Chronicling the creeping demise of Diversity™, Equity™, and Inclusion™, otherwise known as institutionalized racism.
Societal acquiescence to DEI initiatives shoved down Americans’ throats at academic, government, and corporate gunpoint appears to be on the decline — although the individuals and institutions who have capitalized on it surely won’t give up the ghost without a fight.
Hence a new series I’ll try out called “DEI DeathWatchParty” which, as the name suggests, will survey various news items related to the writhing death of DEI.
Iowa State gender studies professor ‘disappointed’ in DEI cuts to university
The self-interested argument this lady, a Social Justice™ professor at Iowa State, makes in favor of keeping DEI programs at the school is that they are popular with students, ergo they should be perpetuated.
Note though that she never gets around to explaining why Social Justice™ courses/programs are popular, which is that a.) these kids were groomed in public school by people like her to understand that being an “ally” confers social currency and b.) these programs are incredibly easy, even by relatively lax liberal arts standards, compared to, for instance, hard sciences.

Taking sociology courses at Valdosta State University, I don’t believe I’d ever seen before or since a dumber group of people assembled in one room than the students in those classes.
The internet archives confirm my “lived experience,” as they say.
Exhibit A is this gaggle of morons that no one transported to present day in a time machine form the 1950s would believe is not satire:

'DEI Disruptor' panicked
Rotund race hustler who regularly dresses up in vaguely pan-African costumes for his show as if his schtick wasn’t obvious enough already, Roland Martin, lamented the rollback of various DEI initiatives by Walmart, the largest private-sector employer in the United States, with fellow professional racist and “DEI Disruptor” Randi Bryant.
Nothing haunts the DEI charlatan more than the prospect of having to get a real job someday instead of bilking corporations and academic institutions terrified of lawsuits and poor Blackrock-style ESG scores.

Of course, not all retailers are abandoning the DEI Titanic so quickly. As PJ Media’s Lincoln Brown covered recently, Costco is thus far taking a stand in defense of the DEI hustle. Apple and Target have made similar pledges to continue the DEI jihad.
Time will tell how long the holdouts will last.
Texas governor threatens A&M president for perpetuating racist DEI programs in violation of state law
Texas A&M, in apparent violation of state law passed in 2023, has continued sending participants to conferences that explicitly ban white people from attendance.

Via The Dallas Morning News (emphasis added):
Gov. Greg Abbott threatened Texas A&M University President Mark Welsh III’s job over an alleged violation of the state’s ban on diversity, equity and inclusion, or DEI.
On X, Abbott responded to a report late Monday alleging that A&M was sending students to a conference that limits attendance to those who are Black, Hispanic and Native American.
“Hell, no. It’s against Texas law and violates the US Constitution,” Abbott said. “It will be fixed immediately or the president will soon be gone.”…
SB 17 is the state’s ban on DEI, signed by Abbott in 2023. The law prohibits DEI offices from public colleges and universities, as well as programs designed for those of specific races and genders…
Abbott’s message came in response to a report published by Christopher Rufo, a conservative activist and Senior Fellow at the Manhattan Institute. Rufo posted an internal email from A&M discussing potential attendance at The PhD Project, a conference for those underrepresented in business schools and the corporate world.
Rufo also posted an image from the conference’s website, listing the requirements for those applying to attend. The first requirement is that attendees must identify as Black, Hispanic or Native American.
Even if the A&M president were personally predisposed against DEI, he faces a massive internal pressure machine, surely, demanding that he defy the governor and the law.
So he’s in a hell of a spot whichever way you slice it.
Look at what the cretins at Evergreen College notoriously did to their administration in a weeks-long DEI dispute back in 2017.
We can probably expect a lot more showdowns of the same type as above, particularly in red states and particularly in publicly-funded higher education, the epicenter of DEI from which it leaks into the broader society and economy.
