Biography
On August 29, 1969, Barbara, her father, and two of her siblings fled Communist Cuba on the U.S. Freedom Flights. But Castro’s regime would not allow her mother and three of her siblings to leave the island. Barbara’s family was split apart for 23 years!
In 2021, having expressed no previous political ambition, Barbara ran for the U.S. House of Representatives for South Carolina’s 7th Congressional District, and in 2025 for chair of the South Carolina Republican Party.
Barbara explains why: “My family did not flee Cuba to once again suffer under the iron fist of Communism. As a patriotic American who proudly earned my citizenship, I simply cannot stand by while Communist Democrats and RINOs recreate Castro's Communist Cuba in the United States. No way.”
