yet another firestorm of controversy by doxxing wealthy New Yorkers who could be facing the pied-à-terre tax the state's Democrats are planning to impose on owners' second homes.
Naturally, Mamdani babbled a lot of jargon about everyone "paying their fair share," which in woke-speak actually means that the most successful spend most of the year earning money that the government will confiscate, while those deemed less fortunate pay nothing into the system and receive that redistributed wealth. The Founding Fathers were completely opposed to our current system of a "progressive" income tax precisely because of how unjust it is and how it undermines the basic right to private property.
But now there's an interesting report out of the New York Post highlighting another issue with the pied-à-terre tax. Real estate insiders have disagreed on just how negative the tax would likely be going forward for their businesses, but Pamela D'Arc, a Compass agent who sells luxury residences in New York City to Hollywood celebrities and tech moguls, and Caroline Bass of Corcoran made two especially thought-provoking statements.
D'Arc highlighted the sudden growth of interest in co-ops, which are buildings that a business owns. Individuals can buy shares in the corporation and live in a unit within the corporation's apartment building. "The co-op market is the value buy, as it has been for years,” said D’Arc. “Now, people who had been shopping for condos are looking at co-ops that are pied-à-terre friendly." How ironic that Mamdani, who gripes so much about Big Business, is helping boost corporations' shareholder/renter population.
Bass’s observation was even more illuminating. “I’m seeing a ton of activity in the high-end rental market,” she commented. “These people, maybe they would have bought. Now, they’re deciding to rent a six-figure apartment.” These two comments beg the question: why do Commie politicians always end up making home ownership almost unaffordable, even for the wealthy?

The short answer, of course, is that Communists hate private property (except for the property of the very top elite in party leadership). Communism is an ideology that appeals to the bitter and the impoverished because it demands forced redistribution of wealth from the rich and the middle class. But that always necessitates property confiscation, such as Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin's liquidation of the kulaks and collectivized farms.
Mamdani has explicitly endorsed the "abolition of private property," and his director of the city Office to Protect Tenants, Cea Weaver, called to "seize private property." New York Gov. Kathy Hochul pretends to be all for home ownership, but only if her administration controls who is allowed to own a home where, subject to politicians' whims.

Communist oligarchs do use wealth redistribution to keep poorer voters happy, but ultimately in a Commie city, state, or country, almost everyone ends up being much poorer. Just ask the millions who died under Mao in China, under Stalin in Russia, under Pol Pot in Cambodia, and under the Viet Cong in Vietnam. It all starts with attacks on private property, because as the American Revolutionaries of the 18th century demonstrated, men who own land and homes (aside from the very top, titled elite) are much more likely to try to defend those homes from domestic tyrants and outside invaders. But if people realize that home ownership is out of their reach and the only possible path to success depends on government approval, those people will become much more apathetic, much less likely to challenge politicians, and much more vulnerable to changing propaganda.
Mamdani and Hochul support bringing in huge numbers of Third World illegal aliens to change the demographics of New York, making renting the only attainable option for most citizens, and totally transforming the culture of New York state and New York City. They want a populace composed of people who don't understand freedom, do not respect private property, and accept an authoritarian regime.
