Gore: Nobel Now. President Next?

[New Items on Top]

GM’s Corner: “The point, dear reader, is the beatification of on Albert Gore, tireless crusader for pseudo-science and popularizer of lies to foster a “larger truth.” The way to sainthood for, as I like to call him Owlgore, has a couple of purposes, one to “reward” him for having had the 2000 election “stolen” (it wasn’t) and two because he is such a force for bad science; the antithesis of what Alfred Nobel Stood for.”

View From a Height: “In any case, rumor has it that Al Gore is chartering the QE II to ferry his lawyers over to Oslo in the event of a recount.”

Gates of Vienna: “As I said, we don’t live in a perfect world. Thus the likes of Gore can triumph over the venerable history of the Salvation Army. Yet long after his theories and bombast are but distant, embarrassing echoes, the Salvation Army will be carrying on as it has since its beginnings.”

Maxine: “Please educate us at MAXINE, what does bad climate science prediction have to do with the effort of reducing violent difference resolution between organized human beings around the world?”

The Lede: “This year’s prize, like the last few, shows that the Nobel committee continues to use an expansive notion of “peace” and who and what make the most significant contributions to it. Some of the conservative reaction scoffs at the notion that global warnings about global warming are within its scope (especially false warnings, as the right sees them), while those who agree with Mr. Gore wonder how anyone could fail to make the connection between carbon emissions and global conflict.”

Vodkapundit: “Gore hasn’t brought us peace, but he’s sure waging a fine war against capitalism. And if there’s one thing a bunch of herring-stuffed Nordic socialists love, it’s anybody who makes millions by attacking free markets.”

Melanie Phillips: “Awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to Gore- along with the wretched Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change whose own untruths would fill a book – perfectly symbolises a western world that has lost its reason and its capacity to tell truth from lies.

Extreme Mortman: “Al Gore, Emissary of Peace … or merchant of war and death?”

Power Line: “When did the Nobel Peace Prize go off the tracks? Today’s award to Al Gore and the IPCC ‘for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change’ fits in with a subset of cosmopolitan frauds, fakers, murderers, thieves, and no-accounts going back about twenty years.”

Roger Simon: “Gore Deserves Nobel Prize More Than Oscar”

QandO: “If there was any suspense in this award at all it was whether or not Al would take a private jet to the ceremony or fly commercial.”

Scared Monkeys: “The question that many should be asking is, WHY isn’t Al “its not easy being green” Gore not running for the presidency? One would truly think that if someone was so concerned with their cause and it meant the survival of all mankind that they would run for the office to be the leader of the free world and use that platform for good. So why isn’t Al running?”

Dr. Sanity: “I’m amazed. I thought Cindy Sheehan had it all sewn up. Or Hugo Chavez.”

Hot Air: “It’s like getting an A++ on John Kerry’s all-important ‘global test.'”

Fark: “Woman who saved 2500 Jews during the Holocaust given Nobel Peace Prize — just kidding, it’s the guy who emits over a ton of CO2 a year telling us to stop global warming”

Michelle Malkin notes Czech president Vaclav Klaus being “‘somewhat surprised’ that former US vice president Al Gore received the Nobel Peace Prize, the president’s spokesman Petr Hajek said in a statement.”

A Second Hand Conjecture: “I can only assume they wanted to give him an award, and if they tried to give him one in the sciences the scientific community would double over in laughter. The ironic thing is that the IPCC has actually compiled some real science, while Al Gore’s claims are way out of the consensus the panel is trying to achieve. The claims Gore makes are an embarrassment to the scientific consensus. Most of the much derided “skeptics” are closer to the IPCC’s work than Al Gore.”

Sisu: “Running with the herd trumps the search for truth.”

ScrappleFace: “Although former Vice President Al Gore won the Nobel Peace Prize this week for his work as a global-warming performance artist, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled early today that President George Bush would receive the gold medal, the diploma and the $750,000.”

Neo-Neocon: “Why am I so down on Gore? I don’t like the politicization of science and the concomitant twisting of facts in that effort. I certainly don’t mind him presenting a scientific point of view he believes is vital for the world to know, but the evidence is clear that Gore’s devotion to truth in his movie has been only a trifle behind that of Oliver Stone’s biopics.”

Daimnation: “I would have preferred to see the Prize go to some of the people putting their lives on the line to fight tyranny in Zimbabwe, Burma or the Middle East, but we knew this was coming.”

Damian Thompson: “The former US Vice-President has already taken over from Michael Moore as the most sanctimonious lardbutt Yank on the planet. Can you imagine what he’ll be like now that the Norwegian Nobel committee has given him the prize? More to the point, can you imagine how enormous his already massive carbon footprint will become once he starts jetting around the world bragging about his new title?”

Carpetbagger Report: “media attention immediately shifted to whether Gore would parlay the Nobel Peace Prize into a presidential campaign. The speculation strikes me as wildly misplaced.”

No More Mister Nice Blog: “I know I’m questioning a virtually unchallengeable bit of conventional wisdom, but can someone please explain to me why winning the Nobel Peace Prize would improve Al Gore’s presidential prospects in any way whatsoever?”

Gina Cobb: “So the Nobel Prize committee closes its eyes to the biggest source of violence against innocent civilians in the world today — Islamic terrorism — and instead goes searching for debatable problems that haven’t necessarily killed anyone yet, but might someday.”

The Opinion Mill: “Quite a decade Al Gore is having: first he wins the 2000 presidential election, and now he gets to share this year’s Nobel Peace Prize with the U.N. panel on climate change. He never got to enjoy the first accomplishment, but there’s no way the Supreme Court can rob him of this one – even if Scalia and Thomas figure out a way to suspend airline service to Scandinavia, or King George II decides to bomb Norway and Sweden, Gore’s name is on the thing and that’s that.”

Pirate’s Cove: “The Nobel Prize committee has basically surrendered to hysterics, mass exaggerators, and liars, most of who are not even climatologists or even any type of scientist.”

Ken McCracken: “Just goes to show you that the Nobel Peace Prize is about as authentic a recognition of achievment in the field of peace as a winning lottery notification via email. Perhaps even less.”

Fausta’s Blog: “Tripping over themselves to further assininity, the Committee bypassed true heroes of the worldwide struggle for freedom, such as the Burmese monks and the Ladies in White”

Tom Bevan @ RCP: “I still don’t think he’s going to do it, if for no other reason than because after the amazing run he’s had over the last two years it would be a bitter end to put himself on the line and lose out to Hillary Clinton. Then again, the urge for redemption may be too strong for Gore to resist.”

Right Wing Nut House: “I doubt whether Hillary Clinton is losing any sleep over a potential Gore candidacy. She’s way ahead, she has more money than God, and it’s just about 90 days to the New Hampshire primary – not enough time to pull an organization together, raise the money, and run any kind of a professional campaign. It’s not that his chances of success would be small. His chances of success would be zero.”

Confederate Yankee: “I wasn’t even aware that they had a Nobel Prize for deceptive rhetoric.”

Big Lizards: “I assume that if Gore does decide to run, his entire campaign will more or less revolve around implementing some draconian, Luddite shutdown of industry in order to appease the Globaloney gods. Will that, combined with his status as the angriest dog in the world, be enough to knock Hillary off her pedestal of clay?”

On Deadline publishes Gore’s statement in reaction to the award.

Leaning Straight Up: “I’m disgusted, but no more then I was in 2000 when he went on his robotic mission to count all democrat votes in Florida. Apparently the Nobel Peace Prize is not what it used to be.”

Ann Althouse: “Is Al supposed to sit home and content himself with his collection of every prize but the presidency? Or is he going to emerge from his world of warmth – where everyone effuses over his brilliant goodness – and come back to the cold reality of a presidential campaign? And what is Hillary thinking right now?”

Perri Nelson: “Perhaps that political activity, those lectures, and his films and books would mean a bit more if our new Nobel laureate practiced what he preaches. It’s not the first time the liberals in Oslo have rewarded fraud.”

Brilliant at Breakfast: “He’s not going run for president. If you were Al Gore, would YOU run for president? Would YOU subject yourself and your family to endless ruminations in the media and attacks from the right about your weight, your clothes, your son’s legal problems, their exhumation of old (and largely imaginary) scandals? Would you want to endure another year of Maureen Dowd saying you’re “practically lactating” and the press accusing you of lying — and that’s before you have to endure four to eight years of nonstop attacks from the media if you’re not able to clean up Bush’s mess quickly enough?”

Tom Curry @ MSNBC: “the record of the American politicians who have won the Peace Prize since it was first handed out in 1901 shows that if you win, it’s an indication that your peak has passed. Theodore Roosevelt, the one American Peace Prize winner who tried to stage a political comeback, failed. The list of previous American winners is dominated by politicians and statesmen whose careers in public office had ended or were soon to end: Jimmy Carter in 2002, Secretary of State Henry Kissinger in 1973, former Secretary of State George Marshall in 1953, and Vice President Charles G. Dawes in 1925.”

David Roberts @ Huffington Post: “No, it would be a disaster for Gore to enter the race at this point — not because he might lose, but because he has transcended U.S. partisan politics. He has become a figure of global stature, one of a tiny fraternity of private individuals in the world capable of driving historical change from outside the confines of any institution.”

The Swamp: “The Nobel is a huge honor recognized worldwide and gives him even more stature. It gives him a moment to reconsider the race for the Democratic nomination, now led by Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.”

Politico: “A top Gore adviser said the prize – the latest in a string of awards Gore has won for his environmental work – will not push him into running.”

Outside The Beltway: “This continues the trend of the Peace Prize being awarded, not for achievements in spreading peace, but to highlight the Committee’s political agenda.”

Jonas Kyratzes: “Seriously, people. There are certainly more disgusting figures than Gore – Bush, Kerry, Blair, etc. But just because he’s occasionally put forth an idea which isn’t catastrophically idiotic (Bush), appallingly opportunistic (Kerry) or just butt-crawlingly evil (Blair), doesn’t mean he should be elevated to being the god of the Vaguely Progressive There’s Something Wrong With The World But We Refuse To Use Our Brains To Analyze It movement.”

This Ain’t Hell: “The fact that British courts even decided last week that the documentary is full of inaccuracies didn’t deter the committee from making the politically-correct decision.”

Daily Kos: “The “world” – or at least the millions of the world’s citizens who have seen An Inconvenient Truth, and the far fewer who have read the IPCC’s extensive reports on global warming – may indeed have an understanding of the measures that need to be adopted. But we’re far from overcoming the political obstacles in the way of actually adopting those measures. One of the chief obstacles sits today in the Oval Office. Scores of others clutter Congress.”

Catallaxy: “Whatever the scientific merits of the IPCC’s work, this still seems like an odd choice. But no odder than honouring Yasser Arafat.”

Sharon Cobb: “A lesson for all: No matter how much ridicule and rejection you endure, believe in yourself and what you’re fighting for and one day you might end up winning the Nobel Peace Prize, not to mention, change the world for the better.

Free Frank Warner: “I heard all the talk that Al Gore was the front-runner for the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize, but I was certain it was a joke.”

The Hill’s Pundit Blog: “America does not need another prize, we need another president.”

Rising Hegemon: “Here’s my prediction, Al Gore who has no way of knowing and who has no say or control over the matter anyway WILL NOT WIN THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE TOMORROW. And when he does not win the award, there will be a HAPPY DANCE from the Right Wing about a man who had no say in the matter not winning the award, like Al Gore got punked.”
