Life is different for the families of law enforcement officers. Sure, you worry about your loved one when he or she is on the job, but the threat doesn’t end simply because the workday is over. Vengeful sociopaths and obsessive crazy people don’t stop hating when the shift ends.
On more than one occasion, when we should take our young children out, my husband would quietly utter the codeword — “client” — and I knew to keep walking up the street with the kids as if we had nothing to do with him. When we went to a restaurant, I always noted where the back door was for those occasions I had to hustle the kids out to the car and leave my husband to settle the bill and meet us, because someone who wished him ill had come in. The last thing we wanted was for a criminal enemy to take note of our faces.
And then there were the magical years of the George Floyd movement, when my husband would call out of the blue some days, just to check I knew where the pistol was. That meant there was new intel that activists were ratcheting up their anti-cop pressure campaign by targeting cops' homes.
And this is just what normal, garden-variety cops and their families deal with. Now multiply that by the intense funding and activism of the international organizations inundating Western countries with third-world foreigners to destabilize and destroy them. Finally, imagine all that militant hate, force, and resources brought to bear on a handful of individual people who happen to be patriotic immigration officers.
Now you understand why U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and other federal immigration law enforcement agents hide their identities when they're working.
The left is not wrong about the need for identifiers of agents as they perform their duties. Citizens should be able to tell at a glance that the armed militants detaining people are in fact law officers and not random thugs, kidnappers, or rival gang members. So sure, let's have the agency for which officers work (ICE, CBP, FBI, etc.) printed on their uniforms.
And if an agent is breaking the law or doing something unethical, then yes, witnesses should be able to tell authorities which of the officers needs to be dealt with. So sure, let's have individual identifiers for each one of them.
And here is the simple option that will do just that, but without revealing identities of agents who have done nothing wrong and who don't deserve to be targeted by aggressive political activists: badge numbers. Or alphanumeric codes, or any identifiers that can be seen clearly, memorized easily, and are unique to each agent. So if someone is perhaps a tad overzealous in the performance of his or her duties, then witnesses have only to name "ICE #23" or "CBP Agent B-12," and authorities know whom to look into.
But that will never be enough for the left. Intimidating officers from doing their jobs with the unspoken threat that one of the left's unstable assassins will follow them home is part and parcel of its action plan to suppress enforcement of duly passed laws and fill the country with culturally dissonant illegal immigrants.

The globalist leftist organization Center for American Progress authored a factsheet calling for unmasking federal agents. There, it quotes a policy statement from the International Association of Chiefs of Police on the matter:
WHEREAS, the use of face coverings and the absence of visible identification during enforcement operations can create confusion, fear, and mistrust among community members and responding agencies, potentially increasing operational risks and eroding public confidence; and WHEREAS, clearly visible agency affiliation and unique identifiers—such as badge numbers or alphanumeric codes—enhance both accountability and officer safety, and align with long-standing policing practices …
But CAP leaves out another part of the same IACP statement:
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the IACP strongly condemns the doxxing of police officers and calls on federal, state, and local prosecutors to pursue such offenses aggressively, while supporting the enactment of strong legal protections to safeguard officers and their families from targeted threats and harassment; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the IACP supports the use, where appropriate, of unique, non-name-based identifiers—such as alphanumeric codes or badge numbers—on uniforms or outer garments that allow for accountability and complaint tracking without compromising officer safety; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the IACP opposes legislation that would prohibit the use of masks or facial coverings by law enforcement officers during enforcement operations, and instead supports policies that allow for their limited, justified use when officer safety, undercover status, or operational integrity may be at risk;…
Immigration law enforcement agents will uncover their faces when the left calls off its attack dogs.
