There are many reasons leftists hate Christmas, but one reason is that they simply cannot and will not understand the mystery of the baby in a manger. Why? An American archbishop could tell us the reason.
"One silent night, out over the white-chalked hills of Bethlehem, came a gentle cry," said the late Archb. Fulton Sheen. "The great ones of the earth did not hear it, for they could not understand how an Infant could be greater than a man.”
Sheen continued, “At the Christ Child’s birth, only two groups of people heard the cry: the Shepherds, who know they know nothing, and the Wise Men, those who know they do not know everything. The very simple, the very learned ...Never the man who thinks that he knows everything.”
Leftists are not as humble as the shepherds — in fact, they despise those they consider "inferior" to them. The worship of experts and authorities is a key part of the leftist creed. How dare you challenge Anthony Fauci — he is The Science! How dare we suggest Democrat politicians be held accountable for breaking the law — they are titled elites! It's the arrogance of a Hillary Clinton saying she discovered the janitor was a human being as if it were a revelation, when in fact that janitor was almost certainly fifty times the human she ever was.
But then leftists are certainly not Wise Men, either. They do not try to understand reality, pursue truth, or conform their opinions to facts. Indeed, they do the opposite. They try to deny reality, crush truth, and manipulate facts. For example, leftists constantly attempt the impossible feat of altering biological sex. Likewise, they have poured billions into convincing Americans that unborn babies are not babies, in the face of overwhelming scientific evidence to the contrary. And to top it off, leftists censor anyone who dares speak truth, if they can.

I remember my college chaplain saying once, "Modern man does not hate God because He is God; they hate God because He is a Father." Perhaps, put another way, leftists hate the Christ Child not because He is God, but because He is a child. For them, power and greatness demand wealth, control, influence, indulgence, selfishness, and license. They loathe babies for their innocence, and children for their honesty, and Jesus Christ for being innocent, honest, poor, humble, and selfless. The Babe in Bethlehem upends all of leftists' most cherished goals, principles, and maxims.
In 2023, I had the marvelous opportunity to visit the cave in Bethlehem where Christ was born. It is small, stuffy, rough, and crude, but I have never felt so powerfully that a place was blessed as when I knelt there. When God became man, He descended into the earth and was born in a cave. When modern man tries to become God, he always sets his sights on the skies. Leftists do not reject God because He is too large. They reject Him because He became so small.
Or, as Fulton Sheen would say, "Exiled from the earth, our Lord is born under the earth, for the stable was in a cave...Because he's born in a cave, all who wish to see him must bend, must stoop...The proud refuse the stoop. Therefore they miss divinity."
