Five students at a California high school were forced to leave school and then face disciplinary action yesterday for the crime of wearing clothing printed with American flag designs.
If you’re wondering how being patriotic could possibly merit punishment, it’s because the kids displayed the American flags on May 5. And as everyone knows, American flags are absolutely verboten on May 5.
Right? Doesn’t anybody remember that rule? Anybody? Bueller?
According to local TV stations KTVU and NBC Bay Area, this bewildering and deeply unsettling incident happened at Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, a suburban town south of San Jose. As KTVU reported,
Five students at a South Bay high school stirred up some controversy Wednesday for wearing t-shirts depicting red, white and blue American flags on Cinco de Mayo.
School officials at Live Oak High in Morgan Hill told the students they had to go home if they wouldn’t turn the shirts inside out.
One of the students said it appeared school administrators were worried the patriotic shirts could trigger fights.
Some students at Live Oak High in Morgan Hill said others were planning to come to school Thursday wearing red, white and blue.
Four of the five students who wore American flags or patriotic colors on campus walked into a meeting with the superintendent of the Morgan Hill unified school district Wednesday night.
They were facing unexcused absences because they chose to go home early rather than take off what they were wearing.
“We knew it was Cinco de Mayo. But we just came to show our flag,” said student Dominic Maciel. “We didn’t mean anything by it. We didn’t want to start anything. Nothing like that.”
Student Anthony Caravalho was also sent home for not turning his shirt inside out.
“They said we had to wear our t-shirts inside out and then we could go back to class and we said no,” said Caravalho. “It would be disrespectful to the flag by hiding it.”
Daniel Galli, another student who was reprimanded for wearing a US flag, described what he was told by school administration.
“He said ‘If you wear it on any other day, it’s fine; but just because it’s today you can’t wear it,’” Galli said.

Make sure to watch the video at the KTVU link, because it shows clearly that the kids were not troublemakers, not “racists,” and not looking to start a fight. One of the five kids, Dominic Maciel, was himself of Hispanic heritage.
And the punishment wasn’t an off-the-cuff blunder by some inexperienced teacher; according to NBC,
Galli says he and his friends were sitting at a table during brunch break when the Vice Principal asked two of the boys to remove American flag bandannas that they wearing on their heads and for the others to turn their American flag t-shirts inside-out. When they refused, the boys were ordered to go to the principal‘s office.
“They said we could wear it on any other day, but today is sensitive to Mexican Americans because it’s supposed to be their holiday so we were not allowed to wear it today,” Daniel Galli said.
The boys said the administrators called their t-shirts “incendiary” that would lead to fights on campus.
“They said if we tried to go back to class with our shirts not taken off, they said it was defiance and we would get suspended,” Dominic Maciel, Galli’s friend, said.
So here we have the Principal and the Vice-Principal of an American high school treating the Stars and Stripes as if it was a gang bandanna; even worse, the school administrators took sides in this imaginary US-vs.-Mexico gang fight by allowing the widespread display of Mexican flags on campus but banning (under threat of punishment) any display of the American flag.
NBC quotes a fellow student:
“I think they should apologize cause it is a Mexican Heritage Day,” Annicia Nunez, a Live Oak High student, said. “We don’t deserve to be get disrespected like that. We wouldn’t do that on Fourth of July.”
Disrespected? I’m confused. Aren’t all the students Americans? Who is being disrespected by the display of our shared national flag?

If I wore a british flag shirt to the st paddy day parade on the south side of chicago I would expect to get my ass kicked. Does anyone here think otherwise? Clearly the kids are pricks, but it is there right to wear those shirts, and I am appalled that the were forced home. Bong hits for jesus.
One group of thugs justifies another group of thugs?
Additionally, this is America, not Britain. There’s a big difference between wearing an American flag vs. wearing a British flag while in this country.
Since when does acting patriotic make one a “prick”?
I can’t stress enough that Cinco de Mayo is a fictitious “holiday” created entirely by American beer distributors and bars on some flimsy pretext to sell more beer. Nobody in Mexico has ever celebrated this. It has absolutely nothing to do with Mexico. Anyone who thinks it is some kind of day to celebrate Mexican cultural or ethnic heritage is severely misguided. Not that I’m complaining about another excuse to go out for margaritas
But this is nothing like, say, somebody wearing KKK outfits on MLK day, or Nazi memorabilia on Chanukah, etc.
Not to be confused with Mexican Independence Day, which occurs on September 16 Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for “fifth of May”) is a holiday held on May 5 that commemorates the Mexican army’s unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín.[2][3] It is celebrated primarily in the state of Puebla and in the United States.[4][5][6][7] While Cinco de Mayo sees limited significance and celebration nationwide in Mexico, the date is observed nationwide in the United States and other locations around the world as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride.[8] Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico’s Independence Day,[9] the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico.[10]
I’ll drink to the defeat of the French. But why an American flag is banned in an American School paid with American taxes is really beyond me: I assume the ACLU will vindicate the rights that have been trampled upon.
I don’t know where you get your facts, but its nothing credible. Cinco De Mayo is not a Mexican Holiday it is a Mexican American holiday. When this holiday was created it was suppose to be a Mexican-American pride deal. That is why the day of Mexican Independence wasn’t chosen. Also it is pretty obviouse the kids were doing this in order to creat an action and they did. The school officials dumb for trying to ban the American flag. Even though technically the flag and it’s likeness is not suppose to be worn as cloths, out of courtesy to the flag.
SUPPOSED SUPPOSED, please write with care.
As is “St. Patty’s Day” a holiday that has been hijacked by beer companies! As if anyone really needs an excuse to get stoopid-drunk!
Armondo,
Your response is partially correct. Cinco de Mayo is celebrated in the Mexican state of Puebla in response to a battle won by the young Mexican Nation’s army against the French army in 1862, where a Mexican force of 4500 defeated a superior force of 6000 French soldiers.
However, the rest of Mexico mostly ignores the local celebration. The celebration here in America is a celebration of mostly the Mexican culture and is not the celebration of, as many claim, the Mexican independence day, which is in September.
Armando, you are correct. This “holiday” was a very minor skirmish, not even acknowledged in Mexico. It was created by restaurants and such, in order to boost alcohol sales. These Latino kids, are probably “anchor babies” and therefore, Americans. What is their problem? They may be of Mexican heritage, but they are now Americans, and should start to act like it. I have never liked to see the American flag on clothing, etc., but if an individual doesn’t feel they are disrespectful to what it stands for, they should be allowed to proudly wear it, display it, carry it, fly it in any manner they see fit. And…on any day they feel like it.
If you reread my post you will note that I do not condone the actions of the school. However, I do not think they were being patriotic, I am saying their subjective intent was to cause a ruckus. These are 5 high school boys who planned together to wear something they thought would get a rise out of the Hispanic students. I do not think their subjective intent was to be patriotic. Perhaps you do not remember high school. Whatever their intent I completely support their freedom of speech even if the supreme court would not (see bong hits for jesus). Further my example of the British shirt at the parade could easily have been replaced with Sox apparel at a Yankee’s game. My point was there are always going to be situations where wearing a particular thing might get your a%^ beat in a particular place. Is that right, no. However that is a part of life.
I totally agree with you Brian N, those kids were not wearing those flags in any kind of reverence for lofty patriotic ideals
It’s very possible that was the first time any of them had ever worn outfits like that. While there are some areas of the country with a lot of young people who may wear this type of clothing out of some sort of pride, this is really not something you see often on teenagers in the Bay Area. They did it because they were seeking attention and simply because they are teenagers who thought it would be a fun way to create controversy.
Obviously the moronic school administrators gave these kids exactly what they wanted, more attention than they could have dreamed possible.
Unless these kids had a history of disciplinary problems, I can’t fathom the thought process that went into the decision to suspend them. They should have simply ignored the obvious grab for attention and let them wear their outfits without giving them more attention.
It’s all ridiculous, especially those who are posting flaming comments on here against Obama, against immigrants or Mexican students at the high school, because Cinco de Mayo is an American holiday, absolutely nothing to do with Mexican culture or heritage and the hispanic high school students did not suspend these kids, it was the caucasian principal who did this. I doubt any of the hispanic high school students could care less whether somebody wears an American flag on Cinco de Mayo. If any of them did, they are severely misguided. It would be akin to getting angry at someone for wearing a four leaf clover on Valentine’s Day, or Black Friday, or Mother’s Day, or some other fictitious day created by American businesses to help them drum up business and move products. It is not a Mexican holiday.
You cannot possibly know what the “intent” of these kids was and it is totally irrelevant to the issue. The American flag is an American symbol and the First Amendment prevents the government from interfering with a person’s freedom of expression. Discussions of intent are irrelevant.
You are right I cannot know their intent, but I think it is a good guess. As to their first amendment rights, this is not a violation and you can thank the conservative remembers of court for that. The school is a limited public forum, which means the school only needs a rational basis for its decision. http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/scripts/getcase.pl?court=US&vol=000&invol=06-278. Anyway like I said thank CJ Roberts but the school was not violating anyone’s rights under the constitution. I disagree with the opinion, but what do I know I am just a liberal.
“I doubt any of the hispanic high school students could care less whether somebody wears an American flag on Cinco de Mayo.”
Did you actually read this article? If yes, go back and read it again, and pay closer attention this time.
Anyone that knows history that would care to commit on the Flag Code? If you are really “patriotic” you may have heard of it. Now, it does not impose penalties for misuse of the United States flag. But being good patriotic citizens you’d want to use this handy guide for the handling and deploy of the Stars and Strips, yes?
The Flag Code address the impropriety of using the flag as an article of personal adornment, a design on items of temporary use, and item of clothing. The evident purpose of these suggested restraints is to limit the commercial or common usage of the flag and, thus, maintain it’s dignity.
The 1976 amendments to the Code recognized the wearing of a flag patch or pin on the left side (near the heart) of uniforms of military personnel, firemen, policemen, and members of patriotic organizations.
It’s just a guide… but being “patriotic” and not trying to start something this should have crossed someones mind, eh?
In either case… the boys wearing the colors was in very poor taste and could be considered offensive to any American citizen regardless of the day they choose to wear it.
I believe the ‘caucasian’ official was named Miguel Rodriguez.
Actually, Armando, if you read carefully, you will see that the boys were not suspended. They didn’t want to turn their shirts inside out, so they chose to leave school.
I don’t agree with the actions of the school administrator in this case. These kids weren’t wearing shirts that were obscene or depicted drugs or anything else that is restricted by school dress codes, and they have the right to wear these shirts. However, anyone who remembers high school knows this group of friends didn’t all just *accidentally* happen to throw on all their patriot gear on Cinco de Mayo. They were looking for drama. (What?!? Teenagers looking for drama?!? Who ever heard of such a thing!) And we are rewarding them in spades by putting them in a national spotlight.
By the way, I learned in elementary school that the flag is to be treated with respect, never used for a mundane purpose such as clothing, and burned in a respectful ceremony when it becomes tattered or soiled. Someone should teach these little “patriots” that wrapping it around your sweaty brow as a headband is disrespectful.
It’s an American school in America. Why would there be a ruckus is someone brings a US flag? And if indeed there are some fascist pigs who would attack American people – then these kids provided a valuable service to show this. Isn’t it a good idea to make the public see who is a racist fascistic pig in school, and make this a teaching moment?
Instead, the school admins agreed with racist fascist pigs – which is too a teaching moment.
There would be a ruckus because one group of Americans are trying to tell another group of Americans that because they celebrate their ethnicity, they are less American than the first group. Wouldn’t you be pissed off if someone who could trace their family back to the Mayflower told you that you are less American than them? No one is offended by people wearing American flags/bandannas – they are offended because the people wearing them are trying to give offence.
Did you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day? Go back to Ireland you drunken Irishman – we only want Americans here!
I don’t think they were trying to cause controversy or “a ruckus,” I think they were just trying to be funny. I think they just thought it was clever or something.
My question to you is how does wearing a flag make you “patriotic”? Are these bopys plannng to join the military become police or firefighters? How do they plan to defend, support, or improve America? By causing more racial tension and hate. I suppose some might call hatemongering patriotic but I sure don’t.
well you dont have to go into the military, or be a police officer or fire fighter to be patriotic. just believing in the country and its constitution is enough. helping out in your community, VOTING. being a civil servant is not the only way to be patriotic.
One might cause tension. You don’t cause hate. You only give haters something to focus their hate on. We should be less concerned about youngsters lacking mature outlooks and more concerned about Americans who apparently think they are in Mexico. Why is it that Italian-Americans can be proud of being Americans without losing sight of their old world traditions. I am surrounded by people of Czech, German, Irish, Scottish, Scandinavian heritage and more. None of whom get their knickers in a twist over the Stars and Stripes no matter what say it is. I myself am Mexican, Peruvean, Chinese, German, Scottish, Irish, Dutch, English, Spanish, and Lakota. And I’m all American every day of the week. Diversity is just code for keeping people apart, not bringing them together. Commonality. Give it a shot.
in America, you are allowed to be a prick. Except in the Bay Area, that is a “hate free zone”.
………………….. except for hate America.
equating the south side of chicago with the interior of a public school paid by usa taxes from usa citizens isn’t a proper analogy.
everyone can and should be proud of their roots and genealogy but, if you’re here and want to stay here it should be…”I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of American and to the Republic for which it stands ONE nation under God indivisible with justice and liberty for all.”
We took that out of the classroom and look at what it has become.
I think you mean “…With Liberty and Justice for All.”
If you’re going to be extra-patriotic, at least get the wording right.
Hey I’m as white as they come but I still refused to pledge to the flag and am quite glad they have banned it from public schools. Teaching children to blindly following with out thought and mass indocturing of our youth should be banned. The kids were trying to get a reaction, of course they were. I do not believe the school should have sent them home though. The best education those students could have gotten was the a$$ kicking they were asking for. Just like the hillbilly racists in my school who would wear confederate flags to school. Yes you have freedom of speech but you do not get the freedom to choice the consequences of that speach. If I make an oral agreement can I try to back out of the contract claiming “freedom of speech”? No! When you say certain things it means something and it is quite obvious they were saying F you to the mexican american students.
How is reciting the national anthem indoctrinating kids? The point of the national anthem is to teach kids to respect and honor the country that live in, the country that so many soldiers have died to protect. You are a piece of sh!t. Makes me glad to know that I am putting my life on the line for people like you.
GOD BLESS THE USA
That’s idiotic. If there is anywhere in this country you can get your ass kicked for wearing an American flag, then I have a problem with that.
YEAH… I’m with Brian here, I’ll the bus with him.
So I take it they don’t say the pledge at these schools anymore? Hmm have to check with my kids, they use to say one to the US Flag, then one to the TX flag.
They still say the Pledge to both the US and TX flags in Keller ISD.
As for Cinco de Mayo, it is celebrated primarily in the US Southwest and 1 Mexican province where the victory against the French occurred. It is a marketing tool in the US, I went into Chili’s in Plymouth, MA yesterday and the waiter said it best, “Cinco de Mayo” is a Chili’s Holiday. It’s purpose is Margaritas and Fajitas, also great creations of the United States, specifically Texas.
I think our Irish in Chicago are “over it”, so g’ahead and wear the Union Jack on St. Patricks Day. If it wasnt for British colonial rule, the Irish would be as ass backwards as ________. Same goes for the East Indians. Me thinks it was just a plan to get sent home early; Maciel would look a lot more stressed if it was a genuine protest. Its like enrolling under your last name and adding -berg or -stein at the end hoping to get the J holidays off.
Could you post something coherent next time.
Maybe if you have taken some history lessons, you would know the British being intolerant savages and pirates they are went around the world putting 2 distinct groups of people to extinction the one you are already living,so think about who is really a backward @ss.
Bigot, much?
What, you mean that selfish British expenditure of money throughout most of the 19th century to wipe out slavery and piracy in the world? Yeah, it’s terrible when people are bigoted against slave traders and pirate savages.
The DIFFERENCE is that these kids are on American soil. They are NOT British wearing British flag be able to garments at an Irish parade. You live in America, and if you are proud to be an American, then you should be able to display that!
Are you serious? Why would you expect that? Its thinking like that that keeps racism alive!
Kelly you my dear are a moron, but dont worry you are not alone. And let me tell you we fight for that flag and over hundreds of years died for that flag i dare anyone to tell me not to wear, fly or otherwise honor my countries flag.I would have gotten expelled from that school because i would have spit in that vp face.who by the way was most likely mexican….Why can everyone else be proud, but us as white americans have to carefull or we are racist,i say if thats how it is then i am fine with that….
I AGREE, IT IS NOW A SIN TO BE WHITE AND PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN. WHERE THIS COUNTRY IS GOING REALLY REALLY SCARES ME.
Wearing the American flag on clothing except as a patch over the heart is not patriotic but is a clear violation of the U.S. “Flag Code” and shows great disrespect for the flag. Prior to 1989 you could get a year in prison for wearing the flag in the manner that the boys did. Likewise, flying the U.S. flag on the back of a pickup truck shows great disrespect as the only proper way to display the flag on a motor vehicle is to attach the flag to the right front fender.
“Yes they can.”
You are suffering from fuzzy-headed thinking! How many kids do you think wore Mexican flags that day? Do you contend those wearing Mexican colors in America were somehow noble, while those who wore American colors in America were “pricks”?!!!
Pull your head out and see what this is about! This is about American soveriegnty! This is about American heritage! This is about the noble ideal that anyone can come here legally and succeed or fail on their own merits; all we ask is that they ASSIMILATE! That means learn the language, respect the flag, obey our laws, accept our culture and leave your own country behind; or don’t come!
The “pricks” are those in this country who DEMAND that we embrace THEIR culture, at the expense of ours! They want to IMPOSE their values on us; we don’t want to allow it. Who’s the prick again??!
BTW – Cinco de Mayo is not celebrated in Mexico! It is purely a celebration of the Hispanic sub-culture in America. Mexican independence day is September 16th. (A little education will go a long way!)
I would appear you are replying to my post, however, you do not address anything I said so I am confused. I will speak to your concerns non the less. First, I did not say that or in anyway assert that cinco de mayo was a traditional Mexican holiday. I understand that it is mainly celebrated by bars having drink specials. However, it might hold significance to mexican americans. You think this is about american sovereignty but it is not. You are just looking for the next thing for you to get angry at, no matter how weak the pretext. I am guessing most people come on here to feed their need to be outraged on a daily basis. I do not know what drives that need. I know people on the left did it when bush was in office so it is probably related. This is about some boys who thought it would be wear American flag clothes in the hopes that it would piss some people off, because that is funny. The school, within its rights, although I disagree with the supreme court on this issue, asked the boys to wear the shirts inside out or take the shirts off. These kids could give a shit less about being patriotic.
You are not explaining why would someone be upset at the kids wearing US flag.
Allahu akbar Infidel.
Ya know, what i want to know is? Did the Live Oak assistant principle go through every room in that school building and in front of the school building and remove the American Flag(s) and hide them in his office during the entire Cinco De Mayo.
And if he didn’t, why not? If the sight of an American Flag(s) would incite one student group against another, then we can only assume that the sight of any American Flag(s) in the school building or on the school grounds would have offended those same students and incited violence against the school administration. In that case they should have suspended themselves and sent themselves home, because it is much more appropriate to give in to possible violence than to stand firm and say that NO violence would be tolerated against anyone. Isn’t that what we want our schools to promote and teach our students? NOT
bubblehead- Wow. Really? How ignorant can you be? So basically what you’re saying is that “If you come to America, be one of us or don’t come here at all?” the only one with “fuzzy-headed thinking” is you.
You must have never heard of the melting-pot tradition in this country or e pluribus unum.
Brian N, how are the kids in any way, shape or form behaving as pricks? They did nothing wrong. Any other day of the year the flag shirts wouldn’t cause a problem, but because it’s a Mexican holiday, because they wore their shirts, because they didn’t back down or apologize, they are pricks? Brian N, you’re the prick.
I’ll second that last thought!
All boys this age are “pricks”. They were doing it to make a scene, and it worked. Everyone needs to calm down, just a bit.
…*ahem* Mexico hates us, I have no problem messing with their holiday and also using it to drink. Look at their politics around election time over there if you think they DON’T hate the U.S. Lol, good for those kids.
Your scenario of wearing the Union Jack to a St Paddys Day Parade in Chicago is irrelevant. It’s apples and oranges. Obviously you’re trying to stir up trouble wearing a Union Jack to a St Paddy’s parade. But who cares? That’s a right you have. But you are not a “prick” for wearing anything with a US flag on it in the United States on any day of the year.
I agree with you in theory. You should be able wear the american flag where ever you want. However, whether you are a prick is going to be based on the subjective intent behind the action. What do you think the subjective intent behind five high school boys coordinating wearing American flags on 5 de Mayo. I know it is not a big holiday, but all those who pointed that out are stupid, as the question is whether it is big here. Anyway, I am guessing these boys wore the shirts with the hope that it would piss some people off. I certainly did stuff like that in high school, and I am guessing high school boys have not changed much.
did anyone fail to see that one of the students was Hispanic! OH THE HORROR, so I guess he plotted against his own kind right?
maybe just maybe these kids were doing nothing wrong but wearing a damn shirt with old glory flying proud?
nah.
Not all hispanics are mexican, big-guy.
This is just sickening…. When did this turn into a them vs. us? I am living in AZ and let me tell you, this whole immigration uproar is ridiculous & it makes me wonder if this incident has anything to do with what’s going on in AZ? Our lawmakers are taking care of a problem that should’ve been taken care of by the feds a long time ago.
It pisses me off that I’m living in one of the greatest countries on earth, and this is what we’re reduced to.
Oh and Al Sharpton was here stirring up the pot on Wednesday.
Personally, I’m curious as to what Maciel’s mother specifically meant by (half) Hispanic. Meh. This whole ordeal is just whack. It makes me wish that it didn’t happen so I didn’t have to write a paper about it.
Why would anyone be pissed off? And if indeed some fascists are pissed off – isn’t it a good thing? Isn’t this a teaching moment?
Clearly you don’t understand freedom of speech and any day is a good day to be proud to be American and any day is a good day to display your pride in our country and our flag. These schools leaders need to be disciplined for their actions against these students.
Actually, I understand the freedom of speech very well thank you. That is why I said I thought the kids had the right to wear the shirts if they wanted. However, in actuality a school is considered a limited public form which means the schools actions only need to pass a rational basis. If the school actually believed there was a danger of disruption of the peace then the school was within its legal capacity, but thank you for the lesson. I think what most people here are upset about is that it is ridiculous that wearing an American flag anywhere in this country would lead to a disruption on the peace. I agree with them.
Oh please–spare me. If that same administration on that same day had sent home every student that was displaying a Mexican flag you would frothing at the mouth over such an outrage.
People are getting of Political Correctness, and the people who expect and demand that we believe that the emperor indeed has clothes.
You would do well to actually read what I wrote. I am appalled that the school sent the kids home. I absolutely think they should have the right to wear whatever they want. However, it was withing the schools right to do such a thing. I am also pissed that the school has that right, but that is due to the conservative members of the SCOTUS.
I did read what you wrote, but I can read between the lines.
There is nothing between the lines but you imagination. Keep projecting, whatever makes you feel better. Maybe you could but up an argument based on reality.
What are you talking about? Are you nuts? You are talking about wearing a BRITISH flag in Chicago which I think is still part of the USA. These kids were wearing an AMERICAN flag in AMERICA. See the difference?
It has been established time and time again in courts that schools are not “free speech zones”.
These kids wore these shirts as their statement, obviously intended to disrespect Mexican culture. The school administrators get to choose whether the risk of violence outweighs the rights of the students to show that they like America.
It might come as an absolute shock to people, but America is actually a multicultural country, often referred to as a ‘melting pot’. There are legal immigrants that come from Mexico, and they still respect their homeland. This isn’t a football game where everyone roots for their side, and turning the school into a nationalist pep rally is a bad idea.
“These kids wore these shirts as their statement, obviously intended to disrespect Mexican culture.”
How does an American flag-themed shirt “disrespect” Mexican culture?
Haven’t you heard? America is a Mexican state.
“Melting pot” refers to immigrants taking on identities as Americans above other national identities – when things melt in a pot, they blend together. The national identity and allegience of every immigrant becomes the same – U.S.
I think the term you are groping for is “balkanized,” and you seem to think that it is a good thing. It’s not. Balkanizing our society provides jobs and power for racist con artists and grievance hoarders, but that’s only good for them, not for everyone else. They harm everyone, including the people they purport to help.
By law, the U.S. flag has to be flown higher than any other. There is an excellent and obvious reason for that. Together, we are strong. Divided, we are weak.
Just have to add my two cents worth. First of all, most of you are idiots. Only about 1% of the people commenting on here could even put together a complete sentence, never mind spell anything. Any of you ever heard of a spell checker? Next, last I checked, this IS AMERICA. Land of the Free means that if you don’t like it, you are just as welcome to leave as you are to enter. I live in Texas, which is the only state in the union allowed to fly their flag at an equal height as the American flag. Here in Texas, our students through middle school still say the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States, then to the Republic of Texas every morning at 8:00 am sharp. We raise the American flag and Texas flag at the beginning of school and lower them at the end of school. We teach our kids, regardless of national origin, the meaning of the flags we raise, and we stay proud of that fact. Texas is a major melting pot for Mexican immigrants, legal or otherwise. We don’t care, we deal with it. For the most part, we don’t ask the government for help with this, and in fact, most of the time, it’s the government cramming their crap down our throats. We fought to the end the ‘GREAT’ (but completely worthless) wall of Mexico, as we do for most other stuff the US government warrants. We will defend our right to display the flag as we see fit to the death, and that includes boys wearing t-shirts with them to school. If the flag offends you, you need to move somewhere where you won’t have to worry about it. Choose your poison, move there, and enjoy your choice. Anything you say against that WILL offend me, but that is your right as an American citizen. For the record, my inheritance come directly from Pre-Nazi Germany, but I consider myself a pure American. I was born here in Denver, CO., I was raised here (for most of my life), and this is where I call home. If you want to be proud of your heritage, that’s great, go for it, but if you want to call yourself a citizen of a country, I don’t care what country it is, move to that country, and by all means, love that country with all your heart and soul and stand up for it and for what it stands for. I know I do.
America is a melting pot, all right, but we _do_ have a common culture as Americans, exemplified by a Pledge of Allegiance, patriotic songs, and yes, an American flag.
If these kids meant to disrespect Mexicans, as you assert, then wouldn’t they have directly addressed some part of Mexican culture that was on display? And they did not.
I was looking at some of those May Day “rallies”. What I saw were flags with pictures of CHE GUEVARRA, the Cuban coward mass murderer until the first time he met a man who actually had a gun also, then the coward begged for his life. I also saw the HAMMER AND SICKLE flags of the former USSR. An “immigrant” are my deceased in-laws , who came to the USA LEGALLY from the Phillipines in the late 1940s and ASSIMILATED. The INVADERS from Mexico and other Latin American countries are CRIMINALS who are breaking our laws and have NO DESIRE to assimilate. As Michelle Malkin rightly asks-WHOS COUNTRY IS IT, ANYWAY???????
Have you been an idiot all of your life?
I am sorry did I hurt your feelings. I take it all back. I did not know you were so sensitive. Why don’t you try attacking my premise if you are so smart.
The Mexican students wearing Mexican flag shirts “obviously intended to disrespect” American culture. Sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.
Yeah—and if the administration had decided that there would have been no symbols displayed of Cinco de Mayo because it would have been devisive you would have concurred with them, right? Bullshit.
You cannot say they were not aware of what they were doing.
I agree that it is wrong to not let them wear the shirts, however the kids were going in to make a statement and push buttons, regardless if its the american flag or another symbol.
Why do liberals hate the American flag? It’s okay to burn the flag, that’s protected by the First Amendment. Displaying the American flag, that’s makes one a “prick” who deserves to be assualted. Liberals/leftists/Progressives are America hating, traitorous scum. Brian is an excellent example of such self loathing filth.
Wow, way to put words in the guy’s mouth. Where did Brian declare his political allegiance in his post again?
He did NOT say that ANYONE deserved to be assaulted. He EXPECTED it. The same way I EXPECTED Brian to get attacked for his post by jerks who read half of what is written in the name of politicizing everything even though he didn’t DESERVE it.
Your precious flag (and I say ‘your’ because I am a filthy godless NON-AMERICAN, so CLEARLY my opinion is of no relevance here) is a SYMBOL and it is one that these kids chose to exploit in the name of to stirring up controversy. Doesn’t that make you proud to be an American?
“…so CLEARLY my opinion is of no relevance here….” You are right, so STFU.
Ahahahahahaha. Oh, you.
Actually, Scott, by your own standards your opinion counts for nothing and you should be forced to leave… not because you are from somewhere other than the US, but because your comments are clearly intended to provoke (unlike the kids in questions, who can only be assumed to have that intent based on projection — nothing they said or did indicated such). So there you go; feel free to spew your anti-American viewpoint more, unless you have some desire to avoid hypocrisy.
Hoo boy, here we go.
“Actually, Scott, by your own standards your opinion counts for nothing and you should be forced to leave…”
Kindly explain where I said that anyone’s opinion counted as nothing, and where I said anyone should be forced to leave. For the record I’m with Brian N and the original writer here–they should never have been told to leave in the first place.
“because your comments are clearly intended to provoke”
Kindly explain where I said that other people provoking is bad.
“So there you go; feel free to spew your anti-American viewpoint more,”
I’m not anti-American, I’m anti-ignorance. The fact that I’m responding to a person who happens to be ignorant about matters pertaining to a specific country is coincidental.
“unless you have some desire to avoid hypocrisy.”
I’m apparently an anti-american who ordered that people who provoke should be forced to leave and their conditions considered invalid. I have no idea where you have divined this information based on my post. If you want to avoid hypocrisy, I’d start with not accusing other people of projecting.
People want to come here to enjoy our freedoms, so stop trying to take them away. Your damn right I would wear an American flag shirt everyday, regardless of what day, month, week, year whatever. I’m an American and damn proud of it, you all should be too!!!
Nothing wrong with waht these young men did. And if i wanted to cause a ruckus, I’d have worn a “Remember the Alamo” t-shirt. It’s long past time to stop apologizing for America and what it used to stand for. This beer manufacturer’s holiday celebrates what? The fact that we’ve become the de facto welfare departmnet for a corrupt and on-the-brink-of-failure state like Mexico?
And who’s going to be ‘upset’ besides bed-wetting multi-culti libs like that assistant principal? The MECHA and La Raza thug kiddies?
Brian, you’ve obviously bought into this PC crap. As an American of Mexican heritage I can honestly tell you this is beyond stupid. First, as the writer said this is a small holiday in Mexico. This holiday is hyped here in the US to promote alcohol sales.
Second, you pledge allegiance to the United States of America not Mexico. Anyone that wants to pledge allegiance to Mexico is more than welcome to apply for citizenship (or return) to Mexico.
Third, it is insulting and it’s scary that people like the Vice-Principal and Principal are in charge of educating our kids. They ascribe hoodlum behavior automatically to Hispanic kids without giving them the benefit of doubt, as if they are unthinking animals.
You are an IDIOT.
The Vice Principal’s name is Miguel Rodriguez and can be reached at Miguel.Rodriguez@mhu.k12.ca.us and the Principal at Nick.Boden@mhu.k12.ca.us
You know what wouldn’t get your ass beat at a St. Patrick’s Day Parade? Wearing an American Flag T-Shirt.
Brian, you are … silly.
This is a USA. The kids home. This is were they live and they are proud of these country. Celebrating Sinco de Maya is fine, no problems there. I’m very happy for those who celebrate this holiday, but I ware my colors.
And so are they, these right, these privilege. And you are an idiot. Respectfully, of course.
Brian,
You are much more likely to get your ass kicked on the Southside of Chicago because of who you are (a person who says only pricks wear the American flag), than for wearing the British flag.
Thanks for the advice, but I never said that. Ever square is a rectangle but not ever rectangle is a square. Anyway what is 4 miles long and has a collective I.Q. of 400?? The Saint Patrick’s day parade. I have spent a lot of time at the south side parades and have yet to get my ass kicked.
Brian N,
I wear orange on St. Patrick’s Day, does that make me a prick? About as many people understand the significance of that, as would understand wearing a French flag on Cinco de Mayo.
I don’t believe for an instant that those kids were being patriotic, in fact, I’m sure they were being dissidents, but so what? If it were up to me, schools from k-12 would go back to uniforms. I’m sick of the bullcrap with people personal statements, but if I have to put up with bong hits for Jesus, or whatever, then those of Mexican dissent can suck it up that someone wears an American flag in front of them on their fake Mexican holiday. Oh, the horror. If someone is attacked for wearing an American flag on Cinco de Mayo, they should be charged with a hate crime, since California is so big on hate crime legislation.
On top of all that, as has been said before, Cinco de Mayo commemorates one battle of the Mexicans over the French. The one battle they happened to win before the French took over for the next four years. Further, Benito Juarez, was a republican, that’s with a small ‘r’ for those of you who don’t habla. He was trying to remove foreigners from Mexico, and stymie the power of the Catholic Church of Mexican affairs. He was aided by our own government in the form of “lost rifles.” So, I find it very amusing that the commemoration of a battle that occurred in Mexico to oust foreign influence is championed by invaders to this country, who are upset at seeing the flag of the country that helped them. That is colossal ignorance if there ever was some.
I get the Scottish reference, and thank you for the history lesson. . Do you wear the orange in hopes of pissing people off, if so they yeah it does make you a prick. That was easy. You clearly failed to read my earlier comment, and did not do you research on the first amendment, which is suprising me based on your history rant. The SCOTUS found against bong hits for jesus. It was an opinion written by Roberts. Anyway, it does not matter if you think people should wear uniforms that is up tot the school districts. Thank you Come Again.
No, you didn’t get the Scottish reference. The orange refers to William of Orange, who defeated James II in the Battle of the Boyne in 1690 and ended the Stuart dynasty.
The two administrators should be fired and charged with felony level hate crime and sentenced to 5000 hours of community service in a VA hospital.
Americans pay their salary not mexicans. Your suppose to be an American Citizen to be in High School in America. The Arizona law needs to focus on every family, til no oen will dare violate AMERICAN SOIL. Either, we have a country or we don’t. The Border is a Lawful boundary and needs to be enforced or all Taxes need to stop being collected.
How is wearing an American flag to an American school in America wrong. It doesn’t matter what day they wear it on. They aren’t pricks. People are tired of everything becoming an extension of mexico in California.
That’s nothing the same. The United States didn’t fight for it’s independence from Mexico. and obviously you know the long, brutal history of the Republic of Ireland gaining the independence it has today. hundreds and hundreds of years of fighting. The absolute tryanny and digusting treatment the english did to the irish. obviously you recognize the fact that Irish do not react well to that. I would love to wear an american-irish shirt on St. Patrick’s day because I am not just Irish. I am also an american. and there is a nationalism that no can match. We are always patriotic. I don’t mind people wearing Mexican flags, puerto rican, brazilian, dutch, german, swedish, italian flags. We are all americans here. That is what america is! a melting pot. To say you are a “prick” for being patriotic, leads me to think you are the one who is because you can’t stand behind people who give things like social security, welfare, RIGHTS, oh and yeah FREEDOM.
You’re a moron. Being patriotic in America should be justified and encouraged EVERYDAY, with no exceptions. America gives a lot to Mexican-Americans by celebrating Cinco de Mayo. Notice, they are American too and they too should be patriotic. This IS NOT MEXICO and thus, I am free to wear whatever the hell I want. If I want to paint my face red, white, and blue on Cinco de Mayo, NO ONE is going to stop me.
“Clearly the kids are pricks…”? Well, maybe that’s clear to those who can’t keep their homonyms straight, but not to the rest of us. (Brian, maybe you get your ass kicked for other reasons than your tshirt, you know what I’m sayin’?)
What a dreadful story. It used to be a joke that multiculturalism meant all cultures were worth honoring except our own; now it’s just the news.
If the mexican students are offended by the American flag, they can go back to their beloved country and celebrate the mexican flag every day. Get out. Now.
Just curious….does the school fly an American flag? If so did they replace it with a Mexican flag or take it down all together that day?
This sir, is a great question. I don’t understand why in the world Americans would get offended about wearing American clothing? It doesn’t matter what we wear, we should NOT be scared in our own country. Yes, those kids wore those shirts purposely, but good for them. They are the leaders that America needs. We are not a country built on push overs, we are built on free thinkers and people for freedom. If there is ANYONE in this country that gets offended about the flag, well then you are under the wrong one buddy.
“We don’t deserve to be get disrespected like that. We wouldn’t do that on Fourth of July.”
—-
Hmm, I seem to recall a lot of pictures of demonstrators doing just that.
Furthermore, the Hispanic student’s don’t have the opportunity to “do that on Fourth of July” because most schools aren’t in session during the summer!
We hosted an exchange student from Mexico(Sonora) last year. She didn’t even know what Cinco de Mayo was about. She told us “I think it’s some kind of regional thing in Puebla.” Oh and BTW, I used to wear my British flag T-shirt on St. Patrick’s Day in my Boston-area high school and nobody kicked my skinny ass.
It is INSANE that these kids were punished for wearing American flag clothing. This is America and it is appropriate every day to be a patriotic American. If other students find the American flag so provocative that they would start a fight over this, THEY are the ones who need to be disciplined.
Cara C, I agree, agree, agree. Thank God for some teens willing to stand up for the USA. Also agree with thought “Did the school fly the American flag and was the Pledge of Allegiance spoken on May 5″? Now that the Proncopal’s name and email are outed he’s in for some misery. Watch for an apology and retraction of discipline from him and the school.
Brian, your point has no merit. The kids were wearing an American flag in America. Why do you consider them “pricks” for doing so? Why should anyone be banned from doing that on any day of the year? There is a big difference between what they did and wearing a foreign flag during a different foreign country’s holiday. Also, please learn the difference between “there” and “their”.
Apples and oranges, Brian N. Chicago is neither Britain nor Ireland. If you want to draw comparison there, it would be to being in London and wearing a British flag t-shirt on St. Patrick’s day – would you expect *that* to be a problem? Would you expect British teachers and school administrators to demand that a British student not wear the British flag shirt on St. Patrick’s day? Of course not; that would be ridiculous. How about this – what if kids in Belfast wore t-shirts with the Irish flag on them to school, but on a British holiday – think their administrators would discourage it? Of course not; that, too, would be ridiculous. But that’s precisely what’s happening in this story; citizens of this country being griefed for wearing their own country’s flag simply because of a ‘holiday’ in a neighboring country.
No Irish person would kick someone’s ass for the shirt they are wearing. unlike hispanics, they have evolved.
Have you confirmed that with the British? ;*)
Oh, really?
Have you hung out with Irish rugby players because I would disagree.
Good for them. The only prick I see here is Brian N. This is America…not Mexico so get over it!
DISRESPECTED….????
are these kids that stupid….???
what country are they in….???
what country did they leave because they couldn’t live a decent life…???
what country is GIVING them everything they need…???
what country did they live in fear in…???
after asking themselves those question, and giving themselves the correct answer, they should then be kissing the American flag every day of their stupid lives…. May 5th should be a reminder to them of a country that was violent and corrupt, and a place they’d never want to go back to… instead, they insult the country that allows them FREEDOM………
how much can these kids suck…???
Are they that stupid?
Yes. Yes, they are.
Brian N: “Clearly the kids are pricks”?
Are you out of your mind or just a poorly placed troll?
I assure you that I have seen blacks, Latinos, and people from other countries who have :::gasp::: worn colors or symbols representative of their heritage on July 4th, Memorial Day, Veteran’s Day, Presidents’ Day, and any other holiday. So what?
It’s their right to wear what they want.
I don’t see how the kids are pricks. They didn’t wear anything with a derogatory message toward Mexico, so what’s the problem?
Since when is Cinco de Mayo any kind of special day in America. 90 percent of American give a rip about it. The principal and and vice-principal should both be fired.
If Chicago were part of the UK, I could see the relevancy of your comment. Since it’s not, it’s just you being antagonistic and distorting and already ugly issue. That is, displaying national pride in front of illegal immegrants is punishable by authorities (I dare anyone to deny that a principle is an ‘authority’ over his students!) in our own country.
We have a serious problem when those running the schools don’t know what country they are in. If ever there was a reason to institute school vouchers so parents could use their tax money to send their kids to a real school instead of a government indoctrination center run by socialists, this is it.
The scary thing is the teachers and administrators all went to the same schools that taught them this touchy-feely nonsense so they all think the same. I would yank my kids out of that school system so fast .
At no time, under any circumstances, should displaying an American flag on American soil, be cause for reprimand.
This incident shows how out of control things are.
Some day San Fransicko will become the 57th state…
Until now let them be the refugee home for illeagle imagrants.
Funny how the same people who will decry a law they don’t like for its “potential” to infringe on civil liberties have no qualms with actually infringing the civil liberties of those they disagree with. I hope the kids families sue for violation of 1st Ammendment rights.
Absolutely brilliant point.
Wrong. There is no way they can win that suit.it is because of the consevative nature of the current Scotus. I assume all of you came out in support of bong rips for jesus kid because that kind of case cuts both ways.
Unfortunately for your argument the flag-wearing kids have specific rights under California law which the vice-principal clearly violated.
If the Principal and VP were smart they should have sighted Federal Flag code CRS 6-8-d. The flag should not be worn as clothing, etc.
Why don’t we just change the name of our country from The United States of America to Northern Mexico. The people of this country have no more patriotism for America. They have plenty for Mexico and other countries, but not America so let’s just give our country away. Americans have become weak, unpatriotic liberal whimps and the men and women who were the greatest generation in 40s and 50s are very disappointed.
Ethnic groups are fine – racists groups like MEcha are not . We are Americans here . If you want to be an Irish American or a Mexican – American, that’s fine . And ask yourself, BTW. Would a person in an Irish parade care
if someone wore clothing with the American flag on it ? No -they wouldn’t because they think of themselves as Americans of Irish descent – not Irish who were setting up some kind of Irish state within America. They would be happy about it, because they loved and appreciated this country .
Either except and owe allegiance to the United States of America or move somewhere else . The ingratitude of some of these people is just beyond belief . They receive free
schooling ( $ 9,000 per child per year in elementary school ) free school lunches, free food stamps, free hospital care ( thousands of dollars ) free clinic care, free Aid to Dependent Children ( $ 3,000 per child per year ) ,
from hard pressed Anglos who are struggling just to make ends meet and they have the nerve to COMPLAIN ??
This is a total bunch of crap.
ALL of those “administrators” should be fired and fired NOW. Doesn’t the school FLY the American Flag, they do HERE, every day school is open, THERE is the AMERICAN FLAG, the FLAG OF THE GREATEST COUNTRY in the world, well, at least it WAS until morons like these people turned it into a trash hole.
AMERICAN CITIZEN- You know what? Yeah, I’ll admit, America is a trash hole. Only because we have ignorant white trash like you.
The principal is Nick Boden.
His email is nick.boden@mhu.k12.ca.us

Thanks for the princples email address.
Fox News reports:
“In a statement released on Wednesday, the Morgan Hill Unified School District said it did not agree with the school’s actions.
“In an attempt to foster a spirit of cultural awareness and maintain a safe and supportive school environment, the Live Oak High School administration took certain actions earlier today,” the statement read. “The district does not concur with the Live Oak High School administration’s interpretation of either board or district policy related to these actions.”"
So it seems that the District is not supporting the LVHS administrators who did this. Good for them for having common sense.
“We don’t deserve to be get disrespected like that. We wouldn’t do that on Fourth of July.”
Um, why is she equating Cinco de Mayo to the 4th of July? Maybe VJ Day, but certainly not Independence Day. I get the feeling this twit doesn’t even know the significance of Cinco de Mayo and what it celebrates.
As a veteran of years in a California high school classroom–in a heavily latino district and teaching Spanish–I can absolutely vouch for that fact: I would wager that around 90-95% of my students–the latino students–had NO idea what Cinco de Mayo was even commemorating.
Most thought it was “Mexican Independence Day” (September) and vehemently asserted that it was even when shown otherwise.
Yeah, what would be offensive would be wearing a T-shirt with the French flag on it on Cinco de Mayo. But since nobody, not even hispanics, realize that Cinco de Mayo commemorates a victory over the French, it would go right over everyone’s head.
Excuse me, but CINCO DE MAYO is NOT an AMERICAN holiday, so WHY are we “celebrating” it in our schools in the first place?
Because the kid is an idiot and has not been taught proper history. Instead I would bet she has been taught about the evils of capitalism, white people, and how global warming is man-made and America is going to destroy the earth.
I’m a proud anglo and I know it was a victory over the french in one battle. It’s not evan celebrated in all of Mexico. In fact I have had people tell me most of Mexico does not evan celebrate this day. Never should someone be told not to wear or display an American flag. As for not wearing apparel with the flag on it, I think it’s out dated rule.
I think the more valid comparison would be, “Would I get my ass kicked for wearing an American flag on St Patrick’s day?” The answer here would be no.
Those administraitors should be fired, just to remind the rest of the morons who is paying them. The misspelling is intentional.
wonderfully put.
Brian N sounds like an idiot.
I lived in Morgan Hill CA for about 30 years. It was a great town, but it has changed. My daughter graduated from Live Oak in the late 70′s. It was not known for gang violence, but everyone basically had to associate with a group.
The school authorities are as in all schools, politically correct idiots.
The idiot that “doesn’t want to be disrespected,” must have forgot that she’s an AMERICAN citizen. These people are laying the groundwork for a civil war in this country.
There is no room for loyalty to another flag first in this country.
What makes you think the idiot who “doesn’t want to be disrespected” is an AMERICAN citizen? It’s California…maybe yes, good chance NO!
So wait, you can’t display an American flag in America to Americans on a particular day because their parents were from another country?
WHAT?
No matter what day it is, it’s an important day to somebody, somewhere. By the principle’s “logic”, this means that you could never wear the American flag, on the off chance that you offend someone.
Excellent point about other ethnic holidays and displaying the national flag. Regarding this quote from a student cited by Zombie:
“We knew it was Cinco de Mayo. But we just came to show our flag,” said student Dominic Maciel. “We didn’t mean anything by it. We didn’t want to start anything. Nothing like that.”
Bunk. I don’t think any of use are that far removed from high school that we don’t recall how guys that age can think: they did it not only out of American pride but also to annoy the “Mexican pride” group. Maciel is being disngenuous and playing a minor victim card.
That said, the school administration was way out of line; haven’t they heard of the first amendment? And Zombie is spot on about the deleterious effects of identity politics.
Yeah, we can’t just take their words for it that they were showing their national pride. The evidence clearly show that… well, that they were doing just what they said. Then again, who are you going to believe, your prejudices or your lying eyes?
“Maciel is being disngenuous and playing a minor victim card.”
If you’d done your homework, you’d know that Dominic’s father is Mexican. Perhaps the only “ruckus” he was trying to raise here was showing that his American-ness trumped what was before the hyphen in his heritage. To me, that’s a perfectly justifiable thumb in the eye of those here who would put allegiance to another nation ahead of allegiance to America.
It’s perfectly OK to celebrate our differences; it’s when we allow those differences to define us that problems occur.
This is an outrage!! The principal should have punitive action taken against him/her for this. If they mexicans were offended, too bad; this is The USA not Mexico! They should have been the ones who were sent home if they were saying there might be violence. We should all email the Morgan Hill superintendant and tell him this is an outrage and that we want action taken to support the USA, not mexico! The superintendent is Dr. Wesley Smith, his email is: wes.smith@mhu.k12.ca.us
Last I looked, we live in a country known as the United States of America (USA). Under our Constitution and upheld by the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS), speech in any form is RIGHT protected from Government interference. This boys were taking advantage of that uniquely American RIGHT and the Government (in the form of the PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM) forced them into a collectivist attitude that permits other (legal and illegal) immigrants to celebrate their country of birth. That’s wrong on so many different levels. Where’s the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton to protest this egregious action?
Bueller? Bueller?
As to Saint Patrick’s Day – remember St. Patrick was a Welsh boy kidnapped by Irish raiders and taken back to Ireland. Even when he escaped and returned to Wales, he longed for Ireland and went back. No, he didn’t chase all the reptilian snakes (there is some question about Roman clergy) out of Ireland, he converted an entire country to Christianity (not bad for a good Welsh boy). What we celebrate on St. Patrick’s Day is no where close to the reality. Ireland, Scotland and England were Orthodox Christian countries prior to the arrival of St. Augustine.
First off I would just like to say bravo on writing this article. It is very well formatted and definitely well thought out.
I believe that you are correct when you talked about how these kids should not be disciplined for their actions. There is nothing wrong with being prideful about where you live or about being an american. I would also just like to point out that if Hispanics were to wear their flag on fourth of July I don’t think there would be many Americans here that would care. They might think you are crazy or weird…but there wouldn’t really be much controversy about it.
My thought process about this whole thing is, why is it such a big deal to wear a shirt on a as you put it (minor Hispanic holiday, seeing as how you are correct about the Mexican Independence date). Also, these kids that are also saying that they are offended really just need to have a wake up call…they live in AMERICA, and when they were born, they were either born in Mexico and then had to have papers filled out to be legalized in the U.S.A or they were born on U.S.A ground. Both of these mean that they are now Americans, just because they are different in ethnicity does not make them less or more American than any of us.
This country like you said is filled with many different ethnicities and cultures that all (for the most part) get along with each other in harmony and peace. There is also no law of any kind that says we can’t wear an American flag on Cinco de Mayo, and why would there be? We live in America! There would never be such law enforced…so what gives this priciple the right to enforce this law, regarless if he/she is American or not.
In conclusion I think that the kids were completely within their boundaries to wear an American flag in America. I also think that the principle should re-evaluate how she handles these situations and to remember that whether he/she is American or not…that this is America and we are in our rights to wear an American flag whenever the heck we want. I believe that it’s classified under freedom of speech because we are displaying our flag.
Actually the Hispanic students are disrespecting the country they live in and from which they are getting an education.
This country needs to stop the hyphenated American garbage (ie: Mexican-American,Irish American,Asian-American). Its understood to all of us that we have lineage/bloodlines dating back to our country of origin, however we are here, not there anymore. As citizens born here or citizens nationalized, we are all Americans.
Furthermore, while its an extreme description of national unity; if a 5 megaton nuke lands squarely on a major American city from a foreign threat, we are all very much, American citizens – it’s a shame you need an incredible catastrophe to unify people as witnessed on 9-11.
Yet, thanks to the leftist game of identity politics, even a catastrophe can be overcome……..in time. And here we are, back to square one; back to empowering and encouraging divisive behavior all thanks to the progressive, radical leftists and their dangerous games.
I SO agree with you about the hyphenated American garbage! When someone asks me, or my children, what nationality we are, we ALWAYS respond “I’m an American”. Everyone has a background, but these days, fewer and fewer need to utilize the hyphen.
Take them to court – not for free speech -the school can call that disruption -but for discriminatory punishment. Every student in America ought to either wear old glory on May 5th or refuse to go to school on that day.
I wonder if the ACLU will sue the school and force them to back down?
the aclu has already sued Live Oak in the passed. They sued on behalf on some idiot students who said they were disrespected because they were gay. The settlement required all students in the Morgan Hill School district go through training on homosexual sensitivity. My high school age childrent went to private school instead of Live Oak at that point
I live in Morgan Hill and plan to wear my US flag shirt today. Next week I am traveling to Arizona and plan to come back with an Arizona shirt to wear!!!
To all Americans…
EVERYDAY, display the flag in some way… fly the flag at your home, at your business, wear a flag pin, wear a patriotic T-shirt, put a decal on your car… use stamps that show the US flag or the Purple Heart… Support AmVets, the American Legion, the VFW, your local V.A. Hospital.
Take OUR country back, one person at a time, one home at a time, one town at a time…
Those folks who are afraid of displaying the flag (no matter what the day is) are Americans in Name Only (AINOS)… let the puns begin…
Hats off to these kids. No se pueden la reconquista.
First of all, the 5th of May is not a holiday in Mexico, and never has been. It’s more of a corporate made holiday in the United States to push Mexican beer and other products. Never in the United States history have we seen something as stupid as we see now. Our flag is never to be submissive to another country, another culture, or to another flag. In the United States of America, our flag trumps all others. Ah, but that was then and now is now. Now we must submit to other countries and other cultures. We don’t have a country anymore, hell, we have those who say foriegn illegal alliens have rights that trump our own laws, trump our own citizens. How’s “Change” working out for all of you?
This sorry state of things was already the case before Mr. “Change” Obama became President.
You’re an idiot!!! why does everyone blame the current president for a problem that has been brought about by current and past administrations!?!?!? plus this blame the other political party because it’s us versus them is completely stupid. quit treating politics (political parties) as your favorite sports team.
Though this isn’t directly his fault, you have to admit, Obama is doing what he can to whip up the division. He’s clearly chosen sides in this debate over illegal immigration, and (once again), he’s not on the side of most Americans. His sympathies always seem to be with foreigners.
Why is that, do you suppose?
We live in The Age of Idiocy!
HAVE TO AGREE WITH YOU HERE – IS THIS NOT AMERICA?
I do question the principal’s & vice principal’s patriotism. Not merely unAmerican, but anti-American.
How many Americans, were murdered in 2008 by illegal aliens ?
1) Zero, they come here with smiles on their faces and flowers in their hair,
2) 1,
3) 2,
4) 2,185
A cookie to the radical America hating liberal lunatic with the correct answer !
HINT:The figure is just under all Americans, killed in the Spanish-American War .
A: That number has no statistical backing
B: How many murders are committed by legal residents in the US each year? (over 16,000)
Anyway…
“Mexican heritage day” yeah right the Mexicans don’t even do anything for Cinco de Mayo. And if someone wore a Mexican flag on the 4th of July I wouldn’t care one bit. Don’t think anyone would give a crap, actually. Just a case of some school administrators making up imaginary rules and infringing on First Amendment rights. Not sure why the kids felt like they had to wear American flags on some dumb Mexican holiday. Probably they were trying to start some crap and they definitely succeeded at that. But I’m way more offended by the school that told them to take it off.
Fact: if illegals hadn’t broken the law in the first place, they would not be in the US to commit any crimes, let alone murder.
The actual estimates are 2000-3000 american citizens PER YEAR are being MURDERED at the hands of illegal aliens. Illegal aliens happen to be up to 1/3 of the inmates in our Federal prisons. I happen to live in Maricopa county, Az and my son-in-law is a deputy sheriff here. He said last week over 2/3 of the arrests in Maricopa county since 2002 when he first was deputized are ILLEGALS, including virtually ALL the drug and kidnapping arrests. He told me without illegals you would not have much of a crime problem here since most of the other population is retirement age.
How many Americans were killed by American citizens? Let’s just deport everybody.
Whose country is this?
I agree with the post above suggesting that this principal and vice principal should be handed pink slips.
What garbage! This is the USA, not Mexico. “Might” hurt some feelings? That is their problem! Morons all!
CA schools are run by a bunch of cowards, lazy bureaucrats who exploit the Education Code, particularly the Zero tolerance policy to bully students and sooth their egos. Kudos to these students for standing up for their country and belief. Kudos to their parents for supporting them. And kudos to you for bringing it to public attention when mainstream news do not for fear of losing market share and votes for the politicians they support.
Did the school fly the American or Mexican flag that day. If the latter I think all funding for them should stop.
Showing the U.S. flag is always appropriate. As far as I’m concerned everyday is Independence Day here (as we seem to be having to reaffirm it daily in our present society). And what is it with California? They seem inordinately aggressive in taking away all personal liberties—from plastic bags to Happy Meals.
Free the Live Oak Five! What a happy blessing to find more American teenagers who aren’t intellectually stunted and politically brainwashed. Many thanks to the citizens who raised these young patriots.
I can’t believe that these kids were kicked out of school for wearing an American flag in AMERICA! What is wrong with these teachers? There are plenty of good unemployed teachers out there now, maybe it is time to replace the ones at this school.
It would possibly be more of an ass kicking event if some high school kids in Mexico wore French flagged T-shirts…..any kids in high schools in this country who think they are disrespected by others honoring their country, well, perhaps they should just start heading South.
If by their logic “it is a sensitive day for Mexican Americans” so you can’t wear t-shirts with the American flag, the flag waving on the pole in front of the school should of been taken down. Well it probably wasn’t but will next year im sure. Thats the way we are heading.
Disgusting act by the school officials.
No flag comes before the US Flag.
Period.
Worried about fights?
Too bad.
The problem is not flags; it’s people who live here, but are loyal to another nation, and people who live here and are too stupid and cowardly to face the facts.
Jeez, people. From where I sit here in Puerto Rico, this is ridiculous. La gente que hablan español tienen que aprender inglés y vivir como lo de más. Y con tiempo, cuando vean que no tienen oportunidad, lo harán. [Translation: The people who only speak Spanish have to learn English and live like everyone else. And with time, they will, when they realize that there's no opportunity]. End translation. Here in Puerto Rico, there is a stark difference between people who speak English and those who only speak Spanish. The people who speak both languages have all the opportunity, money, and power. But if all you speak is Spanish, Lord help your immortal soul. Those people live in nasty, hot barrios where they sell drugs and shoot each other (more than 300 murders so far this year.) That’s why parents sacrifice to send their kids to English-speaking schools. And this place STARTED as a Spanish country. So don’t worry: As soon as the younger immigrants get sick of living in poverty like their stubborn “La Raza” parents, they will learn English and join the mainstream. Stop foaming at the mouth, people.
PR too, bro. And for what it’s worth, you’re wrong.
http://www.parapundit.com/archives/002109.html
The gist? Fourth-generation Americans from Mexican immigrant families are essentially no better off than first-generation immigrants. Here in AZ there are tons of examples of neighborhoods with 5th and 6th generation families that still have to send their kids to ESL.
I smell a lawsuit
I hope they sue. Big time 1st Amendment suit here.
If they did it just to be in the faces of the Mexicans on their holiday, the right thing was done. It’s a school safety issue.
If they wear American flags much of the time and they were just coincidentally all sitting together on Cinco de Meyo (and hell froze over), they should be left alone and the Hispanics should get over it.
I wasn’t going to say anything, because I felt that it was all said rather well from the people in support of the Live Oak Five, but I have to say something now. HOW DARE THEY DISRESPECT THE FLAG OF OUR COUNTRY WHILE ON OUR SOIL? I am a 5 year, 2 month, and one war (Gulf) Air Force vet. I don’t care WHO it offends – the American flag should NEVER bring shame on its own soil. EVER. Don’t like it? Go home.
This is the United States. This is a high school in the United States – the “Mexicans” (assuming you mean students of Hispanic and/or Mexican descent) are not in Mexico, and have NO right to be offended, or act on any presumed offense. This is tolerance? This is progress? Our schools are failing miserably if students have these racist, anti-American, narcissistic attitudes towards someone with whom they disagree.
Ummmm, what country do all those high school kids live in??? If I’m not mistaken it is AMERICA.
I was surprised when working in Mexico that, other than the beach resorts filled with tourists, I had to go to work. I think it was a bank holiday and that was about it. The battle of Puebla was not a battlefield victory so much as a loss in which the Mexicans showed that that could fight in an organized manner and retreat to fight again.
A sidelight
About a week ago, the statistics for newspaper circulation came out and the SF Chronicle continues to plunge. In this morning’s Chronicle, there is absolutely no coverage of this story. They simply disappear the news. There are plenty of articles on non local stuff, mostly reported via the wire agencies that one gets online and for which there is no reason to buy a local paper. No matter where you stand on immigration, the public school system, freedom of speech, etc., this is a huge human interest story but the editors simply pretend nothing happened.
This makes my effing blood boil! What the hell is going on in this country? I am of Italian/Irish descent, and I have a lot of pride for my nationalities. But I am an American first. To say that you deserve an apology because you feel you were disrespected because someone else wore an AMERICAN flag is absolutely ludicrous. If you have so much pride in your heritage that you put that above the country you are living in then you should move to that country. But don’t try and change this one. I think people are getting more and more fed up with this PC crap. It’s time to take our country back from the people who want to change it. These boys are all patriots. God bless you all for standing up for your country.
All I can say is that I hope this story has some legs. It’s time to decide which side you are on. Either be an American or pack your bags. Of course I am also speaking to elected officials.
All this does is anger White Americans who were on the fence. Stupid move by a latino vice principal.
Mexicans need to be very very careful how they handle this. Here in New Mexico – the airwaves are filled with anger that Arizona illegals are swamping our state.
Just because people are Hispanic does NOT mean they are sympathetic to illegal immigration. Lots of Latinos here want the border SEALED.
Indeed-most LEGAL AND AMERICAN BORN Hispanics agree-THEY DONT WANT THE ILLEGALS HERE EITHER. THIS IS WHAT THEY CAME TO AMERICA TO GET AWAY FROM IN THE FIRST PLACE. Its the politicians and the communist front groups like LARAZA, THE ACLU, THE SOUTHERN POVERTY LAW CANTER,MEECHA, and other LEFTIST groups driving the illegal problem. I have a simple solution to start closing the border if we are willing to absorb the media PR nightmare it will cause-PUT LAND MINES DOWN FIRST.
To these Young Patriots, As we Old Marines say, “SEMPER FI” I say Thank You that there are still Young Men that still care. You have every right to strutt and display those “Colors” we earned that right for you, Now it is your job to Preserve It. We lower our flag to no one!!! CARRY ON
I saw a picture taken last year of a CA high school…Mexican students around a flag pole. The Mexican flag hung at the top of the pole and the US flag half-mast upside down. Is this disrespect? I say Hell yea!
THe Vice-Principal’s name is Miguel Rodriguez. I wonder (1) how long he’s been an American citizen, (2) if he can prove it, (3) how he feels about La Raza, (4) how many votes he has cast for Obama, and (5) whether he’s teaching students about the wonders of amnesty.
At minimum, the dude needs to have his brown ass fired. Additionally, I hope someone really looks deeply into his birth certificate and audits his tax returns for the last ten years to determine how much money he’s sending out of the country. We don’t need new citizens like him especially in positions of mini-power and Constitutional-subversion. Maybe he can migrate to Pakistan which seems about his intellectual speed.
He can be contacted at Miguel.Rodriguez@mhu.k12.ca.us
I am SHOCKED that American students got sent home for displaying the American flag on their shirts.
If you’re so proud to be Mexican, go back to Mexico.
Amen.
I live in Arizona where Cinco de Mayo used to be an excuse for a party. As Hispanics have gotten more militant about their rights to be Mexican (NOT Mexican-American) in the US, I’ve grown less tolerant.
I think the biggest problem is that people want things both ways. Minorities (who are actually the majority in some areas, making that term a misnomer)object to racial profiling – unless it benefits them via affirmative action, hiring quotas, scholarships, etc. The standard disclaimer on most applications, registration forms, paperwork is “XYZ Company does not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, religion, etc. . . ” Well, if you don’t discriminate on the basis of race, why in the world is that question even on the application???
Americans want “made in the USA” but then balk at the higher cost of such goods and end up purchasing foregn-made products. We want cheap food which can only come from cheap labor. We say that some types of jobs are too menial for us, and then we gripe about the only people willing to do those jobs: illegal immigrants.
Finally, why is it OK for groups like NAACP, La Raza, etc. to exist? They are racially based. Unfortunately, if a group of European descent, Anglo-Saxon Protestants tried to form some sort of advocacy group they would be labeled “racist”. But I wonder if that’s what will finally need to happen?
The “changes” we’re going through–and for which everyone blames the current administration–have been decades in the making. This episode has roots going back decades. Americans used to make a sport of going out and shooting some Indians or Mexicans or beating up on some Paddies just for kicks; that same sort of thing happened worldwide (and still does in a lot of places), which is not an excuse, just a statement of fact. So now we are more understanding and that’s not bad in and of itself. But this goes over the line. If someone in a position of authority (meaning the school’s administrators) are not going to model behavior that molds young Americans into responsible adult citizens, then they should be fired. I do not know the five fellows who wore American flagged shirts; I don’t care if they did it to cause trouble. Bottom line is that there should be NO day on the calendar when it is wrong to sport your own country’s colors.
So – how many of you are calling the school and voicing off? It is one thing to sit here and shake our collective heads. It is another thing to start voicing it directly, and to activate citizen responsibility. I believe this number is correct: (408) 201-6100
Better yet — fire off letters to your congress critters demanding to know what they personally will do to ensure that such action is never taken again. I’ve already sent emails to my congress critters.
By last night, the school district had appologised to the students, and the school district was investigating the school’s overreach. Seems that having the incident make every local TV news outlet, with the likelihood of the story going national was enough to make the politically correct crowd run for cover.
Feel free to send the Principal an email. Be respectful, but let him know that this is not ok. We shouldn’t have to hide the display of the American flag in order to placate violent hispanic students.

So the kids wimped out and went home. If they were truly committed to their ideals, they would have ignored all of the authority figures and gone about their business, forcing the school to physically eject them using violent force (that’s what a dedicated libtard would do; it works both ways).
Many people think that Cinco de Mayo is the Mexican Day of Independence and it is not. It is the celebration of a minor battle between a Mexican general and a French general when Mexico was under the rule of the French. The Mexican general won the battle. Cinco de Mayo is not even celebrated in Mexico. I believe that the only place it is celebrated is here in the US and I am not sure why.
I think we can use the appelation “Un-American” in this case.
What disturbs me most is that the school administration is so much in agreement about this, and the administration is not facing any serious backlash. How long until any representation of the American flag is banned everyday there?
Great. Now we have a second group with hair trigger tempers threatening violence if they feel dissed.
Whose country is this? Do that principal and vice principal know? They do deserve pink slips for this reprehensible incident.
The United States Flag flies higher, longer, and brighter than any other. The Hispanic Immigration protesters wore and carried Mexican flags and cursed The United States for “Stealing their land”. I have the Flag on all of my cars and I fly it at home everyday. The administration of that High School needs to go back and study United States History and Civics while they are drawing food stamps as they do not deserve their jobs. Considering the location they will most likely be given awards for putting “those troublemakers” in their place.
GOD BLESS AMERICA
AMERICA, LOVE IT, OR LEAVE IT, DONT LET THE DOOR HIT YOU ON THE WAY OUT!! LONG FLY OLD GLORY
When you live in this fine Nation of ours, we are ALL Americans FIRST. To display our Nations’ flag is our rite no matter what. WE have the rite to be patriotic 365 days of the year. We are Americans.
To have an American School’s Vice Principal and Principal be ashamed of the Nation’s Flag and what it stands for… that’s just downright UN-AMERICAN!
The two of you have earned the outrage coming your way from the rest of America. You’ve brought shame to us all by your irresponsible actions.
You’ve treated these kids as though they were wearing SWASTIKA emblems!
If you can’t be an American and be proud of it, get the hell out of our Nation! We don’t have room for your kind anymore.
this is the bay area NahnCee….he’ll be Superintendent Rodriguez in a couple of years!!!

This might make sense if the kids were wearing something to do with the French flag on Cinco de Mayo. For the life of me, I can’t see why the American flag should be the least bit controversial . . . unless all that right-wing-nut-job paranoia is actually justified.
Lemme guess: Mexican, Cuban, North Koren, etc., flag were OKAY!
I suggest someone wipe that brown stuff off of their lips they got from some thugs butthole.
> First of all, the 5th of May is not a holiday in Mexico, and never has been.
Absolutely! The holiday was promoted by Mexican beer companies to appeal to the American college frat crowd. Mexicans don’t celebrate May 5 as a National Holiday.
My wife works with mostly Mexicans, and none of them celebrate May 5. When she has asked about it, they laugh and say its an American holiday.
Even if it WAS a bonifide Mexican National Holiday, no “Mexican-AMERICAN” should be offended by the American flag. And no school official should EVER be “offended” by the US flag.
I just want to know.
Did the school start the day by pledging allegiance to the American Flag?
good for these kids ,we are Americans, not nationals of the world .maybe California can annex their state to Mexico, let their tax pesos can bail those nitwits out of their current mess.the reasonable people can migrate to the The United States of AMERICA.
Come on people face it . . . none of us was “at the scene” . . .we do not know the level of danger that was there . . . we do not know if there was threats of violence . . . or if the school adminstrators were being racially biased. What we do know is NO ONE WAS INJURED. There were no deaths at school today. Get it? I can almost guarantee that at least one gun of some kind was hidden somewhere in somebodies locker, car, gym bag, at home two blocks away. There is a responsibility of the school staff to mitigate the extent of damage, they did that. . . no one was killed!! What would the difference be if the headlines were “X School Dead on Cinco De-Mayo” . . . or . . . “Cinco US Flags at Cinco De-Mayo”
Strange isn’t that now days when the “Pledge of Allegiance” is not a morning routine that the meaning of our flag is so lost to the New American.
If the students had even appeared to be threatening anyone, that would have been blasted all over the news, instantly.
Since it hasn’t been, the only conceivable thing you are asking is whether the other students were threatening them.
It’s possible. I myself was punished at school for having been physically attacked by the other kids. But that’s merely compounding their sins.
“we do not know if there was threats of violence . . . or if the school adminstrators were being racially biased.”
If the administrators thought that Hispanic students would threaten violence to those wearing the American flag on American soil because it “offended their sensibilities,” then yes, they were being racially biased. (I realize that’s probably not what you meant, is it?) And isn’t it great that the Hispanic vice-principal Rodriguez thinks so highly of his own race to automatically assume that such violence would ensue?
These holidays such as Cinco de Mayo and St. Patrick’s Day are more important to Americans of those heritages as opposed to actual Mexicans and Irish. The US is headed in the direction of Canada… in Canada, you’re not Canadian, you’re Ukrainian, French, Chinese, etc. Many Canadians are proud of this multi-culturist ideal, but it sure comes at a cost. We have Sikh extremists in Vancouver, and French separatists in Quebec for example, because everyone is too busy navel-gazing instead of getting on with the business of living. A melting pot is best, not perfect, but definitely the best of all the alternatives.
So the kids wimped out and went home. If they were truly committed to their ideals, they would have ignored all of the authority figures and gone about their business, forcing the school to physically eject them using violent force.
HMMM.. If it’s so “disrespectful” to see American flags in America, then Maybe they should go back to Mexico and look at their own…Just sayin..
Way, way back in the Stone Age of the 1960′s I seem to recall that civil liberties types literally stampeded to the barricades to defend the rights of students to wear North Vietnamese flags, Chinese slogans, Che images and similar detritus in the nation’s schools. Clothing featuring obscene caricatures of the American flag and slogans like “Fuck Amerika” were all the rage. Several cases involving this type of gear went to the SCOTUS and the right of free speech trumped any objections. And now? Well apparantly you can’t wear images of the American flag in an Ameican school on an American school day because it might annoy…..other Americans! Where’s the Berkeley Free Speech Movement when you need them?
Who said that the people being “annoyed” were Americans?
Everyday is American Flag day. I’d have gone to school with “Don’t Tread On Me” shirt.
This is insane, here is this guys email address, tell him what you think of his actions Miguel.Rodriguez@mhu.k12.ca.us.
Annicia Nunez thinks that she is owed an apology for the “disrespectful” choice of clothing colors by other students on what she believes is a “Mexican heritage day”. That pretty well sums up the loss of perspective by any number of groups who have chosen to make themselves “special interest groups” and who, in turn, take themselves too seriously.
To compare Cinco de Mayo with our Independence Day / Fourth of July is comparing apples to naranjas. Mexico’s independence day is in mid-September. Cinco de Mayo is the day that an outnumbered Mexican Army repelled a French invasion in Puebla, only to be overrun about a year later. At least in the U.S., Cinco de Mayo has morphed into a day to celebrate the culinary arts and libations from Mexico.
The hyper-sensitivities being displayed by so many are, in part, the result of the fanned flames of misinformation by open borders / pro-amnesty types regarding ILLEGAL immigration and the law. Neither of which has anything to do with being ANTI-immigration.
It is a lot like comparing apples to naranjas.
Umm…They are in America right? So why would anyone be offended by an American flag. If someone is offended by it then they should go back to their mother country. While I do believe this was a douche bag stunt, they broke no rule.
Definitely wearing an American symbol in America should result in being asked to leave school. Wouldn’t want to offend anyone now would we?
Let them know what you think.

No diversity, and no tolerance for Euro or African-Americans’ freedom to speak will be tolerated in parts of the US occupied by the libtard plutocracy’s employees( Mexican illegal invaders), and their educrat enablers. This is a wake up call to patriots.Vote in november!
So now we have American students being punished for being Americans. I thought this was the USA not the USSR! I wonder how our President will respond to this. What a shame if the elected leader of the United States does nothing to support his constituents.
Seeing as how this is the USA and not Mexico I don’t see anything wrong with wearing clothing that is patriotic to our country irregardless of what day it is or is being celebrated in other countries. I think it is wrong to punish patrotism on any day in our country. Let every one celebrate peacefully thier holidays or any day, why can’t we all live in peace?
One more thought. Again, to the High School Administers: I served in the United States Military, to support and denfend this country. What you did yesterday is outrageously offensive to me and all who have served our country. These nincompoop lefty indiots need to go back to a basic “civic class”. If this kind of insane behavior by so called “educated” administraters stands, well people, we have lost our country. We no longer have sovereigny over a place that used to be called the United States of America. Funny thing is, no other country in the world would put up with this. I am watching our country literally committ national suicide. Yes, we have met the enemy, and the enemy is us.
I couldn’t agree more. This is complete insanity. What has happened to this country? Who are all these idiots that don’t understand or respect the Constitution of the United States of America? Last I checked, California was still a part of this once great country. Anyone, in any State in the United States, on any day of the year, has the right to display their patriotism for this country…and their faith in God. Why are so many immigrants, from all different countries, many whom are illegal and who migrated away from countries they no longer wanted to be a part of continue to get away with disrespecting our country. Why are you here if you don’t like it. The majority doesn’t seem to have any say in this country anymore. We’re always trying to pacify some liberal prick that thinks everything should just be handed to them. What about all them men and women that sacrificed there lives for this country? Don’t we need to continue to fight for the freedom they fought for us to keep? This just makes me sick. I can’t believe how this country is just falling apart.
“Funny thing is, no other country in the world would put up with this.” The sad thing is that here in the UK, our local councils will give us no end of grief if we dare fly the Union Jack on our own property, in our own country, makes me sick.
Hey who is with me? Let us get some pry bars and line up along the fault line. Maybe we can pry loose the state from the mainland quicker than the inevitable future earthquake will do by itself. The sooner that state becomes its own island nation the better. We could name it “Cala-e-forn-ea” in honor of Arnold! It is like a tumor and its bad ideas always spread across the nation sooner or later, like a cancer. For example, half of our fuel requirements and our CAFE standards are due to California. Anti-nuke, pro illegal immigration, sanctuary cities, etc. are other examples.
I say “heave-ho, California has to go!” Of course we would allow the sane people to leave, that should take about a day and a half to find them. But then “you’re out of here!”
Ignorant hillbilly…
What can you expect from a High School whose team is named

I’m an immigrant and I’ll proudly wear the red, white, and blue any day I wish because I understand that the American flag does NOT represent only white or only Christian Americans. It represents a system of government for people of ALL colors and religions who understand that true freedom comes from self reliance, not government hand outs.
Personally, my family celebrates the Tet holiday. People wear the red, white, and blue on that day too. Why in the world would I find that offensive….IN AMERICA?! The United States of America is my country too.
Your name is Vietnamese, so Im assuming your are an escapee from communist Vietnam. Like most other escapees from communist societies, you came to America because of FREEDOM. And like many immigrants before you, you became proud AMERICANS. Todays illegal immigrants have NO DESIRE to do so. They want to spread the misery and corruption that is MEXICO to the US. That is the difference between you and them. Illegal immigrants DO NOT WANT TO BE AMERICANS. They, like the MOSLEM SUPREMACISTS, want to FORCE America to be as miserable as they are. You escaped communist Vietnam to escape the same misery these illegals now want to impose on America. Dont let it happen-I live in Arizona and see the results of kissing illegal immigrants butts every day.
Flags should not be worn as clothing. They should wear a flag pin or a patch.
Deaths by Conflict
Operation Iraqi Freedom: 4382
Operation Enduring Freedom: 1044
Death toll by COMMUNIST VERMIN AND MOSLEM SUPREMACIST-WELL OVER 150 MILLION SINCE 1917-you want numbers. Seems to me the filthy pig commies and there Moslem fellow scum have American soldiers (who DO wear uniforms, unlike Stalin,Mao,Pol Pot,Bin Laden,Castro,Che, Chavez etc) have did FAR MORE than ANYONE in history. Of course, facts dont matter to a commie puke.
So, I am a Communist? Wow, that makes me feel good as I just returned from my 3rd deployment in a war zone.
Where have you been?
Number of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom
casualties as confirmed by U.S. Central Command: 5427
“Flags should not be worn as clothing. They should wear a flag pin or a patch.”
Ted, thank you for your service. That being said, we need to clear up a common misconception here: The kids weren’t actually wearing the flag as clothing; they were wearing things like the Old Navy T-shirts with a graphic of the flag on them.

As far as I’m concerned this is all just another example of political correctness on steroids everyone trying to one up everyone else in how cool and down with the program they are when assuming the Hispanic population wasn’t evolved enough to deal with it and would fight over it is a much greater racial bias as far as I can see.
If we don’t grow some as a nation and realize that political correctness is incorrect thinking and should be replaced with political honesty then we all need to accept that they will cut us off at the knees with the knifes we are handing them.
Wow. Last time I checked this was America where people could wear whatever they liked. What the hell happened? I hope that the school board gets slammed for making the students go home for wearing clothes that had the AMERICAN flag printed on them.
School should be sued back to the stone ages. When is wearing the flag of our nation wrong?? This is political correctness gone wrong and basically anyone in the school responsible for sending these kids home should lose their job immediately.
I think everyone in America needs to wear an American flag t-shirt. If you live in America you should abide by our rules and if you live in AMERICA you should not be displaying another flag other than the AMERICAN FLAG. Those boys are right they can wear the AMERICAN flag t-shirt any day of the week. I’m going to wear mine and I hope everybody else does too because WE ARE AMERICANS and we have every right to show it.
This is interesting, in a Virginia suburban neighbor hood a man was being to told to remove his flag pole in from of his house as it did not conform their “community rules”. This was December 2009.
That a man turned out to be a 90 year old medal of honor winner.
This 1944 Medal of Honor citation, listed with the National Medal of Honor
Society, is for Second Lieutenant Van T. Barfoot, 157th Infantry, 45th Infantry:
“For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of life above and beyond
the call of duty on 23 May 1944, near Carano , Italy . With his platoon heavily
engaged during an assault against forces well entrenched on commanding
ground, 2d Lt. Barfoot moved off alone upon the enemy left flank. He crawled
to the proximity of 1 machinegun nest and made a direct hit on it with a hand
grenade, killing 2 and wounding 3 Germans. He continued along the German
defense line to another machinegun emplacement, and with his tommygun
killed 2 and captured 3 soldiers. Members of another enemy machinegun crew
then abandoned their position and gave themselves up to Sgt. Barfoot. Leaving
the prisoners for his support squad to pick up, he proceeded to mop up positions
in the immediate area, capturing more prisoners and bringing his total count to
17. Later that day, after he had reorganized his men and consolidated the newly
captured ground, the enemy launched a fierce armored counterattack directly at
his platoon positions. Securing a bazooka, Sgt. Barfoot took up an exposed
position directly in front of 3 advancing Mark VI tanks. From a distance of 75
yards his first shot destroyed the track of the leading tank, effectively disabling it,
while the other 2 changed direction toward the flank. As the crew of the disabled
tank dismounted, Sgt. Barfoot killed 3 of them with his tommygun. He continued
onward into enemy terrain and destroyed a recently abandoned German
fieldpiece with a demolition charge placed in the breech. While returning to his
platoon position, Sgt. Barfoot, though greatly fatigued by his Herculean efforts,
assisted 2 of his seriously wounded men 1,700 yards to a position of safety.
Sgt. Barfoot’s extraordinary heroism, demonstration of magnificent valor, and
aggressive determination in the face of point blank fire are a perpetual
inspiration to his fellow soldiers.”
Now we have teachers and principals who know nothing.
This is right up there on the top 10 list of lame actions committed by any high school administration. Don’t they realize that Cinco de Mayo is completely, 100% an American holiday? It has nothing to do with Mexico and it’s nothing more than an excuse to drum up business in bars. You will not find one person from Mexico who has ever celebrated this holiday.
No Armando-CINCO DE MAYO was drummed up by the likes of LA RAZA(RACISTS) AND MEECHA. Just like KWANZAA is not a “black” holiday, but was drummed up by a BLACK SUPREMACIST ANTI AMERICAN commie in the late 1960s. A former jailbird in fact, who later served as an “ethnic studies” professor at Long Beach st in Commiefornicate. Take that to the bank.
So will some kids be sent home if they show-up with Mexican flag T-shirts on July 4th? Only 2 months away, I hope that folks remember to check this out.
Wait, you mean these kids normally go to school on the Fourth of July—a national holiday in the middle of summer vacation?
I think many are to heavily invested on both sides of this argument. No they shouldn’t be sent home for wearing flags. IF and only IF some violence occurred, that is the time to step in and ask questions…like “why did the 5 of you decide to, as a group, pick this one day to adorn all of yourselves in flags from head to toe? That IS dickish, prickish…call it what you will. The facts are: Yes they did it on purpose. Noone should have over reacted; not the school staff or any fellow students. It would have been enough that these kids were basically wearing signs that day that read “I’m an asshole and proud of it!”. Now everyone else calm the hell down.
OK, you tell me why Americans wearing American flag T-shirts in an American school are considered “provocative” and “offensive” by anybody, even on Cinco de Mayo?
Sheesh, you’re right, this is pretty open and shut. But because so many Americans lack simple reasoning abilities and have had their national pride replaced with a piddling desire to grovel and apologize and “make nice” to anybody who looks at us cross-eyed, well, yeah, now it’s a deal.
There is no reason that Cinco de Mayo should encompass NOT wearing USA colors. I am so sick and so tired of this endless pandering. If I celebrate my heritages, it’s as a US citizen first and my ancestry from other countries is secondary, or, I can live in one of those.
We can teach respect, without, these hard ball tactics.
Trust me, all who come here and believe your heritage is first, you will lose. Too many are now on to you. Have a lovely USA day!
This is exactly the point someone made on another blog. At St. Patrick’s Day celebrations here in the US, both the Irish and the US flags fly. In StPD parades, the US flag always takes precedence. Celebrating your heritage doesn’t entail being “offended” by the US flag, unless you have some other agenda.
But the Left in this country has made it pay to worship in the Temple of Eternal Victimhood.
I don’t think that your principle knows much about history. This is not Mexican Independence Day it was only one battle (the battle of Puebla) against bad odds that the Mexicans won. What kind of idiots do we have teaching our children?
You’ve lost your country.
Looks like the Five soon will be getting a nice check from Live Oak.
Pity for the non-involved taxpayers that THEY get to foot the bill for the bigotry and stupidity of the school administrators.
Those students did not do anything wrong. Students should be allowed to proudly wear an American flag any day of the year in our public schools. They are American citizens and this is a free country. Tell all the students in Mexico they are not allowed to wear a Mexican flag on the 4th of July. If that doesn’t work, then next year all our students should wear American flags to school on the 5th of May.
How about you remind this school we live in America…

So would Mexican-American kids get kicked out of school if they wore Mexican flag t-shirts on the 4th of July? I think not… This is bull****! So is it offensive that the American flag is flying outside that school on May 5th? OH NO we wouldn’t want to OFFEND any one… We better take it down. What a load of crap!
Political correctness needs to die NOW. This is shameful.
Pay the principal and vice-principal in Mexican pesos (at salary face value, no exchange rate, that is $50K salary is now 50K Mexican pesos). Let’s see how much they love Mexico then.
Recently in California a school teacher was forced to take down patriotic signs that read:
“In God We Trust,” “One Nation Under God,” “God Bless America,” and “God Shed His Grace on Thee.”
According to the school administrator, these signs “would be offensive to Muslim students”
Isn’t Multiculturalism wonderful? Mexicans and Muslims coming to the US get a heckler’s veto over how Americans can express their culture.
#51: Soon we will be forced to take down our flags on Cinco de Mayo, even the ones on our front lawns.
Want to know how far we can go down the toilet of suicidal multiculturalism? Go to England, where, to avoid offense to Islam:
banks no longer give kids “piggy banks”
“Three Little Pigs” are banned from classrooms
HOt Cross Buns are banned from hospitals
Jails cannot fly the Union Jack on their grounds
Not allowed to teach about the Crusades or the Holocaust
A nurse was forced to remove her cross necklace
On Ramadan, you cannot eat in front of your Muslim co-workers
We are slowly allowing this to happen in the US.

We live in America if you dont like the American flag then get the hell out of here.It shouldn’t matter if it’s may 5th do they ban American flags during the 4th of July? I say good job guys your pround to be American and you show it!!!!
You know, if these kids want to be patriotic, maybe they should know something about proper display of our flag according to the Flag Code.
“The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery.”
At first glance I’d agree that it’s overkill to send these kids home, but you have to wonder whether there is racial tension and what message these kids were trying to send.
Over here on the East coast, we just convicted a teen that looks a lot like these guys of manslaughter. He and his friends spent the night “Mexican Hopping” or “Beaner Jumping” singling out immigrants who they outnumbered and assaulting them. They then finally ended up stabbing an Ecuadorian man to death.
I guess there is a question in my mind of whether this display is out of love of country or if the flag bears no more meaning to these kids than gang colors.
So – From this I take it that your point is that the four kids in California are potentially racist killers because they chose to wear a U.S. flag on their clothing on cinco de mayo? Gee, talk about profiling! Why not simply try them for murder in “Minority Report” fashion for their future hate crime and just get it over with?
By the way, it’s rather amusing to see someone with your mindset taking refuge in the Flag Code. We have had over forty years of jurisprudence that has repeatedly affirmed that the use of the flag on clothing, banners etc. for political purposes is protected “political speech.” Sadly enough this usually involves burning it, tearing it, spitting on it, using it for a diaper or otherwise desecrating it. Suddenly someone with the sobriquet of “Lefty” is taking refuge in the Flag Code to point out that, technically speaking, you shouldn’t wear a flag on a t-shirt. But then again these four kids are all potentially racist killing machines and we should slap them down now while we have the chance.
Lefty: Chambers overwhelmed you arguments so I won’t go there.
Regardless this is not about their flag apparel, it is about their rights as Americans. It is about the tyranny of the minority.
You bet there is racial tension and finally white American youth are standing to it. I just wish our elected Americans would realize that the racial tension exists because white America is tired of their rights being trampled, treated like second class citizens, seeing their America become a third-world sewer and so forth. You’re saying that the white kids are causing the tension, but that is rarely the case. It is the minority kids black and hispanic who create the tension and white progrssives like you who give them cover and aid.
Your pathetic argument boils down to equating the flag as gang colors and these kids as homicidal killers. Wow that is really creative argument. I bet you were blowing gaskets trying to come up with it.
For your information, the Untied States military, law enforcement, firefighters and others wear U.S. flag patches on their uniforms (flags on clothing). Stop with the silly flag protocol. The bottom line is the supreme court of our nation says it’s okay. Our constitution says these student can wear it any day of the damn week.
“The flag should never be used as wearing apparel”
Key words in the phrase: “used AS wearing apparel.”
These boys were not using an actual flag as apparal. There is no problem with wearing apparel with depictions of the U.S. flag on it. At least there was no problem when I wore a flag on my BDUs when I served….
These kids were most certainly doing it on purpose. Notice all of them are white rich looking punks?
Really? What do ‘rich’ people look like? And who cares if they’re ‘rich?’ That doesn’t make them wrong. How does being ‘rich’ and white (oh the horrors–white people! aaarrrrgggghhhh!!!!) have a damn thing to do with this conversation!
Here’s a newsflash for ya: ‘Rich’ people can be patriotic too.
And one more news flash for “Reality” Check: One of the students involved in this, Dominic Maciel, has a father of Mexican heritage; he was just–correctly, IMHO–showing that, as an American, he valued his American heritage more than anything else. (He also said that he didn’t mind the Mexican kids wearing their Mexican flag apparel on 5/5, which is a lot more courtesy than he received in return, either from those students OR from Vice-Principal Rodriguez.
I think the parents of these patriotic kids should file suit against the school for discrimination against the flag of the USA and harrassment of their children. The boys should be commended for their patriotism. Cinco de Mayo is not a regognized holiday in the USA. Get over it, or leave.
“Al pueblo que fueres haz lo que vieres”
As the great journalist Ron Burgundy said, “When in Rome…”
By stating that “wearing the shirts may cause fights” is basically saying that the Mexican-Americans at the school are violent and get upset at the smallest things. Nice! Way to degrade the Mexican-American students by saying they are fast tempered!
First, I think those kids while not “pricks” and I’m assuming that they knew each other, probably planned on making some sort of statement by wearing these shirts on that particular day. It is also interesting to note that LEFTY’s comment on the wearing of the flag on clothing is technically true, although few people are offended by this. Remember that it is a code and not a law. Having said that, all else is PC c–p. The administrators of that school should be fired.
“Lefty”, is that the hand you use to play with yourself while you dream up these moronic fantasies equating a few independent minded high school students with some murderers in your home town?
I wonder if this school will banish mexican flags on July the 4th?
The sadder part is if, due to overcrowding caused in no large part by providing education to illegal immigrants, school is still in session for some portion of the student body as late as July 4th. Multiple track school-years have been the norm in California since the mid-1970s and I’m sure only further necessitated by recent demographic trends (please dont pin this on Proposition 13).
I did send my uncle-in-law home to change out of his “Seleccion” (Mexican soccer jersey) when he came to my 4th of July backyard party. Since then, he’s towed the line quite well.
125. Lefty:
If the school is that unsafe, if gangs are in control, the school should be shut down until control is restored. Violent students must be dismissed and incompentent administrators must be fired. Or is a threat of violence just an excuse for knee-jerk liberal anti-Americanism?
so- its offensive because they did it intentionally to “reinforce” the whole “american” pride …but yes Cinco de Mayo is a mexican american hertigage celebration- which should be respected. Until latinos in America (legally)-Mexican American and African Americans and Asian Americans-etc can be just seen as just being American then the US flag will bring pride to all colors/races of Americans… Its like wearing a confederate flag on MLK day….it just pushes the boundaries and doesnt come off as culturally sensitive. Remember the whole Miley Cyrus picture of her pulling her eyes slanted/shut while in some part of Asia- in the photo they were all asian- yeah-that was culturally insensitive too…. The boys should have been told that they were being culturally insensitive and they would be punished if they refuse to take off/change their shirts…
“but yes Cinco de Mayo is a mexican american hertigage celebration- which should be respected.”
How does wearing an American flag shirt not respect “mexican american hertigage” [sic]?
You wanna bet you can go to any Oktoberfest around the US and find a large number of US flag shirts AND NO CONTROVERSY?
And if the boys would had refused and said “We are Americans who want to be seen wearing the American flag” – what then? That is exactly how every free speech case involving the flag begins. Under the customary scenario the authorities would traditionally be demanding the removal of the students for using the flag in some demeaning manner in order make a political point. Assume for example that a Latino student had worn a t-shirt with a swastika imposed on the American flag to protest the Arizona immigration law. This would be protected “political speech” and the school would suspend them at their peril.
Is it really “showing disrespect” for American students to wear the American flag in an American high school located in the U.S.? Disrespect to who and to what? From what we can see they did not chant anti-Lation slogans or encourage violence toward anyone else. As to “cultural sensitivity”, our fixation with this bogus topic has had the effect of making “sensitivity” a more valued quality than “tolerance.”
This entire episode makes me want to ask everyone celebrating “Mexican Pride” one simple question: If your country is so great and you’re so proud of it, why are you fighting so hard to stay in the United States? It only seems logical that if all of you have such grand opinions of Mexico, you would choose to live THERE instead of HERE. If you feel it’s more important to fly the Mexican flag than it is to fly the Amercian flag–and indeed, are offended by our nation’s colors, whether or not they are flown or worn–you’re in the wrong country.
.WELL SAID
http://www.ushistory.org/betsy/flagcode.htm
Section 3. Section 8.
They should never wear those. They are disrespectful.
This story is NOT about whether or not it is disrespectful to wear an image of the American flag on a shirt or any other article of clothing. This is story is about five young men who were told it was inappropriate to display our national flag at an American high school because it might offend those students celebrating Cinco de Mayo, a Mexican holiday (and one that is only marginally celebrated in Mexico itself). Your concern should not be on whether or not our flag was displayed on a shirt–your concern should be the fact that someone tried to tell these young men that the display was not allowed at all. Get your priorities straight.
(By the way, if you don’t approve of our national flag being patriotically displayed on any article of clothing, you might want to protest to the current and former military personnel that run RangerUp.com, a popular line of pro-American, pro-military, and pro-patriot clothing that feature an image of our flag on their “Unapologetically American” shirt.)
CYNCO DE MAYO IS NOT EVEN A LEGITIMATE HOLIDAY!!!!!
Those kids should have gone straight to Walgreens, bought some Mexican flags and burned them.
how dare u tell any child n this country u must apologize for wearing a american flag in this country u sir should b repdemended for ur actions n i would write u up if i was ur boss
How dare someone celebrate a Foreign National Holiday in the United States except in private. Especially a Mexican National holiday. We have gone to war how many times with Mexico and they continue ignore our customs and way of life and walk all over us. If you want to celebrate a Mexican holiday go there and pack a U-HAUL with your stuff and don’t come back.
I am only one of millions of people that know that Cinco de Mayo is NOT a Mexican National Holiday. Next time check your facts so you do not sound like an American Idiot!
The students are in AMERICA and wore AMERICAN flags and got in trouble? Really? We should be happy that kids of this age support out country, specially in time of crisis. We do not punish those who wear the Mexican flag on days that are not May 5th and Sept 16th. All 363 days of the year that are not celebrating Mexican independence or heritage are American days.
Slight problem. This did not happen.
That’s right! It did not happen!
You are being lied to. Thanks, racists!
WTF are you babbling about?
I trust the school administrators also took the US flag down that would normally be flying out front of the school..
Cinco de Mayo celebrates the victory of Irish and German mercenaries over the French* at the Battle of Puebla. Even in Peubla it is a minor deal. The victory is commemorated here at the behest of beer companies, snack food distributors, and perhaps the California Avocado Board. Twenty five years ago, no one here had ever heard of it, nevermind used it as as excuse to engage in bleeding heart reverse racism.
*In a minor footnote on the French in Mexico, the common Mexican surname, Sanchez, just means homeless in French…
Other than the fact that it used to be seen as being disrespectful to “wear” the flag, I see no problem with what these teens did. As for the reaction? Orwell couldn’t have imagined where and how far doublethink would go.
It took 132 comments to get to the point. Nobody is telling anyone not to wear a Mexican flag, or whatever, in the United States. For all I care, those students can wear it 365 days a year, including July 4th. I support their right to say “I am an ingrate and a jerk”, in pictures as well as words.
They aren’t all that far from Mexico, so one wonders why they don’t just go there if Mexico’s so great and the United States is so bad, but I don’t care enough to ask the question. My quarrel is with the school administration and their lack of tolerance for the American citizens who pay their salaries.
They would respond to you that they are in what was originally Mexico, and what was stolen from Mexico by the U.S. It’s “greater Mexico” to them. The worst part of this story is what these hispanic kids are and aren’t being taught. Can’t you just see these kids competing in the global market with the Chinese? They will be in the majority in many states in the future. We are doomed.
Who cares. If you want to wear the red, white and blue go ahead. If you want to wear a shirt depicting another nation’s colors go ahead. Get over it already.
The last I checked, this is still the USA. These administrators should be fired with extreme prejudice.
Mexico has two independence days. Sept 16th for indepencence from Spain and May 5 for independence from France. France was convinced to withdraw support from Maximillian after the US Civil War was over.
Now me I celebrate April 30th, of 1863, the immortal battle of Camerone. 62 members of the French Foreign Legion fought and held off 2000 Mexican soldiers. At the end of the day, out of ammunition, the survivors fixed bayonets and charged! The Mexican commander gave the survivors free passage, under arms, back to their lines, along with the body of their captain. The wooden hand of Captain Danjou is still kept as a relic by the French.
I have to agree with Lefty. So, these kids really just decided to wear flag clothing that day with ZERO intent on causing ANY trouble? Or a free day off school? Come on, I call B.S. Does nobody here remember being a teenager?
Cinco de Mayo is just an excuse for boozing (thank Corona Beer)& celebration, kinda like St Patrick’s day. Look it up.
Anyone think this author is biased, racist even? I do.
To 149. Sigh
Dear retarded….
Please take the time to get a basic middle school education… you can not be racist against mexicans… mexican is a nationality not a race. The author could say he hates all mexicans because their all drug dealing rapist gang members and the comment nor the author saying said comment could be called a racist for such a comment.
On the other hand many mexicans do believe they are from a superior races like ppl from groups like LA RAZA(or “the race”). Much as germany believed in the superior race that was the german in the 1930-40s mexicans(a close ally of hitler btw) also believe in such a thing thus making their beliefs racist. LA RAZA and other groups display the mexican flag and other actions as a raced based symbol so when the student,
“I think they should apologize cause it is a Mexican Heritage Day,” Annicia Nunez, a Live Oak High student, said. “We don’t deserve to be get disrespected like that. We wouldn’t do that on Fourth of July.”
it is highly like this person is a racist being they subscribe to the memo that mexicans are a race.
Please before you comment again take the time to at least finish middle school and maybe do some basic research on the topic.
Dear ‘robotech master’
Thanks for the lesson on racism, regardless, I still think they did it to cause trouble, which is why they were asked to leave, which is why it’s made national news.
And calling me retarded did what exactly? My guess is to feel superior, which I’m willing to bet YOU personally feel toward everyone. You have fun with that.
“I still think they did it to cause trouble, which is why they were asked to leave, which is why it’s made national news. ”
Its not a right to demand that others leave a public school because they offend you or because they are their to “cause trouble” by playing on the fact that mexicans are violent, hateful, racist, etc. When millions of illegals take to the streets, attack police, etc, etc, etc where are these same ppl? No where, they openly support not only the criminal actions they take but the criminals themselves. Your argument would only have the slimmest chance of being debatable if it wasn’t for the insane gross double standard applied to this topic.(One that you yourself clearly display in your post.)
The fact that a person wearing a US flag in a US school could be constructed as “causing trouble” is a huge problem… and the ppl who were going to cause the trouble should be arrested… and of course those ppl would be the ones who planned to attack anyone wearing a US flag. If these students had been shouting “mexico is a hellhole country full of terrorists, kidnappers, drug gangs, etc” that’s not only their RIGHT but its a simple FACT. Its neither the US’s problem nor the students problems that mexicans are offended by reality or facts.
The real problem is the fact that these student who the staff at the school believed to be violent were REWARDED for this violence and for not dealing with reality. This sends a very very wrong message. These ppl need to be educated and forced to deal with the reality of the world instead of being buffered from reality and being told that their home country is “good”…
“And calling me retarded did what exactly?”
Stating a fact… like most of everything else I posted… I try to add lots of facts…
“My guess is to feel superior, which I’m willing to bet YOU personally feel toward everyone. You have fun with that.”
Your “guess” is more like your self projection… your view of the topic shows clear collectivist leaning and thus from that its highly likely you are either a bigot or a racist or both. The fact that once again you keep trying to bring up race, racism, implied racism, etc in a debate that has nothing to do with race clearly dictates a focus solely on race… a trait that is in all racists.
If I were you, I wouldn’t conduct a poll on that. In fact if you gave people a choice to vote on whether (1) Zombie is a racist; or (2) poster #149 is a cretin, I suspect the second choice would win in a landslide.
Persons who choose to identify with and extend their loyalties to nations other than the USA need to be returned to those nations, where they can find better lives. They should not be forced to endure here those situations which they find so abhorrent. If they do not wish to assimilate we should respect their wishes and assist them in returning to the countries of origin. We have been given to understand that there will be about twelve million in the initial group, departing, almost exclusively, to various points south of the border. We wish them well, and hope they will write when they get work.
Whether these boys were “pricks” or not is irrrelevant. Clearly, they were making a statement, which is their right. In fact, I applaud their spirit. I see them as young tea party activists. They selected a symbolic day to make their statement. And they did so in a way that was not violent or rude. More power to them.
The school administration proved to be indoctrinated with PC thinking. These boys, and their families, managed to bring several important issues to light.
How sad that it requires a meeting to determine the boys could wear the clothes they came to school with.
Now I’m just waiting to see this, and other school districts, add some clause to the list of what one is not allowed to wear to school to try to capture the scenario that just occured.
I wonder, if it was St Patricks day, and some students showed up wearing Irish flags, and some wore US flags, would the students wearing US flags again be told to hide them? I would love to see both the principle and assistant principle fired, or at least formally reprimanded, but knowing the power of the CA teachers unions, and their devotion to PC, I know that wont happen.
Well, I don’t know about wearing an American flag, but I have marched in the St. Paddy’s Day parade – and I CARRIED an American flag.
There are as many American flags as Irish flags – if not more – because the idea is that of celebrating the Irish HERITAGE of patriotic AMERICANS.
Perhaps there I have found the difference. Some people celebrate what they have brought TO the country. Other people whine about what they want FROM the country.
I can’t believe we are even having this conversation. This is the U.S.A., part of what made this country great has been pride, loyalty and being patiotic to the symbol that represents our country (the flag). All through history it has not been just one racial or ethnic group that has fought for this country, it has been every person proud to be an American and wanting to keep the freedoms we have. When you become an American you pledge allegence to this country, but we do not say you must forget your history. Practice your ethinic heritage, just remember it was your choice to come here and become a citizen, so respect the heritage of the country you call home.
If those were my kids, you can bet the following would go down…
1) Forecibly escort the principar to the flagpole,
2) Manually adjust his head to an angle sufficient that he can observe the American flag flying over his pathetic excuse of a “school”
3) File a MULTI MILLION DOLLAR lawsuit againt the Board of Ed
4) As condition to a reduced settlement, demand a cash payment, in Mexican Pesos, in a paper bag.
5) Take said paper bag, and SET IT ON FIRE NEAR THE SCHOOL FLAGPOLE.
Yes Virginia, I would gladly forgo the additional lifestyle benifits that could be obtained with a settlement against the Board of Ed, just to make a point. I didnt earn that money, and I wont miss it one bit because…
My principals are worth more than money.
They are worth more even, than my own life
Therefore, such a display my absolute contempt for them, costing a mere $75,000.00 or so, is a bargain to me.
(Yes, I know the taxpayers are the schlubs footing bill for the award, not the Teachers Union, but they would have paid dearly regardless of my burning the loot, this is such a no-brainer lawsuit-waiting-to-happen)
“Cinco de Mayo American Flag Flap”
Some Liberal types were feeling hurt
by students who were wearing shirts.
What were they supposed to do
when faced with red and white and blue?
They sent them home, and I lament –
the point: to make the kids repent.
What those in charge did not connect;
it goes two ways to show respect.
And so I sit and write here, pensive.
Those in charge were so offensive.
These boys should have been commendations! They have a First Amendment right to wear the flag, and I hope they sue the school board.
Mr. Wee Wee sez YOU GO GIRL and GET BEHIND Barack! His loving embrace will heal all wounds and open all borders. Peace!
From the US Flag Code:
176(d) The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery.
176(i) The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever. It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard.
676(j) No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform.
I see some problems here that have nothing to do with what date they wore those shirts on.
And as several people have said, Cinco de Mayo means very little in Mexico; it’s almost entirely the creation of the marketing department of Corona beer. Kind of like Saint Patrick’s Day, it’s an excuse for a good party. Except with better food, and the beer isn’t green.
Good grief. This is, what, the fourth time someone has brought this silliness up? Let me spell it out for you. They were not wearing a flag, they were wearing T-shirts with an image of the flag. An image of the stars and stripes on a T-shirt, common as sand at a beach, is not…an actual flag. Clear enough?
That 9.0 quake can’t come soon enough.
“We didn’t want to start anything….”
What, like knowing what freakin’ country they live in or something?!
Good grief. Who would “start anything” except someone who wanted to pretend this is MEXICO instead of the USA?!
How sickening does it have to get in this country before people say NO MAS to MEXICO?!
I am sick of this: We need a Constitutional Amendment specifying that this country is called the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA WHERE WE SPEAK ENGLISH AS A NATIONAL LANGUAGE.
“This is an outrage! I hate all Mexicans because they get all the breaks in MY country! This is Mericah!” Etc.
Is it painful being that stupid, Urinal?
I like the implication that the administrators consider Mexican students to be violent animals that we should try not to antagonize. Those Mexicans are CRAZY, you don’t know WHAT they’re gonna do! And then they call *us* racists…
Do you guys remember high school? The coordinated effort of wearing American flags on this particular day was probably very much intended to deliver a racial message. High school kids aren’t known for empathy. Of course this is America and we are proud of our country, but these kids have a really convenient “But I was being patriotic!” card to play. And look how much support they are getting on this board, almost everyone buys right into it.
And your comment on the hispanic kids at the school wearing Mexican flags would be?
If a group of Mexican-American students chose to coordinate their Mexican flag attire on July 4, it would be sending the exact same racial message, and I would consider it to be wrong.
Fire the administrators.
Second that.
Im a white guy alright, but i kind of have to say that it is a bit ridiculous that these kids had their American flag clothing on a cinco de mayo day. I mean really, you got 364 days to wear your clothes, how come you have to wear in a day when Mexicans all around the nation are celebrating the Mexican culture. I really feel that these kids only decided to do it just to gain attention. I’m NOT stating that wearing the American flag is a crime! Not at all! We just have to use our brains for a bit here. I do feel that these kids knew what they were doing, trying to incite some kind of fight in my honest opinion (since kids can be stupid). We have a lot of people not born in this nation WITH citizenship, i also happen to have Mexican friends who ALL believe (including me and some of my NON Hispanic friends) that this was really stupid of them. Hey, if you want to wear the American flag on Cinco De Mayo, then go ahead, but you WILL get butt kicked and you better not live near Hispanic houses. Even black people around Oakland thought it was stupid for these kids to do that…BLACK PEOPLE! Although i do have to agree that sending them home was too tough.
Excuse me, but this is the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. I dont see any HISPANIC kids being threatened or punished for wearing pro-Mexico clothing. Fuuny how its only when you ACT AS A PATRIOTIC AMERICAN you get attacked and disrespected. LAW ACADEMIA AND MEDIA NEED TO BE DISINFECTED COMPLETELY. Too many in all 3 fields are COMMUNISTS even if they are too stupid to realize it.
Hey fellow americans, if you find yourselves as this retard said getting your ass kicked by some ignorant mexican for wearing your flag shirt, stand up fight back and call out for your brothers cause it aint going to happen as long as there are some of us that are still proud of our country and flag,So dont listen to this mexi sympathizer..he is just to much of a vag to say stand up for his country…..
Hey, it’s not as if they referred to the holiday as “Cinco de Quatro”, like a certain Nobel P*ss Prize winning POTUS (Payaso of the United States) did last year…
This is America, not Mexico. Those kids have every right to wear t-shirts with the American Flag. The administrators of that school should be sent home not the kids.
It’s interesting a group of high school boys come to school on May 5th all having the American flag on their clothing in an area that obviously put weight on the, albeit American made, holiday. And of course the local news sensationalized it. What a crock, the whole thing. While out and out telling them to go home for wearing it seems extreme, the staff’s concern doesn’t seem nearly as deadly to patriotism as some of the fools posting on this story make it seem. By the way, white American born and raised male here, finding some of the things said here disgusting.
I agree.
Dickhead Durbin, Dennis Kookcunich, Ed Schultz, Kieth the Uberdork and Chrissie Matthews all can say the same thing. Being born in America is not the same as being an AMERICAN. America is an IDEA, not a birth certificate.
Here is video of BHOzo saying “Cinco de Quattro”…

And yes, that Pajero deputy principal should be paid in pesos on a 1:1 exchange basis.
Don’t forget to extrapolate this event to include anyone you disagree with. I frankly prefer Bill O’Reilly’s “War on Christmas” bs, to this constant muddled ire at the “liberals”. If all it takes is reading the SF Chronicle everyday–perhaps the thinnest sheaf of newsprint currently available–and simply reprinting what you find there with attached asinine opinion, then the majority of the readers here, intellectually limited as they are, can have their own successful blog. There’s no end to idiots out there with ambient anger at the limited possibilities in their lives.
oscar, given that you have been bested in debate here frequently and that hurling insults is what you substitute for argument, it is hilarious to see you return time and again to beclown yourself. I’m sure you are a grouch. I would be too, if I had the IQ of an artichoke.
There’s no end to idiots out there with ambient anger at the limited possibilities in their lives.
Very true. And they spend their time trolling conservative sites.
Where’s the “you people”? Don’t want anyone to know? Ashamed…?
“There’s no end to idiots out there with ambient anger at the limited possibilities in their lives.”
You mean something like this oscar le moho?
“252. Moho.
“Malingering hillbillies that you are, your traditional dishonest manipulation of turning the event into a four day holiday fails with people who don’t share your enthusiasm for the celebration of the triumph of holocaust. Back to work, you shiftless cousin-f%^^%ers.”

Bigot.
Yeah, this “le” thing is very, very lame. Right up there with Javvvveeeeelin. Or Original le Child le Bomb. Makes Le Now and Then sound almost le quaint.
Bark le Kyber le moho, bark.
Didn’t you work with le Van Jones in le Bay Area?
Le, le, le!
Le, le, le!
Le, le, le, le, le, le, le!
And the cesspool goes rolling along!
Whatever.
Mr. Lucky, you’re right, of course it’s our old friend moho aka javelin aka well, who else? I forget all the aliases because it’s not like anything he writes is terribly memorable or original. The boy has more names for himself than Beezlebub or Sybll – he really needs to get that checked out. I wonder if all his different, yet utterly similiar, malignant personalities get into political discussions with themselves. It would sound just like the MSNBC set.
Really nothing new. About 90% of the anti-conservative posts on PJM are from moho world. There is a wish here, and that is that moho gets some form attention. That’s most of it. The political aspects are just window dressing. A vehicle.
Look at 63. NahnCee. This is another manifestation. It’s all so obvious. Then Lefty and Sigh too. That back and forth. Classic.
There has been one denial of being moho that I can remember in the last year or so, and it blew that as well. At least the rage is directed into a computer keyboard and not into some destructive action. It wants to be found out. That’s part of the design. It’s posting for it’s friends as well so they can giggle about how it gets over on those “conservatards”.
Bark on le Kyber! Van le Jones is asking about le you! Oscar le liar. Le.
OK, this is just incredibly stupid. The only place in Mexico where “Cinco de Mayo” is observed as any kind of holiday is the state of Puebla – and only because it was in Puebla that the Mexican army defeated the French army (and who hasn’t defeated the French. That is the equivilent of somebody in in India not wanting to offend Americans because of some obscure holiday only observed in Wisconsin.
My brother-in-law is of Mexican heritage – both his maternal and paternal grandparents LEGALLY immigrated to the US. His grandparents told him they never even heard of Cinco de Mayo being celebrated as a holiday until years after they moved to the US.
Get over it. It’s just a day in Mexican history that most Mexicans don’t even bother observing – much less celebrating as some big national holiday.
FYI
I’m Arizona State Senator Sylvia Allen. I want to explain SB 1070 which I voted for and was just signed by Governor Jan Brewer.
Rancher Rob Krantz was murdered by the drug cartel on his ranch a month ago. I participated in a senate hearing two weeks ago on the border violence, here is just some of the highlights from those who testified.
The people who live within 60 to 80 miles of the Arizona/Mexico Border have for years been terrorized and have pleaded for help to stop the daily invasion of humans who cross their property . One Rancher testified that 300 to 1200 people a DAY come across his ranch vandalizing his property, stealing his vehicles and property, cutting down his fences, and leaving trash. In the last two years he has found 17 dead bodies and two Koran bibles.
Another rancher testified that daily drugs are brought across his ranch in a military operation. A point man with a machine gun goes in front, 1/2 mile behind are the guards fully armed, 1/2 mile behind them are the drugs, behind the drugs 1/2 mile are more guards. These people are violent and they will kill anyone who gets in the way. This was not the only rancher we heard that day that talked about the drug trains.
One man told of two illegal’s who came upon his property one shot in the back and the other in the arm by the drug runners who had forced them to carry the drugs and then shot them. Daily they listen to gun fire during the night it is not safe to leave his family alone on the ranch and they can’t leave the ranch for fear of nothing being left when they come back.
The border patrol is not on the border. They have set up 60 miles away with check points that do nothing to stop the invasion. They are not allowed to use force in stopping anyone who is entering. They run around chasing them, if they get their hands on them then they can take them back across the border.
Federal prisons have over 35% illegal’s and 20% of Arizona prisons are filled with illegal’s. In the last few years 80% of our law enforcement that have been killed or wounded have been by an illegal.
The majority of people coming now are people we need to be worried about. The ranchers told us that they have seen a change in the people coming they are not just those who are looking for work and a better life.
The Federal Government has refused for years to do anything to help the border states. We have been over run and once they are here we have the burden of funding state services that they use. Education cost have been over a billion dollars. The healthcare cost billions of dollars. Our State is broke, $3.5 billion deficit and we have many serious decisions to make. One is that we do not have the money to care for any who are not here legally. It has to stop.
The border can be secured. We have the technology we have the ability to stop this invasion. We must know who is coming and they must come in an organized manner legally so that we can assimilate them into our population and protect the sovereignty of our country. We are a nation of laws. We have a responsibility to protect our citizens and to protect the integrity of our country and the government which we live under.
I would give amnesty today to many, but here is the problem, we dare not do this until the Border is secure. It will do no good to forgive them because thousands will come behind them and we will be over run to the point that there will no longer be the United States of America but a North American Union of open borders. I ask you what form of government will we live under? How long will it be before we will be just like Mexico, Canada or any of the other Central American or South American countries? We have already lost our language, everything must be printed in Spanish also. We have already lost our history it is no longer taught in our schools. And we have lost our borders.
The leftist media has distorted what SB 1070 will do. It is not going to set up a Nazi Germany. Are you kidding. The ACLU and the leftist courts will do everything to protect those who are here illegally, but it was an effort to try and stop illegal’s from setting up businesses, and employment, and receiving state services and give the ability to local law enforcement when there is probable cause like a traffic stop to determine if they are here legally. Federal law is very clear if you are here on a visa you must have your papers on you at all times. That is the law. In Arizona all you need to show you are a legal citizen is a driver license, MVD identification card, Native American Card, or a Military ID. This is what you need to vote, get a hunting license, etc.. So nothing new has been added to this law. No one is going to be stopped walking down the street etc… The Socialist who are in power in DC are angry because we dare try and do something and that something the Socialist wants us to do is just let them come. They want the “Transformation” to continue.
Maybe it is too late to save America. Maybe we are not worthy of freedom anymore. But as an elected official I must try to do what I can to protect our Constitutional Republic. Living in America is not a right just because you can walk across the border. Being an American is a responsibility and it comes by respecting and upholding the Constitution the law of our land which says what you must do to be a citizen of this country. Freedom is not free.
Sending them home certainly seems to have triggered one.
I used to have a shirt that looked like an American flag–back in the day–when I was in high school. 1969, I guess. Well, they said that I was showing disrespect for the flag and suspended me. I remember being told that “the flag is not a garment to be worn on your back!” They didn’t like me because I had long hair. They thought America and patriotism was only for them. So, this situation puzzles me somewhat. Here’s the bottom line: High school principals are cowards and they will lean on anyone, violate anyone’s rights as long as their own remain intact and it allows them the path of least resistance and even less thought. Were I one of these kids I would be tempted to raise a real fuss, enough of a fuss for the police to show up. When they did, perhaps the principal would ask them to leave the building when s/he saw the flag patches on their shoulders.
Sim: it’s really not that puzzling. Back during the Vietnam Era, wearing flag T-shirts, bandannas, backpacks, etc was seen as disrespectful because the hippies did it as a sign of disrespect. However, social mores have shifted during the last 40 years. Nobody who saw people wearing flag T-shirts after 9/11 thought they were being disrespectful. It was taken as a sign of patriotism.
Your school administrators thought you were showing a lack of respect toward America in 1969. School administrators circa 2010 are afraid that American kids wearing American flags to to an American school are disrespecting Mexico.
Yeah, I know. It’s just a bit ironic, that’s all. People go nuts over the flag thing. In Georgia (where I live) the Republican candidate for Governor ran on promise to restore the Confederate battle flag as part of our state flag. Odd that the party of Lincoln would do such a thing. He was elected but he didn’t put the stars and bars back on the flag–he was just pretending. He’s been pretending to be the governor ever since.
And about the disrespect thing. I was a hippie, no doubt, but was and remain a patriot. That was at heart of their misunderstanding.
From Wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinco_de_Mayo
Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for “fifth of May”) is a holiday held on May 5 that commemorates the Mexican army’s unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín It is celebrated primarily in the state of Puebla and in the United States. While Cinco de Mayo sees limited significance and celebration nationwide in Mexico, the date is observed nationwide in the United States and other locations around the world as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride. Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico’s Independence Day ,the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico.
I think those students should be praised for wearing patriotic shirts since the US is helping observe this celebration of Mexican heritage and pride.
Now if they were wearing french flag shirts….
too bad the people of mexico don’t get into this celebration….only people in the USA trying to sell stuff…
Maybe we can get our Idiot in Chief, Prince Barry of Chicago to say something stupid about this event….
But, apart from that.
1.)You are not a racist for having a proprietary interest in your own country.
2.)You are not a racist for not wanting to give your country away to foreigners.
Only white western countries are burdened with these idiotic notions.
Fᵘck it. I’m burning the Mexican Flag next Cinco caca del toro de Mayo.
Delia for president!!
Thank you kindly, anne but, I have to say, “OH HELL NO!” I ain’t cut out for president of anything except maybe my own imaginary flea circus.
Just a mental exercise here, and I apologize if anyone brought this one up yet…. Does is somehow get a student sent home for wearing a shirt with a Mexican flag on it on the 4th of July?
No way. American kids would be called racists if they made a fuss.
the thing is it might make sense if the kids were wearing FRENCH flags which is what the day is about. but the students, teachers and all concerned have no Idea so another victory for dumming down
To those opining that the kids were deliberately trying to provoke the hispanics (and if the sight of the American flag “provokes” you what are you doing in the US?) here’s the scoop on one of the kids who wore the US flag T-shirt:
at least one of the students was of Mexican descent:
Dominic Maciel said his father is of Mexican descent.
“I have no problem with them wearing their Mexican stuff, their Mexican flags,” said Maciel. “I just thought I’d show my pride. American pride.”
American pride? No, we can’t have that! Alina thinks it’s racist!
That redneck principal sent the students home so he and his assistant wouldn’t go all Easy Rider on ‘em. Since they’re teachers in the Bay Area, probably Deliverance on ‘em as well.
FYI, the principal of Live Oak High School is Nick Boden. His phone number is 408-201-6100 x40102.
Perhaps if it were a FRENCH flag which is what CINCO DE MAYO is about, oh never mind even the hispanic students, not to mention the teachers have any idea. just get sharpton down there to stir the pot.
While the United States was distracted by the Civil War the French quietly invaded Mexico and continually defeated the Mexican army until the Battle of Puebla on Cinco De Mayo (1862) when the ragtag Mexican army under the leadership of Mexican General Ignacio Zaragoza defeated the French. Zaragoza was born in what is now Goliad, Texas in 1829. The place of his birth still stands in Goliad and I have visted it. His picture is on what would be the Mexican equivalent of our $500 bill. The day is little noted in Texas even among those of Mexican descent unlike June teenth when the Black population takes the day off to celebrate. Mostly it is a day for anglos to drink Mexican beer at the end of the work day and have a good time. The French quietly left Mexico at the end of our Civil War and not as the result of any Mexican victory. They saw what Sherman did to Georgia and wanted no part of that.
“176(d) The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery.”
I think it may be that this means an actual flag shouldn’t be fashioned into wearing apparel or a blanket or curtains, not that an image of a flag shouldn’t be placed on those types of items (military uniforms have representations of the flag sewn on them I believe).
Donna V.
Your aspirational post moved me. Would, indeed, that you had the IQ of an artichoke, rather than a fungus. I’m pulling for you. The most hilarious part is the idea that, with your limited cognitive functioning, you would be actually able to tell who won in an argument, rather than simply referring to your own prejudices to guide you to the conclusion. I’m still laughing about that one.
You are laughing because you have tourettes syndrome, not because of anything Donna said. Now, laughing boy, I’m sure there are plenty of playgrounds in your neighborhood that you can go expose yourself at, your welcome here is done.
By insinuating that Donna is stupid (which, by all of her posts blatantly points to the exact opposite of stupid), he totally negated his entire vitriolic post.
ASSHAT
oscar le sleazits
“Your aspirational post moved me…”
Yeah right. “Hilarious”, “still laughing”, attempted gauging of intellect. These are all moho cesspool tags.
Notice the undercurrent of anger. When it’s confronted, it always comes to this. There is a consistency, other than the many name changes that have been used. Maybe they represent something to cling to, besides the occasional flotation device that gets flushed into the sewage system. Quack!
Prepare for yet another le personality. Soon.
Le reminder –
69. skeeziks:
You people are children. You remind me of my granddaughter who yesterday got caught feeding chocolate to Kyber our dog. She knows she’s not supposed to do that. She said, “You don’t know what Kyber likes, only Kyber does.”
Jan 29, 2010 – 9:05 am
“You don’t know what Kyber likes, only Kyber does.” Good dog.
Le Kyber needs a treat. Le Van le Jones will provide. A new government rubber le duck to talk to. Squeeze it le oscar! It speaks your language!
Whatever. Le.
Oscar, we seem to have encountered a cultural misunderstanding, so I thought I might explain how conservative culture works:
First, somebody has an idea/opinion/novel perspective they think might be important to share with others.
People who are so inclined read that article, and if they find a specific point to add or critique, they do so here.
Now, how this works in liberal culture is quite different and should be respected by the other conservatives around here, where there appears to be far too little cultural sensitivity, so may I explain:
ALL CONSERVATIVES: PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING
As a liberal, it is considered polite to open your commentary with a personal attack on a writer/fellow commentator. Be sure the attack has nothing of substance–lest they be offended–but should instead be thought of as a provocation for further discussion (of that person’s character).
Add foul language to indicate you are hip to the people on the street but live in the suburbs.
Refer to inside jokes that only you will understand (once everyone is confused, you are beyond reproach).
Then close with another personal attack. But never, ever, say anything that could ever be confused with a cogent retort. It may make people believe you are uppity and can think for yourself.
More foul language just to keep it real.
To all those blaming the four young men –
Sure these young men were looking for attention. Remember being a teenager?
The V.P blew it. If he weren’t so out there, he could have just watched the situation, and if something arose, diffused it with a “teaching moment” with sodas of choice. If it did come to blows, the person(s) who threw the first punch should have been arrested.
Instead of a quiet 5th of May, we have this V.P created Black Swan.
Mr. V.P let his prejudice get the best of himself.
This is the United States of America. Anyone in the U.S.A. should be allowed to display the American flag on any day and in any way they choose. This is not Mexico. There is not a holiday here called Cinco De Mayo. It is a made-up holiday anyway.
When I was in school, there was an American flag in every classroom. Before the first class every day, we stood with our hands over our hearts and said the Pledge of Allegiance. Do they still teach history in American schools? If so, do they teach students about the Mexican War? If so, the students would know that Mexico LOST the war. The American Southwest does not belong to Mexico. It belongs to the United States of America and there should be only ONE FLAG displayed – the American flag. No one has the right to display any other flag. Did students display the Mexican flag on the 5th of May? If so, kick every one of them out of school after they have apologised to each and every American they have disrespected.
GOD BLESS AMERICA!
WTF is “Cinco de Mayo”? What language you do speak over there now? Pretty hard to be a country that stands for Justice and Freedom if it means everyone just makes up their own rules as they go along. No wonder your country no longer makes it to the top 10 countries for quality of life.
Students, please write an essay on the changing nature of racism in multicultural America: In 1957 President Eisenhower ordered the 101st Airborne division to protect Black students enrolled in an Arkansas from racists. In 2010 Assistant Principal Rodriguez denied an education to five students for wearing American flag apparal because it might offend racists. Discuss how American racism oppressed the Arkansas students and the Principal Rodriguez (20% of your semester grade).
The illustration about St Patrick’s Day and the Union Jack is not valid. The British/UK has a history of several hundred years oppression of Ireland and her people. There is no parallel history. Plenty of Irish-Americans and other hyphen-Americans wear shirts, pins, etc. with the flag of their ancestry crossed with the American flag. This is an American high school, and these kids had every right to wear clothing that was otherwise acceptable. Ms Nunez needs a history lesson, and the administration missed a teachable moment. Not to mention that they’ve given these kids a national platform, made themselves look like incompetent thugs, and given more ammo to the anti-union sentiment.
I wear an American Flag every time I put my uniform on, no matter what holiday it is on where I am in the world. I am an American Soldier!!! I love my country, no matter how many people live here that don’t. These boys whether they were trying to get a rise out of someone or not had every right to wear that flag! When a hispanic group is allowed on any day to put the Mexican flag above ours, in our country, I don’t want to hear a single word about an American being an American. If California dont like I will boycott them out of my house. I would give these boys a medal just for standing up for their rights to be Americans!
Someone tell me to take my flag off our turn it inside out! I DARE YOU!
this is america! if you don’t like it go back to the shithole you came from.
Why should they bother…they are being allowed to turn our country, America, into the same “shithole” they just came from..with blessings from the lawmakers/welfare system of America.
we have men in a war right now from this country ,they are men and weman of all colers and backgrounds , they all fight and die under one flag , if you dont like it go back to were you came from , if you are so proud of mexico and cinco de mayo the border is open you are sure welcome to go back ,it has nothing to do with race , we have a black pres.for gods sake it has to do with pride and if you dont have pride for the flag your men and ladies are fighting for right now , like i said , dont let the door hit you in the butt on the way out !!
America, the land of the free and the home of the brave. Patriotism shouldn’t be censored on any day of the year, ever. Not in this country. If someone wore a Mexican flag, a British flag or any other country on their chest on the Fourth of July, it doesn’t matter. We are everything! Irish, Scottish, German, Dutch, Japanese,African American, American Indian, French, Mexican, Spanish… everything! The Fourth of July celebrates that idea. To say that one person should be censored isn’t right. The same goes for Cinco de Mayo or any other day. Whoever you are, you should be proud of yourself. Our society as a whole puts too much emphasis on social perception. That said, if these five boys did, in fact, wear these shirts to cause a scene, then they deserve the punishment they received.
Of course, the only suitable response by La Raza against the dreaded Gringo interlopers is to continue the ongoing invasion of the despised once-sovereign USA until La Raza’s numbers and high birth-rate overwhelm the people and cultures of the dreaded Gringos and their minions and lackeys until La Raza culture is more than a huge minority but becomes the clear majority and La Raza ethnicity and culture is the norm.
Let the Gringo “push 2″ for English and continue to adapt to La Raza as the USA elite class continues to attain the oligarchy that minority and THEIR minions and lackeys desire and are using We, the La Raza people to attain.
Once the rightful positions within society are attained La Raza will receive its rewards as the days of the Gringo recede into the distant past.
Viva La Raza!!!!!!
We SHALL prevail!!!!!!!!!!!!
The future is ours.
ha ha ha .never happen gang banger
[...] La Raza ethnicity and culture is the norm. [...]
I know, this culture & its values is called “Welcome to the Days Of Ciudad Juarez” -
Obbop – We’ll all be living somewhere else and YOU will have NO more free benefits , no free schooling, free books, free hospital care , free medical care , Aid to Dependent Children , food stamps, free school lunches ,
etc. etc. and few if any JOBS – you stupid ingrate . American is a melting pot of all races . It is not a place for hateful racists like you.
as soon as we cut your welfare and freebies..you’ll leave..
@Obbop….
I invite you to apply immense pressure to my fluid elimination tube, as I do any member of the “La Racist” group of horribly misguided reactionary revolutionary sleazeballs that somehow figure they count in this country. Just because our weakling government, pandering politicians, and a lapdog media give you the impression you have any power at all, I invite you to start your push for “Independence”. . If push comes to shove amigo, your value as a human being will become secondary to how fast you can either Leave, Hide, or end up in a dirt bed. You have no idea how close this is either, you appallingly ignorant usurper of this country’s basic tenants of freedom. You have no clue, nor do your other “La Racist” amigos. However, you keep blathering about your racist programs, and do so while you still can. It, and you, wont last much longer. Now open wide, you pathetic moron tool for marxist hispanic blabbermouths. You are a very tiny fish in a very large pond panzon….keep that in mind.
This was the latest from Morgan Hill, our former neighbor who still lives there. Note: [..] my additions for clearity
“Hi Bob, just came through town [Morgan Hill] and there were a total of 8 cop cars with lights on in the slow lane “protecting” a group of about 100 young mexicans marching on the sidewalk [Old Montery Road, south] towards Dunne Ave shouting “we demand respect”. I wish I could have told them to go back to Mexico if they want respect because causing 8 sheriff’s and MH police cars riding in the slow lane along Monterey Road isn’t the way to get respect. The car in front of me yelled something and they all gave him the finger and yelled nasties at him. Don’t know — trouble is a comming!!!!
have a great week.”
This will be ripe for a riot this weekend in Morgan Hill, as the Mexican Gangs from Gilroy CA will probably join, there will be bloodshed if they do- I’ve seen them in action.
This post is a very effective idiot trap.
It is illegal to wear the US flag. There a few exceptions but most clothing items would seem not to qualify for such an exception.
Please see Title 4 US Code
Chapter 1
Section 8
Sub Section d and j
Certainly ‘makes’ news, stiffens the resolve so polarization will be King — No one asked if the Principal was to be sent home too, for having the American flag flying in front of the school that day, as should be expected here in America.
We used to have the state flag there too.
Perhaps we need a few more articles written to keep people from going out into the world and seeing what such noodling has brought our country to.
For 60 billion dollars a year we should be getting something a lot better than this Punch and Judy show.
Dumb kids…dumb replies.
From the UNITED STATES CODE
TITLE 36 – PATRIOTIC SOCIETIES AND OBSERVANCES
CHAPTER 10 – PATRIOTIC CUSTOMS
“176(d) The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery. It should never be festooned, drawn back, nor up, in folds, but always allowed to fall free. Bunting of blue, white, and red, always arranged with the blue above, the white in the middle, and the red below, should be used for covering a speaker’s desk, draping the front of the platform, and for decoration in general.”
Uh, so all those people who ran out to get T-shirts with American flags on them after 9/11 should have been arrested? Were they unpatriotic? Being disrespectful of the flag.
None but a dolt would think so. While it was considered disrespectful to wear the flag during the 60′s (because the hippies who did so were being disrespectful), mores and customs have changed in the past 40 years. Everyone realizes that. The boys were not kicked out of school for being disrespectful to America, but because they were supposedly dissing Mexico.
But I love how leftists trot out the statute and wave it around like – a flag. Like it’s some big “gotcha.”
Read the code stupid. “The flag should never be used as wearing apparel” AS Wearing apparel. Meaning don’t take an actual flag and wear it. Also it’s a code not law – something you should do, not have to do.
The Noodles at the school who are spineless career educators, steeped in the fine tradition of modern political correctness, choose to imply that the Latinos will pick fights if their ‘special day’ is marred by the sight of the Flag of the country they live in.
The insult all kids by assuming there would be trouble.
They miss a grand opportunity to instill a valuable lesson about tolerance and getting along in the melting pot of our culture.
But no, they step in and do the absolutely worst thing that can be done.
The Latino kids get snidely portrayed as thinned skinned racists.
The white kids get hassled for being patriotic.
The school looks like Idiots.
Your Tax dollars at work.
I gotta tell ya this would make a great South Park episode.
Freedom and Liberty Always!
cinco de mayo is NOT celebrated in mexico, except in Puebla where the battle was fought. it was a single victory over the french army, mexico was eventually occupied by the french. so wearing the american flag is not antagonistic but wearing a french flag would be. hell once the civil war was over the USA helped mexico get rid of the french. how could a school be so ignorant of history
Government school employees are morons. It should be a child abuse felony to leave your child in the care of one of these poltroons.
If only they followed the Flag Code… the boys wearing the colors was in very poor taste and could be considered offensive to any American citizen regardless of the day they choose to wear it.
After reading through all the comments, what saddens me even more than the fact that a symbol of America is seen as a disrespect to people who actually live in America, is the fact that so many people seem unable to debate or disagree without name calling. Opinions are just that, opinions. They are not facts and they are points to be debated. If you disagree with someone, perhaps a well-worded description of your take on the issue with some facts to back you up would make the other person at least consider your point and maybe some intelligent discussion would follow. Maybe one would change the other’s mind, or if nothing else, give them pause to realize that everyone in this country is entitled to their opinion.
I read the above comments as the exact reason why this country has these types of incidents. People can no longer communicate and so the government (and other positions of authority) feel the need to step in and censor actions and speech, lest there be any violence. I happen to agree that these kids have the absolute right to wear the symbol of the country (whether they did it for effect or not) and that anyone who lives in this country should not take offense. If the American students of Mexican heritage (not Mexican students, not Mexican-American) students took offense, then that says to me that they have no idea where they are and what this country offers to them. Sadly, most of our children of families that have been here for many generations also have no idea what this country offers them…the sense of entitlement funs deep in this culture.
I am of Norwegian heritage and fiercely proud of that. But, I am an American first and I don’t get a special hyphenated Norwegian-American line on the census or other official form. I get white. I don’t get my feelings hurt when someone tries to imitate a Norwegian accent or when they make comments about the limited and perhaps, unappealing, variety of Norwegian foods. Apparently, only if your skin is a different color do we have to be politically correct.
When will we wake up and realize it isn’t bigoted or racist to demand people who live here speak the language of this country. If you move to Japan, don’t expect them to start printing government documents in English and offer special classes for non-Japanese speaking students. Are they racist? Are they bigots? No, they have a national language and they use it. If a private business wnats to print things in the languages of potential customers to make them more likely to shop there, fantastic. That is a smart business that understands that there is money to be made catering to non-English speakers. But isn’t that sad?
I welcome any and all immigrants who come here to seek a better life for them or their families. That is why most of us are here, our ancestors came in search of the American dream. You can argue that we have a caste system or haves and have-nots. But their is no official policy demanding that if your father was a janitor that you will be also. You can go to school and you can work anywhere. You can start your own business. However, you aren’t entitled to that. You have to work for it. My great-grandparents didn’t speak English when they got here, but they learned and they demanded that their children learn. No one was bending over to make sure that the Norwegians were accomodated. If they didn’t speak English, they couldn’t compete for jobs and would be limited in so many ways. They recognized this and they did something.
We live in America. If you want to live here, fill out the papers, wait your turn, and welcome aboard. But when you get here, the onus is on you to fit in and make the better life, it isn’t our job to give it to you. Don’t forget where you came from, no one is asking you to turn your back on your culture, in fact you should share and teach others about where you came from and the celebrations and traditions you have. Then take the time to learn ours and you would be amazed how much we have in common. All I ask is that you remember where you are and why you are here…or why your parents came here. I love this country even with all of its faults. I don’t ask that you love it or get out, I ask that you respect it if you want to stay.
Feel free to begin the name calling now…
Hey, school, leave those kids alone. Keep your stupid PC meddling bull out of the school and TEACH the kids how to THINK CRITICALLY, how to READ and WRITE well, teach them math, science, and most importantly, teach them the greatness of their American heritage and founders, as well as a deep understanding of the founders intent ie limited federal government, states rights, the CONSTITUTION and the BILL OF RIGHTS. Teach them how to handle money. Good Lord, get off of your pc hobby horse and enlighten our young people,PLEASE.
If anyone thinks this is action against these student is detesable, just remember that this is just the tip of the icebergh. America is out, God is out, freedom and liberty is out and “big brother government who whants to depress the American identity so that anyone who is not American can just wander, fly, boat, etc into America thumb their noses at our laws and let the government lead them by the hand to the front of the line as our president bows to them and gives them their own little pedistal.” Noe I know that someone will use the RACIST slur, but I don’t care who you are, but come here legally and if you decided to become a citizen, then your former nationality become subordinate to your new identity. Be proud that your, Mexican, French, Iranian, etc., but if your a citizen born here or nationalized then you better be proud that you are an American first. So wear the Mexican fkad on cinco de mayo, but allow a citizento wear the American flag too. Be proud of both, but in different ways.
the American flag will not fly under any other flag meaning the American flag is always regardless of may 5th able to be wore
Jay that is the smartest thing anybody on here has said, straight to the point, and all you bleeding heart liberals read jays comment and then tell me who is right…My flag my country your flag your country now look down are you on american soil,if so salute the flag or get the f@@k out.
Further more dont back down to these bullies they fight in gangs cause they wont fight fair,,fight one bean you fight the whole burrito….
And the progressive creep is in.
They are all “global citizens” after all, don’t you know?
Lexicon from the middle aged ME rich student.
Superiority of having both languages is next.
All govt or govt related jobs will require it.
AND those will be the only jobs, Cali will be first to make it law.
The Mexican kids have no merit in this at all, with their ever changing reasons for their bullying and just to cause a divide, pushing the issue just because they can, stir the pot – always with this ‘you give me what I want’ meme. Media will portray them as the poor visible minority victims. You’d think that with their country in such a mess they’d tone down that ‘better than you – American’ attitude until they really could have pride in a country that does well. LSM makes it work for the Palis and they’ll make it work here.
Why can’t these Mexican kids be better at communication instead of this hostile way? Instead they are acting in a manner that damages their host country’s home, they care not. What’s next progressives – riot and kill, how’d that work in your heritage country?
Why aren’t they in Mexico celebrating with everyone on this ‘very important’ holiday?
Instead more important to bully tshirt/shorts wearing American students wearing American logo clothes?
First is was Mexican Independence Day, then it’s flag day, their heritage wha wha wha – and so on. Facts are not important here.
The flag songs are dedicated to the flag day, it is a national holiday in Mexico. Flag Day is celebrated every year on February 24 since its implementation in 1937. It was established by President of Mexico General Lázaro Cárdenas before the monument to General Vicente Guerrero, first to pledge allegiance to the Mexican flag and Agustin de Iturbide;.

Should take a wiki screen shot before that gets changed to some date with a more progressive “meaning”.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? Last time I checked we lived in AMERICA!! Land of the free!! Not mexico!! I can not believe this even happened but I am furious!! Who gives a crap if it is cinco de mayo!! It is only an excuse for people to get drunk no matter what race you are. I saw a post of a lady saying they dont wear a mexican flag on the 4th of July.. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!! Have you been to Texas??? This is such crap!!!
Really? High-school antics generate this much wasted time? Sure the kids wearing the American flag were wearing it exactly because it was Cinco de Mayo! Shocking! High-school kids doing things to piss other people off.. The bottom line is, the school is not a censor board, the hispanic students need to get over it, and the ADULTS should stop trying to police the world. You are giving the disruptive students exactly what they want, a disruption. If it starts a fight, then they get detention, and assign the whole school more homework. Grow UP.
The American Flag is now officially a white racist flag.
When will Barry change that racist, old, outdated symbol of our Country?
Donald
It saddens me to think that a patriotic display of pride would be viewed as disrespectful or disruptive. Have we forgotten how lucky and how proud we should be of this country. Have we forgotten how many people, fom all nationalities, that have given their last breath in its defense. The intention of the students can only be assumed and not proven but whatever the case the flag of this country should never be hauled down or put in a secondary position to satisfy the whims of politically correct officials and to all those who have served this country their are those of us who thank you and still believe
Is it ‘Cinco de Quatro’ already???
I hate to suggest action, but the kids would win in a law suit. Especially since the kids probably knew more about the holiday then the administration did.
I’m not one for lawyers but can somebody say i want a lawyer. The next sound you should hear is the tap of a keyboard from the Vice principal and the Principal signing up for unemployment . They should be fired after all this is America displaying the flag is never and i mean NEVER a bad thing no matter what day of the year. The American flag is always higher up on the flag pole than any other flag.
Liberals educators like “blanco”-bashing and they’re too weak make their “La Raza” students behave anyway– it’s “social justice,” you know!
It’s a government controlled school for hell’s sake, what is everyone expecting?-basic competence?
“Soft racism” indeed. Of course those passionate but ignorant Mexican students would not be able to control themselves (OOPS – did they just communicate that out loud??) Better to outlaw the American flag and trample other student’s rights because they’re just so simple-minded and volatile (OOPS – did they just communicate that out loud??)
Left-wingers see themselves as elites, and everyone else as ignorant simpletons who need to be controlled (and, if possible, grouped and USED en masse.)
Anyone remember the big stink made prior to the release of Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ”, btw? Nooo! You CAN’T release that! There will be bloodshed in the streets because Christians will blame Jews for crucifying Jesus and lash out. Never mind that Christians belief says that yes, Jews were the human agents who handed him over, but it was our own sins that put Jesus there according to God’s plan. They look no deeper than their stereotype of simple-minded zealots and seek to control, control, control “for our own good.”
There is no time when the American Flag in not appropriate in this country. Since the Mexican or Puerto Rican children are attending school in America and reaping the benefits, they should not mind the American Flag unless they are not Americans or not very grateful. If I were going to school in Mexico, and celebrating the 4th of July, I would assume that I would see Mexican flags at the same school as I was attending.
The leftist Teachers Union has , once again, turned an opportunity to join both cultures together in a happy event into a divided and angry mob situation for political gain.
America is the most generous, caring and protecting country in the world. No other country on this planet gives and shares what we do , certainly not Mexico or Puerto Rico. They have allowed themselves to be abused by corrupt governments and leaders. We should be happy to help them but we do not deserve ingratitude and stupid charges that we are racists. Maybe we should charge that they are greedy ingrates who have been given an opportunity at freedom and education and then spit in the face of there benefactors.
Blanco bashing………that’s EXACTLY what’s going on here, and leftie blanco administrators are behind it.
While we can all agree that the school administrators are idiots, let us not fail to give credit to the higher-up school DISTRICT officials who, according to the news video clip that I viewed, said that the school administrators were in the WRONG. It would be comforting to hear that the higher-ups were imposing some sort of punishment on the school administrators, but I’m not holding my breath. But still, give them one cheer for upholding the rights of these kids to wear american colors.
the student is quoted as saying “THEY shouldn’t disrespect US. WE wouldn’t do that on July 4.”
er…WE? THEM? this is America. we are all Americans. just because you are of Mexican heritage doesn’t mean you’re not #1 above all an American. I mean, where does she think she’s living? if she doesn’t feel allegiance to this country, then I suggest she keep it to herself and not annoy the rest of us with it.
ditto the lily-livered school administrators. honestly, where do they FIND these people?
Here are the email addresses if anyone wants to send their thoughts:

First of all, according to the local TV Station, none of the kids wearing “patriotic” clothes were suspended. The school administrators are in a tough position…there has been a lot of racial tension at this particular school, and these students, no matter what they say, knew exactly how hostile their act was. Yes, ideally, wearing the US flag on your clothes should be no big deal….so WHY did they make the point of wearing these shirts this one day of the year??
Apparently last year there were issues when students were waving US flags on May 5th…again, shouldn’t be a big deal, but these students were being deliberately hostile to the Latino community, imo. School administrators are trying to keep students safe…though you could argue that this may not be the best way to go about it, the issue is more complex than the article lets on:)
Finally, no matter how you feel, espousing racist language and blaming “liberals” makes you look like the asshole. If I see one more person proclaim “they” (meaning hispanics, I guess) should kiss the US flag, or liberals are to blame for the Country losing it’s identity I’m going to puke. You assholes aren’t proud, you’re racist and you’re scared of losing your privilage.
Firstly, waving the flag of the country you’re in is NEVER hostile except to a Leftist muthaF*cking retard. If the ‘Latino’-'community’ consider themselves AMERICANS, the American flag is not some affront to their delicate refried bean swastika sensibilities.
If by your saying a minority white student body wears American flag symbols or waves American flags as inciting violence from the Mexican school body of children then you are basically calling Mexicans thugs who will riot and be violent.
IMHO, I think Mexicans waving Mexico’s flags is DELIBERATELY hostile to Americans. Should Americans protest Mexicans? Maybe we should! Bout fricking time too after you leave your sewers from Mexico only to create new ones in the USA. Nice.
As far as my ‘privilege’ of being white? I grew up dirt poor from a mother who lost her own father before she was born in a coal mining accident and her step-father her mother married after being widowed with 2 daughters was a pedophile who not only molested my auntie and mother but molested his own flesh and blood daughter when she was born. He later molested his own grandchild (me) when I was little. My mother went on to pick the wrong men over and over and we were always poor and on welfare.
I no longer speak to my mother.
My bio-father hasn’t been even an inkling in my life since he tried to rape me when I spent one horrible summer with him when I was 15.
People come from all kinds of backgrounds who are Conservatives.
I’m all over the place with my political beliefs and therefore I gain the ire of both sides of the political spectrum. But, one thing nobody can accuse me of is being a party-line panderer or not speaking my mind.
Sometimes, the truth is just not politically correct and we’ve been so brain-washed into wincing over every little truth that might wound someone’s feelings that we forget they are even truths any longer.
Ignoring truths (even little ones) weaken us as a people and as a Country.
We need to cut through the bull.
“but these students were being deliberately hostile to the Latino community, imo.” And that opinion is based on what, other than your own prejudices against those boys?
“Finally, no matter how you feel, espousing racist language and blaming ‘liberals’ makes you look like the asshole. If I see one more person proclaim “they” (meaning hispanics, I guess) should kiss the US flag, or liberals are to blame for the Country losing it’s identity I’m going to puke. You assholes aren’t proud, you’re racist and you’re scared of losing your privilage.”
What a shame, you almost were speaking like someone who had a point to make… then you had to revert to ad hominem attacks and typical *liberal* talking points. Yeah, I said it — if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it ain’t an elephant. If you come here and wave the “you’re scared of losing your privilege” flag, don’t expect any thinking people to take you seriously. The choir of liberals will say “amen,” the unbelievers will continue to ignore you, and the folks for whom you espouse hatred will leave you as they found you; sick, bitter and twisted.
I love how this has turned into a race thing.. imagine that.. Mexicans can run around tattooed with brown pride wearing mexican flags and thats cool yet if i wear an American flag shirt im racist guess the white pride tat is out of the question.. it gets better in high school they had asian clubs and black clubs and thats all cool but a few white kids want to have a surf club and everyone is up in arms.. O no cant have that everyone might think its a klan meeting… i guess i cant turn to WET you know White Entertainment TV thats racist but BET is cool… all you fuckers screaming racism better look in the mirror you bunch of ignorant fucks… and for those bitching about some kids wearing an american flag shirt go fuck yourself if you have a problem with the flag go to another country we dont want you!
You remind me of Hitler, only less articulate.
Wearing the flag at any point in time is disrepectful, so this really is a moot argument to begin with.
(d) The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery. It should never be festooned, drawn back, nor up, in folds, but always allowed to fall free. Bunting of blue, white, and red, always arranged with the blue above, the white in the middle, and the red below, should be used for covering a speaker’s desk, draping the front of the platform, and for decoration in general.

Clothing or symbols which show obscene pictures or gestures, sexually suggestive statements, swear words, substances illegal to juveniles (tobacco, alcohol or drugs), weapons, words/pictures depicting death, violence or gore.
This is from the school dress code as reason for discipline…hmmm….I don’t see no prohibition for the Stars and Stripes….
I sent the principal an email suggesting he apologize to the students punished and to the entire student body. This would be a great civics lesson for them on how authority figures act when they are wrong…..
It seems there are some who think that apparel depicting the United States Flag should be banned from being worn on certain days of the year in the United States. Heh, Heh, Heh, this is too funny.
I have a few choice words (expletives) I’d personally direct at those idiots running that school, but out of courtesy to the public eye reading this, I’ll refrain.
…My question is: every school I’ve ever seen in the US, they fly the US flag, and beside it, whichever state flag the school is in.
Did these @ssholes in California actually take down the American flag that day and fly a Mexican flag instead?
If not, then they’re nothing more than petty hypocrits if they’re punishing these boys for doing the same thing: proudly wearing the same symbol of their nation that the school also had flying that same day, a US flag that was also, that same day, probably present in the principal’s office, auditoriums, cafeterias, libraries, and several classrooms of that same school.
…or is it such a crime now in California to praise America, that American flags just aren’t allowed inside California schools, either?
Governor Arnold should be ashamed of this.
I suppose they would’ve thrown a fit if anyone in the US military just happened to be in the vicinty of that school in uniform: would the school have cried a storm about the fact that there was a US flag worn on a US military uniform in California on this alcoholiday?
Wouldn’t it be nice if those of us who DO wear the uniform of America, could tell all these flag haters that, “Since you don’t love my flag 365 days of the year, I’m not going to defend your freedom 365 days of the year”.
Fortunately, we US service members are obviously of higher ideals and ethics than the people running schools like this in California, because we continue to proudly wear our flag everyday despite our different nationality backgrounds, religious beliefs, favorite holidays, or our skin color.
Arnold should fire every last one of that school board who told those boys they should be ashamed for what they did.
No American should be made to feel ashamed for supporting the American flag in the very country that flag represents.
If the school is sooo offended by the American flag, then don’t give them any American (government) money. The American money may “offend them”. You want pesos? 1 peso = $0.08
Only Mexican Americans are permitted to wear apparel depicting the Flag of the United States on May 5th, all others will be punished for the crime of insensitivity and confrontation.
Heh, Heh, Heh.
I know in Colorado, they flew the mexican flag over the US flag at North high school and made the white, red and blacks stay home.I am red and couldnot go to school in my own country.Mexicans are not red but europeans who speak a western european lang.TThey had posters in the school send all europeans back. I guess they can send themselves back.If you can read the conquestador’s diaries they killed the aztec off and that was tought for 400 years. Now mexico says we found one million 30 miles from mex city that dressed like us and live amoung us but we didn’t know they were aztec???I can fly my flag any day send they mexican europeans to spain and portugal.
This truly stems from historical events tied to the Civil and Franco-Mexican War. This is a deep political debate concerning the quasi-conquering/politically domineering actions of both France and the United States of America. These kids wearing these shirts, whether they realize this or not is moot. The point is that kids wearing shirts on May the 5th has no bearing whatsoever on the Franco-Mexican War, and definitely nothing to do with the Civil War. If you want something to complain about, complain about civil rights or the imperial actions of nations, not what a school can tell kids to wear or not. This is their responsibility that they have to deal with every day, not yours. Simply because several children were reprimanded for wearing patriotic attire on a day in which it would be more intelligent to act with political sensitivity you all argue about your opinions and ignore the facts. Who the hell’s life is that saving? No one got hurt, so get over it.
No, your nonsensical, PC-blathering masquerading as political/historical “analysis” is precisely the kind of bad thinking that fosters racial and ethnic polarization by placing everyone in carefully calibrated grievance groups. And this little display at the local high school is the logical extension of that hateful practice. To even raise the idea that any of this has the slightest thing to do with the Civil War, the Franco-Mexican war or even the War of the Roses only makes you look utterly foolish. This is all about one of the cherished tenets of leftist-multiculturalism: that race/ethnicity is destiny and that trumps all else – including the quaint notion that when one comes to this country and gains citizenship you’re supposed to leave all your petty ethnic/tribal/cultural baggage at the front door.
Cinco de Mayo???? Don’t you mean Cinco de Quattro?? Just ask Obambi.
ok so some kids had american flag tshirts on in an american school, lets get all pissed off!who cares if we wear american flags on some other countrys “holiday”! the whole point is this is america!!!! do we take our flags down for any other countrys liberation? NO!now i’ve been to iraq twice, both times i had an american flag sewed onto the front of my flack jacket! you think i’m gonna remove my flag cause it ofends some iraqie??? fuck no james!!! i’m an american! i fight for america, and any one who wants to tell me im wrong can go do what i do!
It doesn’t matter why they did it… What matters is the way the school handled it. Maybe the Vice Principal should be called a racist..after all isn’t he insisting they take off shirts to prevent fights? Is he trying to say hispanics are violent? I would be angry. There is no reason that anyone should ever have to take their shirt off because of a flag. These days if you wear a flag or something religious your clothing may as well say F-U because some spineless cry baby is offended. We aren’t talking about a KKK shirt or something that literally screams threat or hatred.
We are becoming “America, home of the wuss”….we are offended by anything and everything. God help us, soon the NFL will be replaced with Powder Puff Football and we’ll fight wars with glitter.
The school administrators screwed up. It should be o.k. for kids to wear American symols, Mexicans symbols, or any other national symbols on any day of the year. And, that should not offend anyone. If there are people out there who are offended by someone wearing, for example, a Mexican flag t-shirt, and they start trouble with a kid wearing the t-shirt, then it’s the people who start the trouble who should be kicked out of the school, not the kid wearing the Mexican flag t-shirt.
The students involved should have realized from experience that the sight of an American flag is offensive to any public school official in California.
I see it like this the principal was scared to say that they are proud to be a US Citizen. I am sorry but this country is selling out our culture. It all started when you call a USA company and you get press 1 for spanish. We got idiots in power all over with no common sense. It goes from the schools all the way up to the idiot of president we have. They have no love for this country or they would not see rights stripped away from Americans while our soldiers fight for freedom overseas for other countries.
Them students had the first admendment taken away from them. We need people to preserve our heritage not another country. I do not care that Mexicans fought against overwhelming odds or what not. I say if you want to wear a AMerican Flag In the USA do it any day of the week and if they do not like then they need to leave the country. That principal needs to be removed from his or her position. They need to be kicked out of the USA. I applaud them students for not wanting to hide the flag. Be proud of the USA or get out it is that simple.
It is not Cinco de Mayo. It is May 5th. We don’t celebrate May 5th anymore than in Mexico they celebrate the 4th of July or Thanksgiving. Mexicans can celebrate it at home, or after school and work or in their own country. Americans have our own holidays. This isn’t one of them.
Four boys were wearing American flag shirts on Cinco de Mayo, which is the Mexican independence day. Note- they use to not celebrate this day until this generation, because it was a sad day for spain. All four of the boys were asked to turn their shirts inside out, but the boys tried to argue on their perspective. Two of the boys were sent back to class, but two were sent home, because the American flag on their shirts were very visible. This is a democracy to American. The Mexican children from the high school stated that those four kids were disrespecting them,. but honestly the Mexican children are disrespecting us by saying that, and the principle is disrespecting our nation! How is it disrespect to Mexicans when this is America and our flag represents freedom. Didn’t they come to our nation wanting to better “their” lives, so why is it so wrong for us to represent our country? If we were in Mexico and went to their high school on fourth of July, a Mexican child were a Mexican flag t-shirt on our day, but would it be the same? Would it disrespect us??? No, it would not, because that is their country. This is expose to be a free country, but the principal and whoever else is trying to take that away from us. We should be able to be proud to where something representing America any day of the year, because America is probably the best country of the world or why would so many others want to live here so bad? So why is it wrong?? How is it disrespect. That day is not just their day, it is everybody’s day. The American flag should be represented everywhere, because it refers to this land of the free and where people have an opportunity to have a better life, and if the Mexican children have such a big problem with it then they should go back home, because this is America and it is expose to be land of the free. Some people state that it would cause fights, but that is not right, because the children wanting to fight over us representing the country they so called “love”, then they need to be kicked out of school and get their priorities straight! It has nothing to do with the fact that the boys was wearing a shirt to represent America, but because people have racism and hatred in their hearts. I seen the boys on the Fox channel news and they did not look like they wanted to offend anyone, but to represent the country of good, and even if they did do it out of hate then those Mexican children should just be thankful that they are here to better their lives in stead of fight about things that do not matter. Do not make a democracy out of the United States of America! Help fight and blog and vote at Foxnews.com. This is wrong and we need to fight for our country and be heard, because I thought their would never be the day that they took away the freedom to wear and represent our country on any day of the year! This is America! What do you all think? Agree or disagree? and BTW my husband is from Argentina and he also thinks this is BS
Totally Agree!
Simply put. This is America, irregardless of what country you came from. Love it or leave it!
So now political correctness dictates that I can not wear the flag on St. Patricks Day because some drunken Irishman might take offense. Then of course there is Columbus Day, so not to offend any of my Italian friends I won’t wear the flag, but then how about Labor Day, better be careful that day also, don’t want to upset any union thugs wearing or waving a flag, unless of course I can prove it is “union made.”
These boys may very well feel like many of us who are sick and tired of having division forced on us by special interest groups. That they wear the symbol of this country and that offends anyone of Mexican descent is pure crap. It is not disrespectful to Mexicans and if so then go home to Mexico. Don’t like it there? Thank your lucky stars for the American flag if not for it you’d be at the hands of poverty, corruption, and cartels that are raping Mexico of its dignity. The American Flag symbolizes the freedom you enjoy and honors those who have spilled their blood in the mud to liberate people worldwide from tyranny. If you can’t see that and are still offended by these boys wearing their pride then you don’t deserve the freedom or safety you enjoy.
Its America Stupid,
Celebrate bein Mex all you want !!!
But do it in a non-inflamatory way, like most ethnic groups in Our Country.
Thanks for the info in this article.
Culture should be abolished in the wake of a collective synergy of people working together with empathy amidst a diverse context to find ways for optimal profit for everyone involved. If culture insists it needs its boundaries, demarcations, ego profiles, and so on, then when a member of one culture is in the land of another culture, though one should expect to be respected, it should be a matter of peership, not preferential treatment.
Even if it is meant as a challenging and contentious statement, even within a ‘public school’, it is better that a group of teenagers made a decision to consciously determine the symbolism of their shirts, and with a degree of staunch support, and against an apparent grain of consensus trend–than to simply inhibit or wear symbols without question.
I could care less about what symbols are being fought over; i support the ability to burn a flag if need be, or to burn any symbol, mexican flags, bibles, whatever, as one’s legal right to choose as a method of expression. However, I don’t support burning, squelching, or defaming one symbol simply for the aggrandizement of another.
Either drop the symbol and culture wars or to hell with any culture seeking to dominate or be given special status above others.
This is all a game, we get so caught up and competetive that we kill, steal, offend, and victimize one another in an endless series of retaliatory compulsions. Half of the fundamental problem lies in the macro policies of politics, banking, and ‘world’ economics, not mexicans vs. americans.
Let’s be real; what would help this whole contentious situation remarkably would be to end the drug war, end the practices of NAFTA which destroy local farmers of both countries. If this were implemented the gang violence and wealth, the impetus for immigration, etc, would be quickly reduced, even if you left the border totally wide open.
I am not a fan of mexican culture, I am not a fan of American culture. In fact most of this macho self stroking sickens me; like two dogs trying to hump each other for alpha status.
That said:
I don’t think it is unwarranted to understand that within the frame of this school situation, the administrator’s decision was wrong on a number of levels. It is racist to assume that an American flag on May 5th would offend hispanics…racist to hispanics. It is racist to assume that hispanics simply must give a f$%^^ about this commercial holiday, anyway. It is racist for hispanics to be offended by an American wearing an American emblem. It is racist to make policy assumptions based upon a perceived threat. If a fight would occur because some immature culture-ridden ego can’t handle symbol competition, that instigator should be dealt with.
I don’t like bible thumping a$$holes, but i don’t hate bibles; in other words, unless someone is targeting me specifically to persecute, there is no reason i should be concerned about a symbol they are wearing.
To pander to the lowest common denominator, namely retarded elements of our society which can’t deal with world frames outside of their cultural agenda, is a disgrace to the potential of human kind regardless of cultural/genetic background.
Its like anything, if someone doesn’t care to empathize and analyze with full intelligence and consideration, a situation, to step outside of themselves without disregarding themselves–to holistically approach toward the most sincerely comprehensive solution, then they are awful bastards that deserve absolutely no favors from anyone else.
And yes, it is true that whites can be racially descriminated against. And no it makes no sense to try to take over whitey because some poor kids’ great great grandfather was a prick. Holy God its time the media driven programmed pathological mind gets pulled out of the asses of the masses. Do something positive, uplift your neighbor as you would yourself..and if you lack self love and respect, learn to develop yourself before pushing out with a political or cultural attitude.
Always the choice to not meditate, but to react–never deal with the imbalance inside, no no, we must run away from that, distract ourselves with the ‘other’.
Let’s see if I get this straight.
The kids were sent home because their American flag t-shirts were deemed “incendiary” and their sight might provoke fightings.
Now let’s read between the lines: “If some idiot decides to pick a fight with you using your clothes as an *excuse* we cannot protect you from bullies. We can’t even discipline them for breaking a major rule. Therefore, we are going to blame you.”
While they are at it, would they also recommend women not to wear mini-skirts as such garments might cause them to be raped?
(I know that’s not how it works, ok? I’m just saying that their argument sounds frightfully close to “she was wearing skimpy clothes/trying to look beautiful, of course she deserved to be raped”)
Sorry for the double post, I forgot to add my two cents to the “remember high school” debate.
While I was in high school, the left-wing coalition won the national elections. I went to school the next day wearing a black shirt. Now, in my country “black shirt” is a synonim for Fascist.
Was I trying to stir up trouble or make a statement? No, I just opened my closet that morning, saw my black shirt hanging there and thought “oh, I haven’t worn that in a while, let’s put it on today.”
Later on, I even joked to a Communist friend about how some people could take it the wrong way and beat me up. Her response? “Naah, don’t worry. If they’re that stupid, I’ll protect you.”
I never imagined it could actually come to this.
If I had to guess the kids’ thought process, I’d bet on something like:
Kid1: tomorrow is a Mexican holiday-thingy. Everyone will wear Mexican flags.
Kid2: let’s be different, let’s wear American flags!
Kid: 1, 3,4: yay!
The law of our land protects you now, make enough problems, wave enough bandera del nopal y aguila y serpiente, verde, blanco y roja and the law will not protect you later.
Come in peace, come in good fellowship and a desire to become a North American Unidos Estados and we can be Paisano, vatos and say to each other “Mi Casa, Su Casa.”
Si usted viene como un invasor, entonces se reunirá con el Winchester M-94 30/30 y Jesús llorar.
Your Choice Amigo/Amiga.
Everyone is looking at the kids; no one is looking at the vice principal or any school officials.
Regardless of their “authority”, it is simply wrong to send American kids home for displaying the American flag in an American school paid for by American taxpayers.
Seeing people wearing Che shirts or the Soviet hammer & sickle gets me mad. Seeing illegal aliens demanding American “civil rights” gets me mad. Hearing LULAC or La Raza spokespersons denigrate the USA, then demand more from the USA gets me mad.
If the vice principal and the school officials don’t like to see the American flag, they can move to the United States of Mexico.
F**k Mexico and Mexicans. I hope that offended you.
Cinco de Mayo, means nothing!!!! It’s just an excuse for people (Any nationality) to get drunk!!
Ah, yes… I have lost my faith in humanity again… NOT from these kids, but from these comments.
It’s not about flags, it’s about the attitudes represented by those flags.
What the administrators did was to follow the decoy– they did nothing to address the underlying attitudes.
None of these kids were taught anything about kindness and how to respect each other in a plural society.
Historically, the day is just a way to remember the Mexicans kicking some French ass: http://www.history.com/topics/cinco-de-mayo
Napoleon’s nephew took a whuppin’– who can’t get behind that?
None of the issues that came up at this school were relevant to the holiday. The holiday was just used as an excuse to lay some bait and see who would bite.
You throw some meat in the water when the sharks are circling and you’re bound to get some action.
It’s not about free speech or rights or anything. It’s about throwing sparks into the right tinderbox and enjoying the blaze.
People at that school– adults and kids, of all ethnicities– need to learn how to control their reactions. Their behavior doesn’t reflect well on any POV they claim to defend.
“None of these kids were taught anything about kindness and how to respect each other in a plural society.”
Therein lies the problem: We don’t live in a “plural society.” We live in America, where, as others have said, you’re supposed to check your cultural baggage at the door.
Celebrate your differences? Sure. But allow those differences to define you? That’s when the problems start.
Exactly right, Kev.
I agree with everything you said, Kev, but when people define themselves by their differences is actually the best time to start teaching kindness.
There are better ways to solve our problems than through flinging our cultural baggage at each other, right?
It takes more strength of character to not take the bait than to duke it out.
Also- conceptually and philosophically I agree that there are problems with the “plural society” and it’s not the ideal state of affairs, especially here in America, but I would argue that we’re stuck with a plural society here in California, whether we like it or not. We best deal with it.
We have people dividing themselves into interest groups and I think that kindness and understanding are the best first steps, but we should feel free to disagree and criticize as well.
I just think High School teachers should be walking the talk and being examples of constructive problem solving and understanding attitudes, especially if they don’t want things getting “incendiary.”
Any real leadership or good modeling was sorely lacking at Morgan Hill. That’s all.
I work in the Oakland public schools, so that’s my perspective.
If you’re still interested there’s a good plural society essay over here: http://www.lausti.com/focus/2001/malik.html
A quote: “A truly plural society would be one in which citizens have full freedom to pursue their different values or practices in private, while in the public sphere all citizens would be treated as political equals whatever their private beliefs. Today, however, pluralism has come to mean the very opposite. The right to practice a particular religion, speak a particular language, follow a particular cultural practice is seen as a public good rather than a private freedom.” –Kenan Malik
If the Mexicans dislike out flag so much why the hell did they jump the border to this side in the first place. I agree, F**k em. If they don’t like it they can get the f**k back over the border.
And people call Americans racist…We are not even allowed to represent out own flag in our own country. Maybe immigration laws need to be revamped a bit.
Are you kidding me?? The American flag not allowed on any day? Cinco de Mayo what? I understand this is one of their “holidays”, but don’t presume to think that the American flag has no right to be worn, flown, or otherwise displayed on ANY day. This is the United States of AMERICA!!! And to tell them to turn their shirts inside out? Whoever told them to do that needs to rethink his loyalty to OUR freedoms.
we are americans i was not born anywhere else so i dont think anything but the american flag is necessary.i am proud to be an american and i have no need to show any other flag other then the american flag,if a person is an american, there flag should be the american flag.i personnally think the kids point was that they are AMERICANS and nothing else.
why were they celebrating cinco demayo in school as if it were a holiday,we are in america that is another countrys heritage.that should be left home.and if the school was worried about tension then they definately shouldnt be celebrating another countrys holiday.thats fine to have pride in your heritage but it is just that, now they are on american soil saying they all want to be americans if that is so then american flags and culture should be number one.
Hey Jack. You are implying that because the vice principle has a Spanish surname he is not Caucasian? All “Spanish” names come from Spain and the Spanish are as Caucasian as you are. French, Italian, Greek, Spanish, British, etc – all Caucasian.
As for Mexico, almost all of the indigenous people of Central America took Spanish names after conquest of that part of the world by Spain (there are very few Jose Tezcatlipocas in Mexico – a native Toltec name). Today about 70- 80% of Mexicans with Spanish names are actually of mixed race – Spanish Caucasian mixed with the race of the indigenous people – the resulting combination is sometimes referred to as Mestizo. The rest are either pure Spanish or pure descendants of the Aztec, Mayan, Toltec or other culture.
In the great waves of immigration from Europe to the Americas over the last two centuries, not many people from Spain came directly to the US as it was easier to go to Central or South America and not have to struggle with the language. So we are not very knowledgeable about this and the eroneous association of Spanish names with a particular race is widespread – even throughout our government.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mestizo
I’m sorry but you really shouldn’t use wiki as a source…
First the “Mestizo” is a completely made up and fantasy “race”.
You can tell this by the its called “mestizo” after mexico…
The vast major of ppl in central American are of mixed race but most are not mixed from native populations any more then ppl in the US are…
This mythic race that is the mexican or “mestizo” is just that mythic. The vast majority of natives that lived in central American died out due to disease, war, starvation. They didn’t cross breed with the spanish… The vast majority of current mexicans are spanish or aka WHITE… claiming “mestizo” stats is like hitler in 1930 claim that germans are a separate race… its pure fantasy.
I didn’t say Mestizo was a race, a word that has an official anthropological meaning. Besides racial categories are just made up anyway. If you go back far enough there was only one “race” but at some point specific groups evolved with different characteristics and were subsequently categorized by academics of the day. The point is that most Mexicans are of mixed descent – combining ancestors from the people indigenous to the Americas with those who came here from Europe post 15th century. Since you seem to think that this was not the case, then tell me what else was there to be mixed?
“I didn’t say Mestizo was a race, a word that has an official anthropological meaning.”
Really see it a whole lot here…
“Today about 70- 80% of Mexicans with Spanish names are actually of mixed race – Spanish Caucasian mixed with the race of the indigenous people – the resulting combination is sometimes referred to as Mestizo.”
“The point is that most Mexicans are of mixed descent – combining ancestors from the people indigenous to the Americas with those who came here from Europe post 15th century. Since you seem to think that this was not the case, then tell me what else was there to be mixed?”
You do understand that it wasn’t get the spanish that lived in mexico…. many german and other euro nationals had large amounts of ppl goto mexico… also lets not forget the massive amount of black slaves that went to both mexico and latin America… a number which same guess is 50x-90x more then what went to the US.
Claiming that mexicans are somehow a “mixed race” with is indigenous ppl under your guidelines would mean that ppl from the USA would also be in such that manner. This classic myth that somehow the spanish how more “mixed race” babies is just that a classic myth… they do so like every euro coming to the same land… in fact one could wager they did less.
Much of the indigenous ppl in mexico were wiped out by plague, war, starving, etc. The idea that mexico is any more “mixed race” then anyone else is just a historic myth created by racists for racist propaganda.
“Besides racial categories are just made up anyway.”
I agree.
Non-Spanish Europeans did not start coming to Mexico until hundreds of years after the Spanish thoroughly intermingled with the native peoples. In any case, I am not sure where this is going and we probably agree more than disagree.
I was just reacting to someone’s statement that the name Rodriguez was obviously not Caucasian. Racial categories do more harm and very little good – especially when governments like ours embrace identity politics.
And speaking of politics, I remember Faux Presidential Candidate Pat Paulson saying that most problems in North America are a result of a very unenlightened immigration policy on the part of the indigenous people.
By law, it has been established that you can wear the flag as (or on) clothing. You can even go so far as to burn the flag in protest! Freedom of expression is constitutionally protected. Did the school take down the American flag that is required (by law) to be raised every day that school is in session? Did they raise the Mexican flag?
There is only one America. There can only be one America. History tells us that a divided nation is a nation in discord. Serbs and Croats, Checks and Poles, Germans and Jews.
I don’t give a damn where your from, you are here now. When you join the American military, no matter who you are, you fight as an American. You bleed as an American. You die as an American.
Any kind of patriotic cowardice, is cowardice. You don’t want to offend brand x, well now you have offended brand A.
If the sight of the American flag ever offends you, in any situation? Come see me. I will personally pay for your moving expenses to anywhere else in the world. Politically correct coward. That is all that you are.
Why would American be offended because of the students wearing shirts with our nations colors? Simply put, this is the U.S.A. irregardless, and it should never be a crime to be proud of our country, which the colors represent. Even on another countries “celebrated” event, this is still in America and should never be a cause for punishment.
It is NOT disrespectful to display our countries colors IN our own country, simply put.
Its funny how so many people get offended about celebrating for “their” country, how proud they are for “their” country and yet look at where they live? Where they are supported, what countries systems the are living within. They refuse to live in their own country and want all the rights, privileges and laws that our countries has to offer so they can disrespect OUR country, shown clearly by the group that actually marched in the town because they didnt like several students showing their support for the country they live in.
If they felt displaying our countries colors is disrespectful – irregardless of ANY day of the year – displayed within this nations borders, they should rethink where they live and go back to where they feel they are so proud of, where they can display their pride and heritage in their own borders – and THEN they can complain if someone doesnt agree with what they are celebrating. But then again, how many “other” countries would even allow them to contest something? How many of their governments would have allowed them to march out of school and go to a government institute and complain?
They take their freedoms and rights in this country for granted.
The bottom line is this is the United States. Not Mexico,or England there is one flag over this country.A flag that generations of people have died to keep flying high.If you want to fly your flag go back to your country,
otherwise welcome to the United States which is made up of people from all over the world.
Latino’s in Texas do not get upset on San Jacinto day when Texas won it’s independence from Mexico. Most are happy to be Texans and Americans where they can raise their families in a peaceful and prosperous country.
Or of course “cinco de Cuatero” as the brilliant intellectual President Odumbo would call it. Here is a question ‘Did the school lower the American Flag on the Cinco de Mayo ?????” You know out of respect for and not to antagonise their Mexican students I mean if students wearing patriotic clothing antagonises and insults Mexican (Americans??) surely the SCHOOL AUTHORITIES MUST have done that too after all by flying the Imperialist dominators American flag over the WHOLE SCHOOL is surely a much bigger insult to Mexicans (Americans??). Or are they as we know they are just a bunch of pathetic HYPOCRITES.
For those of you who say the American flag is used as a statement, I have one thing to add…..you betcha! It’s been a statement since 1777 (when it was adopted as our national flag)!
School officials were clearly wrong and should publicly and formally apologize to the students, their community, and to all Americans.
The school district did send an official communication saying they were investigating the incident and officials’ response to it, but it contained no apology. What I find hilarious is this statement: “We know that this is an emotionally charged topic. We would ask you to encourage your students to be safe and focus on their academics while in school.” See http://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local-beat/School-District-American-Flag-Clothing-Incident-Extremely-Unfortunate-93065324.html
“Focus on their academics while in school” — what a radical concept for California educators promoting observance of Cinco de Mayo!
Mexican-American’s are still American’s, why would they object to someone wearing the American flag? unless the Mexican’s-American’s hate their country.
Just cops doing their job:

Nothing happening here Move along. Andale.
One of those badges looked Hispanic.
Just sayin’
Hispanic on Hispanic, Black on Black crime is highest.
Again…
Just sayin’
Did this guy resist arrest?
A group of cops don’t take down a thug with brute force who is being a law-abiding citizen.
Rodney King was flying high on drugs.
Be real, man.
There’s a difference between subduing suspect and beating a defenseless man. Until you’re willing to admit that, you may as well walk down to the local synagogue and yell, “Achtung, Juden!”
skeeziks 267. “There’s a difference between subduing suspect and beating a defenseless man.”
No one advocates that. It is mine and most citizens’ expectation that such behavior will be prosecuted.
“Until you’re willing to admit that, you may as well walk down to the local synagogue and yell, ‘Achtung, Juden!’”
Kind of like your ideological compatriots with their anti-Israel rhetoric.
I am going to guess that this whole thing in Arizona has stirred crap up. This took place in California, last I heard that was still the United States. You can wear your American Flag on any day of the week. So have a drink and stop getting your undies in a bunch over nothing.
Many ethnic groups celebrate the country that the descended from. On St. Patricks Day you will see the colors of Ireland but you will also see the American Flag. The Colubus Day Parade bears the U.S. flag as well as the Italian Colors. The same goes for the west indian parades around the country. The puerto Rican day Parades. Greek Independence day Parade, the Chinese New Year Parade, and many more. These students so proud of there Mexican heritage have probably never been to Mexico even though its close and are an ethnic group of Americans now. The American Flag should be shown and respected regardless of what ethnic heritage is being celebrated on American soil. The American Flag should have been next to the Mexican flag by the mexican AMERICAN students. It does not matter why the american flag students wore the flag. the fact is that they can wear it. Also I’m sure that noone would wear an American Flag on Independence day of Mexico in Mexico. In America the American flag should not be taken down.
WOW…Such a discussion for what seems to me to be a stupid idea in the first place. That being said I do happen to agree with what someone wrote on here…
Bubblehead wrote: anyone can come here legally and succeed or fail on their own merits; all we ask is that they ASSIMILATE! That means learn the language, respect the flag, obey our laws, accept our culture and leave your own country behind; or don’t come!
Honestly that should be a global law, I wouldn’t move to mexico, India, Germany, France, Spain, etc. and expect the people to speak to me in english, burn their flag, break their laws, (by the way didn’t one of our citizens get caned in Singapore for doing something while visiting the country that would be a summary offence in the states), maybe go all religious right when I got to the Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) celebration in Mexico. So is it wrong of me to expect at least that from the people we so grasciously allow to come to our country. If we don’t watch it, the great experiment, the united states will just turn in to Europe. Very many, very small countries, full of people who speak different languages, and have as much of a history fighting with one another as they do of helping eachother. (no offence to anyone from europe, just making a point)
ok so they probably dont show their patriotism any other day – which make them not very bright kids – but really – talk about over reaction. Other than an embarrassment to their parents this should not be an issue. Anyone should be able to wear the colors of this country at anytime. You can even be an American citizen wearing red, white, and blue and celebrate Cinco de Mayo
#226 AUSTIN C(commie) And You remind me of a cheap hit and run troll. BTW libtard:calling outraged patriots “Hitler”,”racist”,”fascist” and other 6o’s smears just doesn’t cut it any more.Go back to leftard agitprop school and learn some new insults.
This breaks my heart.
Here is the one thing that is being ignored and the one thing that truly disturbs me about this story. Were not the kids celebrating Cinco de Mayo American kids as well? If so, why did they not recognize the fact that the red, white, and blue is their flag as well? Why did the sight of that flag offend them. Many great Americans of Hispanic descent have fought, bled, and died for the red, white, and blue. The question should not be “why did those white boys wear American Flag shirts?” but “why were those American students of Hispanic descent offended. For those Hispanic students to believe that the American flag is only for white boys and girls, shows they have a lot of racial ignorance insilled inside them.
Dear Mr. Obama:
I’m planning to move my family and extended family into Mexico for my health, and I would like to ask you to assist me.
We’re planning to simply walk across the border from the U.S. into Mexico, and we’ll need your help to make a few arrangements.
We plan to skip all the legal stuff like visas, passports, immigration quotas and laws.
I’m sure they handle those things the same way you do here. So, would you mind telling your buddy, President Calderon, that I’m on my way over?
Please let him know that I will be expecting the following:
1. Free medical care for my entire family.
2. English-speaking government bureaucrats for all services I might need, whether I use them or not.
3. Please print all Mexican Government forms in English.
4. I want my grandkids to be taught Spanish by English- speaking (bi-lingual) teachers.
5. Tell their schools they need to include classes on American culture and history.
6. I want my grandkids to see the American flag on one of the flag poles at their school.
7. Please plan to feed my grandkids at school for both breakfast and lunch.
8. I will need a local Mexican driver’s license so I can get easy access to government services.
9. I do plan to get a car and drive in Mexico, but I don’t plan to purchase car insurance, and I probably won’t make any special effort to learn local traffic laws.
10. In case one of the Mexican police officers does not get the memo from their president to leave me alone, please be sure that every patrol car has at least one English-speaking officer.
11. I plan to fly the U.S. flag from my housetop, put U.S. flag decals on my car, and have a gigantic celebration on July 4th. I do not want any complaints or negative comments from the locals.
12. I would also like to have a nice job without paying any taxes, or have any labor or tax laws enforced on any business I may start.
13. Please have the president tell all the Mexican people to be extremely nice and never say critical things about me or my family, or about the strain we might place on their economy.
14. I want to receive free food stamps.
15. Naturally, I’ll expect free rent subsidies.
16. I’ll need income tax credits so that although I don’t pay Mexican taxes, I’ll receive money from the government.
17. Please arrange it so that the Mexican Government pays $4,500.00 to help me buy a new car.
18. Oh yes, I almost forgot, please enroll me free into the Mexican Social Security program so that I’ll get a monthly income in retirement.
I know this is an easy request because you already do all these things for all his people who walk over to the U.S. from Mexico . I am sure that President Calderon won’t mind returning the favor if you ask him nicely.
Thank you so much for your kind help.
You’re the man!!!
Chris,
well said. I am a taxpayer that plays by the rules and pays into the system. I am personally sick of any illegal immigrant in this country living off of my tax dollars. In my opinion any illegal in this country should have no rights at all. The legal system should not protect them because they are …. well ILLEGAL! I am certain that if our government would stop enabling and encouraging (through law and $$$)illegals in this country we could stifle some of these types of things. Anybody wishing to come here should be forced to do it the legal way, else suffer the consequences of no rights/services at all.
Will everybody hold on. One I think its really stupid that these were sent home because they were wearing the America Flag. And mexican celebration is not an america thing and in now way is direspectful to the mexican culture!Let get this straight these kids were kicked out of school on American soul for another foriegn country’s celebration. The kids should sue in no way is the american flag offensive. Its a flag! And am pretty sure in other countries they would not have been kicked out of class.
#270 Justin, as a Cuban American ,grateful to have been allowed in the USA, and a PROUD citizen of this nation I say that you are 100% right!
If these kids were in Ireland would they demand that the Irish flag be taken down on May 5th? How about Japan? China? Iraq?
Nobody would allow this kind of disrespect.
If they want to show their Mexican flag on Cinco De Mayo, so what? I guess that is the problem. Just having their flag didn’t incite anyone, so they had to pretend to be traumatized by the sight of the American flag. Remember, they did not walk out of the school and demonstrate about it until THE NEXT DAY when they found out that the entire nation was ticked off at the actions of the principal. Did they demand that all American flags be removed to prevent disrespect? Did they demand that the Pledge of Allegiance be canceled on THEIR day?
This entire school district needs to be closed down. The American taxpayers cannot fund a public school that does not have adult supervision.
What this really demonstrates is the failure of multiculturalism. The hispanic population is becoming large enough that we are beginning to see real and dangerous rifts in cultural values. The hispanic student seem to relate more to Mexican Culture than American culture and values as evidence by the girls comment. This is no a unique problem. Look at French Canadians, Lebanon Croatia, Serbia and so forth. This is one of the best arguments for curtail immigration and illegal immigration. I never considered myself euro centric, my wife of 25 years is a hispanic immigrant. Sadly I must reconsider the world.
I don’t care who had what motives. It is an American School…in America. This is America and we can wear our flag where and when we want to. perhaps if the hispanic students are so offended by our flag, they should go to a country where they don’t have to see it as much? Could you imagine going to a Mexican school on the 4th of July and asking them not to wear their flag??
This is AMERICA and if I want to wear an AMERICAN flag shirt on any day of the year, even if it is another country’s holiday, we shouldn’t even be honoring that holiday anyways, all Cinco de Mayo is good for is getting drunk thats it, I’m gonna wear it. If the mexicans or whoever else doesn’t like it they can leave and go back to there own country.
Americans just dont respect the flag as we used to. According to Federal Flag Code CRS 6-8-d: The flag should never be used as apparel.
I’ve been reading a lot of comments here and finding some good points on both sides. I have just one comment I’d like to make. I can’t help but think of the statments being made about the “patriotism” of the boys for wearing the American flag. I’m old enough to remember when wearing flags as apparal started to become popular with the youth back in the 60s. The right-wingers who are crying about patriotic youths today certainly weren’t citing patriotism back then. Quite the opposite.
Shame on all of you that are calling the children by insulting names and saying how bad they were.
There is nothing wrong, whatsoever, with wearing an American flag, regardless of date. Since when did we get so petty that we decided when and where we can display our Patriotism?
I read a comment from someone that said if they wore a British T-shirt on St. Patrick’s Day that they would get their a** beat…That’s no where near the same thing. You are referencing two countries that traditionally HATE one another. Now, if it were St. Patrick’s day IN BRITAIN then why would it be a bad thing to wear their patriotic colors?
Regardless of our ethnicity/nationality, we are Americans FIRST, and everything else second. There is no questioning this because that’s the truth. You can’t punish someone for supporting their own country, regardless of whose culture we are celebrating that day. The disrespect would be if you are in Mexico itself and wear some other colors, but they weren’t. They were in an American school.
People need to stop being such pu**ies about hurting people’s feelings, it’s getting ridiculous.
It’s disrespectful to “wear” the American flag. It belongs on flag poles or as a symbol on patches on uniforms (e.g. Boy scouts, ROTC, Fire, police, armed forces etc).
It DOES NOT belong on underwear or shirts.
These 5 kids clearly had an agenda. Unequivocally. Were they trying to stir-up some controversy and did it have anything to do with race? Undeniably! Did the school make the correct decision to send them home or make them take it off? Yes, like it or not. The school admin did the right thing. The children may not have been trying to incite violence, but they very well could have.
If we adults have a problem with other countries nationals celebrating their heritage here then lets get off our duffs and do something about it instead of letting the children do it.
There should be a policy at school that at no time are kids allowed to “wear” the flag on any day unless it is a uniform patch. Children should learn to respect our flag and using it for a fashion statement is not respecting it.
… That would be like me going to Mexico (or Britain, or Germany, or any other country) on July 4th and saying “OMG, YOU CAN’T WEAR A MEXICAN/BRITISH/GERMAN SHIRT TODAY, ITS DISRESPECTFUL!!”
I agree with the last statement. Aren’t these kids supposed to be “Mexican AMERICAN?”
If it’s such a huge deal, then maybe they should go BACK to Mexico if it’s so great. Or keep their mouths shut.
NO ONE should have the right to tell anybody that they can’t wear an American shirt… in AMERICA.
To be honest, I’m rather insulted by this entire situation.
God Bless America, land of the brave!! While we enjoy freedom of thought & speech here, I believe it to be rude & unAmerican to fly any other flag beside our own! I am proud of my heritage, however, I remain an American first and foremost. I do not need to wear a scarlet letter to be reminded of the “motherlands” I descended from, nor carry their flag. Our founding fathers also, were from other lands. What gives here. If you aren’t proud to be here, enjoying all that America affords you, and you can’t assume the same loyalties here, then you should return from whence you came!!!!! You do not belong here. Even if you still love your home country (be it elsewhere), it should not stop you from having decency and respect for this land and STOP insulting us!!!!! If you do not feel the same gratitude here you DO NOT BELONG HERE! You have just marked yourself an unwelcome guest in OUR HOUSE!! America IS NOT just a place, it is a way of LIFE, it is a dream waiting to be realized, the blood shed to remain free. Some things can’t be legislated, it is a matter of the heart and THAT is what will keep us free!!!!!
this is an american school on american soil payed with american tax dollars,no big deal fire all the staff in that school they are anti-american,and if they cant be fired start a private school that honors the american flag, problem solved.
It doesn’t matter which day they wear their shirts. It doesn’t matter if they are buttwipes/jerks or whatever. They are an American, this is America, and by God you respect the country in which you live and respect the flag in which many have died for protecting your right and freedom of speech. If you want to celebrate your countries heritage, then fine, you do it on your time, your dime, your home, or in the country in which you are celebrating. School is NOT the place to celebrate it. History is one thing, learning about it, fine, but celebrating it, nope. You want to wear an Italian shirt, sure go ahead, but the school should not celebrate Carnivale or St. Anthony, or May Day or The Sagra di Sant Efisio or make anyone else respect it. Not in America. I can do that in my house but I don’t expect the neighborhood, school or churches to do so. The schools wont even celebrate much less say “Christmas”. They call it “winter break”. They should not be celebrating cinco de mayo at school either.
Point being, they are in America, celebrate it on your time but don’t expect the rest of the country to do it.
I’m not a racist against any nationality, color, religious or anything else you can think of. I AM, however, PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN.
Agreed that not all Hispanics are illegal or idiots and neither are the Americans, and agreed that not all Hispanics expect you to celebrate their holiday, but don’t force an American to not show his or her pride/heritage on any day they want in thier OWN country!!!
Ahahahahahaha. Oh, you. Why did the sight of that flag offend them
