A Gallup poll out yesterday found more Republicans are neutral about the Tea Party than support the movement, while 43 percent of Tea Partiers find the GOP “unfavorable.”
Overall, support for the Tea Party is at 22 percent, according to Gallup’s polling, near the record low of 21 percent recorded two years ago. That amounts to ten percentage points off the 2010 Tea Party midterm success.
Fifty-one percent of Americans say they have no opinion about the Tea Party or don’t count themselves as either a supporter or opponent. That column has been the greatest to grow since the 2010 midterm rout, with onetime supporters joining the “no opinion” ranks instead of the opponents.
The poll was taken before Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-Texas) all-night floor speech this week. On his signature issue, a CNBC poll out yesterday showed 35 percent having a “very negative” reaction to Obamacare and 24 percent viewing the Affordable Care Act, the official name of the law, as very negatively. Conversely, 14 percent view Obamacare as “very positive” while just 10 percent feel that strongly about the Affordable Care Act.
