National Public Radio is not exactly the lion’s den for Democrats. Yet Hillary Clinton couldn’t even get through an NPR interview, on a subject friendly to her, without getting snippy with reporter Terry Gross.
Gross wanted the answer to a simple question: When did Hillary Clinton come around to supporting gay marriage?
It’s a good question. In the 1990s, the majority of Democrats including President Bill Clinton publicly opposed gay marriage. They passed a federal law, the Defense of Marriage Act, to stop gay marriage. Bill Clinton signed DOMA into law.
So, Gross wanted to know, now that Hillary publicly supports gay marriage, did she support it then but couldn’t say so for political reasons? Or did Hillary come around to supporting it some time later?
Hillary refuses to give a straight answer. No pun intended. What ensues is Hillary going from being jovial to being obviously annoyed, over a fair and obvious question. At one point, Clinton goes way off script and accuses Gross of “playing with my words.”
Hillary can’t even get through a simple interview without either saying something tone deaf and stupid (“We were flat broke”) or getting flustered over nothing.
It’s a pity that we have so many low-information voters out there who will just vote for her because she’s a woman. She’s an awful candidate and would make an awful president. There’s a good chance that she would be even worse than Barack Obama.
