Harry Reid says 'we'll take a look' at Koran burning

There are only a couple of things about the Koran burning, and its violent aftermath in Afghanistan, that need looking into. And it’s not the man who did the burning.

“Ten to 20 people have been killed,” Reid said on “Face the Nation,” but refused to say flat-out that the Senate would pass a resolution condemning pastor Terry Jones.

“We’ll take a look at this of course…as to whether we need hearings or not, I don’t know,” he added.

Rev. Jones broke no laws, as Reid surely knows. The only things that warrant some looking into are the role that Taliban might have played in starting the riots, and the role Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai might have played in inciting them. Knowing the first would help us put some perspective on whether the riots were really widespread and reflect the broad situation in Afghanistan or if they were ginned up by the same savages our troops have been fighting for a decade now. Knowing the second would help determine if it’s time to find an alternative to the president we’ve been assisting for that decade. It might also help determine once and for all whose side Karzai is really on.
