Colorado Democrat Rep. Diana DeGette created a national stir when she mocked a senior citizen’s concern over gun confiscation, laughing while telling him that he would probably be dead anyway if he waited on the police to help him. During that same forum, DeGette also said that banning gun magazines would effectively ban firearms, because, in her words, “the bullets would have been shot and there won’t be any more available.”
“These are ammunition, they’re bullets, so the people who have those now, they’re going to shoot them, so if you ban them in the future, the number of these high-capacity magazines is going to decrease dramatically over time because the bullets will have been shot and there won’t be any more available,” DeGette, who has obviously never actually operated a firearm, said.
The Democrat is evidently unaware that bullets =/= magazines. Magazines can be loaded and reloaded over and over again. Thousands, maybe millions, of Americans actually know how to manufacture their own bullets and magazines. Cody Wilson’s Defense Distributed is already printing working magazines via 3D printers.
Through a spokeswoman today, DeGette tried to walk the stupid back. She only ended up piling on more stupid. The Denver Post takes up the story from there.
“The congresswoman has been working on a high-capacity assault magazine ban for years and has been deeply involved in the issue; she simply misspoke in referring to ‘magazines’ when she should have referred to ‘clips,’ which cannot be reused because they don’t have a feeding mechanism,” Johnson said.
Actually, clips in most guns can be reused as well.
Shorter Democrat Diana DeGette: Frackin’ guns, how do they work? Yet she’s sponsoring the federal bill that would ban some firearms magazines.
