OBAMA: Well, I think that, you know, we have the potential of getting a deal done, but it’s going to require what I talked about during the campaign, which is a balanced, responsible approach to deficit reduction that can help give businesses certainty and make sure that the country grows.
And unfortunately, the speaker’s proposal right now is still out of balance. You know, he talks, for example, about $800 billion worth of revenues, but he says he’s going to do that by lowering rates. And when you look at the math, it doesn’t work.
Since when does Barack Obama care about the math working? His answer there is a disingenuous joke. Obama has admitted that he can’t do math above a 7th grade level, for one thing. For another, he explicitly supports hiking taxes on the “rich” out of “fairness,” even acknowledging that it might bring in less revenue than just doing nothing.

When government has decreased taxes on capital gains, the government has taken in more revenue. But Obama is not interested in that. He is interested in “fairness,” which is subjective, and in his case is predicated on the notion that it’s the government’s money to take. He is interested in meting out punishment upon his enemies. That is the way the man thinks.
The GOP is very stupidly allowing Obama to get out in front on the communications during the false negotiations, and failing to point out that Obama is pining for a crisis. When we go over the fiscal cliff — and we will, unless Obama is scared out of his scheme to use the crisis to split the GOP and seize even more power — a majority of Americans will blame the Republicans. It’s not fair, but it’s life in our post-modern culture, and the Republicans had better start planning to deal with reality and get ahead of the crisis.
At a minimum, Republican leaders should demand that the fiscal cliff negotiations be held on CSPAN. Most Americans won’t tune in of course, but those who do would see a peculiar thing: Barack Obama is not even in the room.
