Boehner reacts to Obama, slams Democrats

Speaker John Boehner reacted to President Obama’s earlier comments on the budget, and made some good points. The Republican-controlled House passed a federal budget six weeks ago, but the Democrat-controlled Senate has yet to act on it. So to the extent that the Republicans have any say, they have done their job. It’s now up to the Democrats to act. He also made the point again that it’s the Democrats who are pushing for a shutdown, and it’s President Obama who is failing to lead.

President Obama’s failure isn’t so much a failure as it’s part of the strategy. He wants a shutdown, but wants to dodge all of the blame. He wants all of that to stick to the Republicans. That’s why he left town, and it’s why he’s setting himself up as the non-partisan referee between two warring houses of Congress. That strategy will only work if the GOP lets it. So far, they’re not.
