A press release from an Ohio congressman today inadvertently offed one of his fellow Republicans.
“RENACCI STATEMENT ON PASSING OF CONGRESSMAN JOE WILSON” said the original release from Rep. Jim Renacci’s (R-Ohio) office.
Five minutes later, it was followed by a press release correcting the name of Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) to former Rep. Charlie Wilson (D-Ohio), who passed away at age 70 on Sunday.
“Corrected Headline: RENACCI STATEMENT ON PASSING OF CONGRESSMAN CHARLIE WILSON” the new version read.
“Like many Ohioans, I was sad to hear Charlie Wilson had passed away this weekend. Charlie was considered by just about everyone to be a good friend, a loving father and grandfather, and a dynamic Member of Congress,” said the second-term Ohio Republican. “He was always friendly to me when we met, and he will be missed by former constituents, colleagues and, most of all, by his family. My thoughts and prayers are with them at this time.”
