David Plouffe, like David Axelrod and Bob Bauer, bounced back and forth between Obama’s campaigns and White House, as the IRS was abusing the president’s opponents. On Sunday, Plouffe pushed the panic button over Rep. Darrell Issa’s investigation into the IRS abuse scandal.

In the words of Obama spokesman Jay Carney, the Benghazi attack on 9-11-12 was a “long time ago.” But something that happened 33 years ago, and of which Issa was cleared decades ago, is relevant? Care to show your work on this, Barack Obama?
NRO’s Jim Geraghty provides a little perspective on what was going on when the charge against Issa went bye-bye.

The White House is deeply worried. Obama is trying to pick a fight over student loans to distract, as Biden has gone off into a cave somewhere. Aides are floating Holder as a sacrificial lamb to the New York Times. Contrary to Obama’s claim that he’s “outraged” by the IRS, his apologists aren’t even expressing any outrage that the IRS abused citizens based on their politics. They’re defending the IRS, calling the scandal “stupid” and attacking the people’s investigators. With new hearings coming this week, they’re behaving as if they have something to hide, which is among the best evidence available that they do.
