Democratic National Convention Blues

President Empty Chair is trying to solve the problem of empty seats when he delivers his big speech:

College students from across North Carolina will arrive in Charlotte by the busload. Same with members of predominantly black churches in neighboring South Carolina.

Their goal: help fill a 74,000-seat outdoor stadium to capacity when President Obama accepts the Democratic nomination Thursday night.

Apropos, yes?

Let’s set the Wayback Machine for August, 2008, when Senator Rock Star had no problem at all filling 84,000 seats in Denver. And while you might accuse me of rubbing it in to even mention that Denver is a smaller and more remote city than Charlotte, well…

…that’s why you come here, yes?

Maybe they should try just giving away free tickets in bars or something. Oh, wait — that’s so been done already.

UPDATE: Or just move the whole shebang to a more “intimate venue,” with about one-quarter as many seats to fill.
