Confirmed: You're Never Gonna Get the Truth Out of Jay Carney

During today’s White House press briefing, National Journal’s Major Garrett asked Jay Carney if Americans should feel “lied to and misled” by President Obama for repeatedly promising that “If you like your healthcare, you can keep your healthcare. Period.”

Rather than answer it, Carney referred to inoperative comments he and the president have already made on the subject, which have been proven to have been false. Garrett retried, and Carney ends up telling yet another lie.

Carney ends the sequence claiming “The fact of the matter is, if you had insurance on the individual market prior to the passage of the Affordable Care Act, and you have that plan today, you can keep it, you’re grandfathered in forever. No matter how crummy the plan is.”

This statement simply isn’t true. It’s Pants on Fire false. Obamacare bans even most plans that were “grandfathered” in by dictating that they cannot have changed much at all, in some cases by as little as $5 in premiums. It further dictates that if your insurer cancels your plan, which under the law they must if your plan doesn’t meet HHS bureaucrat approval, you have to buy a new one that somehow escapes Carney’s “crummy” designation — even if that plan costs you more, covers you less, and forces you to deal with a much higher deductible.

None of what Jay Carney said is actually true. Slap him with Four Pinocchios, Pants on Fire, whatever. He doesn’t seem to care.

As for “crummy” plans, Obama never once sold Obamacare as “If the Kathleen Sebelius and her army of regulators like your healthcare, you can keep your healthcare.” Not one time. But he is selling it that way now, both in his speech yesterday and through Jay Carney today. That will be the sales job going forward. The whole Obamacare structure is house of cards built on a foundation of lies.
