The Great Replacement Chronicles: The ‘Exoticism’ Double-Bind

Archiving the “strange death of Europe,” as Douglas Murray put it, and the West more broadly, at the hands of the neoliberal technocracy.

‘Is He Into Me, or Just Really Into Brown Women?’

Via Brown History (emphasis added):

I’ve learned a lot from dating outside my culture. I’ve learned that some people consider black pepper spicy* and that not all grown men take off their shoes when they enter their own homes. Most importantly, it has taught me that racism does not always arrive waving a flag or shouting a slur. Sometimes it arrives on time, pays for dinner, and tells you that you are “not like other Indian girls.”

The first time a white man called me exotic, I was twenty-two and still dumb enough to mistake discomfort for chemistry. We were sitting across from each other at a bar when he leaned closer and told me that he had “always had a thing for Brown girls.”

At the time, I took this as a compliment. Brown girls were beautiful, and I was a Brown girl, therefore I was beautiful; the logic appeared sound and in my defense, I was twenty-two and he was attractive. Only later did I wonder whether he had been attracted to me as an individual or whether I had simply walked into a fantasy that existed long before we met. This is the recurring question when you date outside your culture: does this person like me, or do they like what they imagine me to represent?

It would be easier if racism in dating were always that obvious. If a man showed up to a date up in a colonial costume, handed me a cricket bat, and announced in a British accent, “Teen guna lagaan dena padega” (“You’ll have to pay triple tax”), I’d know it was my time to leave. Unfortunately, modern prejudice is rarely that easy to spot, it tends to hide behind curiosity, personal preference, humor, and even admiration.

*Another iteration of the “white people don’t season they food” stereotype, a common refrain among Social Justice™ people as some kind of weird attack on Caucasians.

Democrat operative Wajahat Ali, for instance, made this same attack in a repulsive rant justifying his deep-seated hatred for white people and his open call for replacement migration:

You have lost. The mistake that you made is you let us in the first place. That's the thing with brown people—I'm saying this as a brown person. There are a lot of us… 1.2 billion in India, there’s more than 200 million in Pakistan.... We breed. We’re a breeding people.

And the problem is, you let us in in 1965. Once you let one of us in…. We have a bunch of kids. And then guess what? Some white women, you know the Western civilization women… they like some of us brown folks.

So we're embedded. We’re everywhere…

You have lost. Your story is a s****y story filled with misery. It’s filled with bland chicken. It’s filled with terrible, terrible dry-a** meat. Your music sucks. All your culture sucks. That's why the kids listen to black people and their music.

Anyway, on the substance, such as it is, of the above psychobabble diatribe by the entitled Woman of Color™ complaining about white men (literal Satan) finding her attractive, it illustrates, yet again, that, for the white man (literal Satan), the only way to win the Social Justice™ game is not to play.

If you’re not into dating ethnics, you’re obviously a Deplorable bigot; that much is obvious.

However, if, on the other hand, in order to avoid placement in the Basket of Deplorables, you indicate an affinity for ethnics, then it’s because you harbor some sick Orientalist fetish for BIPOC women or whatever.

Indeed, the Social Justice™ people invented an –ism just for such an occasion, to wield as a cudgel against the white man (literal Satan): “exoticism,” as defined via Oxford Reference:

A romanticization, fetishization, and/or commodification of ethnic, racial, or cultural otherness, as in orientalism, or primitivizing representations of the ‘noble savage’. Ethnocentric stereotyping (as in Eurocentric views of non-European cultures), in which the other is marked by difference (see markedness). In post-colonial theory, this is identified as a form of objectification, marginalization, domination, oppression, and exploitation.

So, you see, absolution is off the table entirely. The only faint hope for some kind of fleeting temporary redemption — although your sin is impossible to wash off completely — would be to carry a cat-o-nine-tails at all times in public, so that whenever a BIPOC asks you any question regardless of context, you immediate self-flagellate and spew forth such a mudslide of profuse apologies for your disgusting whiteness that, out of sheer disgust and secondhand embarrassment, the BIPOC generously grants you a (temporary) pass.
