Monroe Warned Us About the Importance of Education. Now We Have a Crisis.

Founding Father and fifth U.S. president James Monroe tried to impress upon his fellow Americans two centuries ago the vital importance of high-quality, pro-freedom education in a republic.

As we look at the catastrophe that American education has become and the consequent radicalization and ignorance of a significant portion of U.S. voters, we must recognize how right Monroe was — and take his advice to heart. If we don’t reclaim our schools from kindergarten through university, restoring once again liberal arts, objective science, patriotic content, and more, the future of America is already doomed.

James Monroe, who was born in April 1758, emphasized, “In a representative republic, the education of our children must be of the utmost importance!” Fortunately, the Trump administration seems to agree and is working to eradicate DEI, CRT, transgender ideology, and more pernicious Marxism from schools.

Nearly 40 pro-Hamas Johns Hopkins students just lost their visas thanks to the Trump administration. But the corruption is so deep and so entrenched that it will take the efforts of all of us patriots from the ground up and the top down to address the educational crisis.

It would be valuable if we made the model of education that Booker T. Washington espoused our goal, teaching young people a mixture of practical skills like carpentry and sewing, along with the academic classics of Western civilization.

Far too many schools are focused on pushing destructive woke ideology. For instance, a new professor at Boston’s Berklee College of Music is a rabid antisemite, according to Campus Reform

In 2020, Nicholas Payton posted a video to Instagram in which he critiqued Jewish people for “oppressing” and “exploiting” black people, telling Jews to “apologize” and “atone,” as noted by The Washington Free Beacon… “All these so-called Jews mad, because how dare I make them face the facts of their sordid past and present of them oppressing black people… Expose how Jewish people have exploited us. Apologize for it and atone and do better.”

Berklee Dean Sean Skeete enthused, “I believe his experience as a world-class artist and educator will further advance Berklee’s reputation as a leader in arts education.” Hopefully, Payton won’t target any Jewish students he might have in class.

And again from Campus Reform:

Florida’s major public universities are adapting their identity-based graduation events in response to state and federallaws that have eliminated diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices.

Four Florida universities are holding ceremonies to honor LGBTQ+ graduates, but the terminology has shifted.

Previously known as “Lavender Graduations,” these ceremonies are now being rebranded as Lavender “gala[s]” or “celebration[s]” at state-funded institutions.

But it all comes down to the same thing. An LGBTQ graduation by any other name would still be as radical and stupid.

Then there’s the problem of the sexual grooming of kids. And unsurprisingly, a number of the teachers who sexualize children also end up assaulting or raping them. The latest such evil educator is Choctaw-Nicoma Park teacher Samuel Melton, who allegedly engaged in sexual incidents with a 16-year-old “every day for about a year on school property before school started, during the school day, and after it ended.”

There are signs of hope, however. For instance, Campus Reform reported that Gen Z is increasingly looking for an alternative to leftism with its hatred, irrationality, and dishonesty, and turning instead to Catholicism.

Instead of trusting the “experts” and politicians who want to harm and propagandize our children, we need to take personal responsibility to make the education of our children once again of the utmost importance in our representative republic.
